How many sprouts in a portion.

I think six minimum. Google thinks eight. Realistically I think I go for ten or even a dozen.
Obviously, other factors like glazed in balsamic, cooked with pine nuts or butter is a factor.
But for the sake of experiment, let's say these are plain, salted with gravy available. In addition to your full Christmas dinner.

How many sprouts is acceptable?
Yanbu-not more than eight!
Yabu- eight is not enough!
(Yes, I realise the answer is none if you are a sprout Grinch!)

It depends on the size. Six large fresh ones might be enough. Frozen or preprepared ones tend to be on the small side so you would need eight,

comeundone · 21/12/2021 20:41

3-4 is a normal portion alongside other vegetables here. 8 seems a little outlandish. We have them year round though so not a special Christmas thing.

NotSoLittle · 21/12/2021 20:41

zero...

Goldilocks99 · 21/12/2021 20:42

Looks like six is the modal.

I may do mine in marmite this year. Something to get sprouts into the food hell of fame.

It depends on the size butbI would say 5 to 6 medium ones.

DaydreamerBetty · 21/12/2021 20:44

I would say 4 along with other veggies

samsalmon · 21/12/2021 20:44

@Chasingsquirrels

I love sprouts, just had jacket potato, fish fingers and sprouts for tea - I did myself 8 then another 6, then another 2 for good measure!
Legend.
VanillaAndOrange · 21/12/2021 20:45

Anything from 6 to infinity. The limit is how many I can be arsed to prepare, not how many I want to eat.

ShinyMe · 21/12/2021 20:45

I had lunch in the college canteen the other day, served by a level 1 student. He added TWO sprouts in my carton thing. I looked a bit 'hmm' at him and asked if I could have a bit more, and he put in two huge scoops, filling the carton so much that it wouldn't shut. I think there were at least 30. I ate the lot and could have eaten more.

This is so true, preparing them is a faff.
EatYourVegetables · 21/12/2021 21:15

I hate sprouts and have come here to make the mandatory “zero” joke, which I see has already been made.

But this thread revealed a new level of awful for me… LEFTOVER sprouts?? The only flavour worse than the sprout - COLD, old sprout Envy

WildStallyn · 21/12/2021 21:15

Before I read the post I was going to say 8. That's undoubtedly the right number.

roastedsaltedpeanut · 21/12/2021 21:24

Looooove sprouts!! I have been known to have more than twenty in one sitting. Then no one would sit next to me for the rest of the evening…
I get the impression one out of three people love sprouts while the rest think they are made by the devil.
So if you have ten people, it would mean 3.33 people would have 8/10 sprouts each. Another 3.33 people will take 3 each and eat one. One person will take one for decorative purpose. The remainder will announce a sprout related fart joke while passing the plate along.

So for ten people I would cook max 40.

AngelonTopoftheTree · 21/12/2021 21:25

A bare one, just for colour as my mother would say.
Sprouts Xmas Envy

NeverDropYourMooncup · 21/12/2021 21:27

A handful, like most vegetables except roasties and roast parsnips .

JackieCollinshasnoauthority · 21/12/2021 21:28

I love sprouts and think 7 is a standard portion. I will probably eat a dozen over the course of Christmas day.

gogohm · 21/12/2021 21:29

Depends on size, were tiny at lidl

ImmutableSexQueen · 21/12/2021 21:31

Three, to avoid side effects. Five to take a risk at Christmas.

DrCoconut · 21/12/2021 21:31

About 12 decent size ones for me!

DukkaTheHallsWithBoughsOfHolly · 21/12/2021 21:31

None. Luckily the DC agree. DH is on his own.

Aprilx · 21/12/2021 21:32

I read your thread title without the rest of the post and immediately thought eight. 🙂

DSGR · 21/12/2021 21:32

10-12

TheRooom · 21/12/2021 21:33

15-20

Genius! Take the most 'marmite' of vegetables, and coat it in actual marmite. This should statistically ensure only a quarter of the diners will want them so it's really not worth bothering.Grin

What’s your best sprout recipe? Must be veggie
