I'm in my 40's and it has always confused me! Failing as an adult!! Any explanation gratefully received!

Saw this thread while googling the difference between gammon and ham.

I get a cooked ham from the butcher which tastes so different from gammon which is more salty and has a different texture. The gammon is almost bacon like.

Any ideas?

Anyone want to add how they cook their gammon (resulting in a ham!)?
Nothing too complicated.
Some recipes seem to suggest boiling first and then roasting.

Slow cooker in full fat cola that's it ,it's delicious 😋

@ISeeTheLight ham, bacon or gammon is pork which is salted, brined and often cured with molasses or spices and/or smoked while raw - then sometimes soaked before cooking.

Pork is just raw meat from the pig, uncured.

To cook a really flavoursome ham buy a whole or half ham on the bone and cook it yourself. Delia Smith and Clarissa Dickson Wright have good recipes for ham on the bone - much tastier than the reformed cuts off the bone you get in supermarkets. Can be ordered from top butchers online or a local proper butcher.
