Just me and DD after bills and rent. Is it possible?

@Comedycook
There should be reciprocity - to a certain extent. If you are well off and can easily afford it’s churlish not to respond in kind.

However the giver should equally be aware of the recipient’s situation. I’ve given people big gifts and knowing they’d feel they have to reciprocate told them it’s not necessary at all. I wouldn’t give to create a burden.

It costs nothing to be honest and your relative should understand. If not they’re unpleasant people and you might as well not get a gift from them and spend the £40 yourself.

It's absolutely doable.
However, definitely do an entitled to calculation and make sure you're not missing out on something you might be entitled to! Every little helps Smile

I wonder how different the replies would be if OP hadn't mentioned hair? Which she more than deserves as a single mother.

I wonder how different the relies would have been if op had mentioned that they're actually "living off" £1500 a month and £350 is their disposable income once all bills are paid.

Who said anything about hair?

There are two categories of expense. Essential and non-essential.
If you have covered the essentials you can talk about the non-essentials.

People are merely pointing out that ‘enough to live on’ in relation to non-essentials is disingenuous as it depends on lifestyle.

Others have also pointed out that OP needs to account for unexpected expenses.

It’s that simple, no need to go reading into things that nobody has said

£350 after all bills is plenty to live on, many of us survive on less and manage.

PurplePikachu · 21/12/2021 16:54

I consider us to be wealthy, and don’t spend close to £350 a month on clothes, beauty and treats. This is a really odd thread.

worriedatthemoment · 21/12/2021 17:42

We have that most months for 4 of us after bills and food

LeedleLee · 21/12/2021 17:56

If that is after EVERYTHING has been bought/paid for, that is plenty. The only issue may be if an appliance ect breaks in which case it might be a bit tight. But day to day living? Perfectly doable.

Beachbreak2411 · 21/12/2021 18:12

£350 no including bills or food?? Of course you can live off that!! It’s absurd to say otherwise!!

Yants · 21/12/2021 18:23

So £350 a month after rent, bills and food?

I'd say that's very, very achievable.
