Brass band playing outside the supermarket invoked a lump in my throat and feeling a bit emotional.

Why?

Anyone else?

Every time for me.

MikeWozniaksMohawk · 20/12/2021 22:56

Brass bands transport me to Christmases of my childhood, when the Salvation Army band would come and play around the local streets. They make me cry too at Christmas.

abouquetofsharpenedpencils · 20/12/2021 22:57

Yes, me too.
Sad
Always thought I was the only one!

KrispyKale · 20/12/2021 22:57

Always.

Rolypolybabies · 20/12/2021 22:57

Me too. Get right choked up and start giving out my cash. Not sure why. Think it reminds me of Rememberence day and returning soldiers from Afghanistan when I lived near a military base.

DramaAlpaca · 20/12/2021 22:58

Yes, me too.

Workinghardeveryday · 20/12/2021 22:58

Agree, reminds me of childhood at Christmas and them coming around the streets

mrselizabethdarcy · 20/12/2021 22:58

Same. Every time I hear one.

Stigsmother · 20/12/2021 22:58

Me too, I think we're all on the very edge....not surprising really given the last couple of years Xmas Sad

VanGoghsDog · 20/12/2021 22:59

Yep. Also Little Donkey.

RobertSmithsLipstick · 20/12/2021 22:59

You're an empath.
Grin
Seriously, this time of year is murder for me.
Little children singing carols, brass bands.
You name it, I cry about it.

GroggyLegs · 20/12/2021 23:00

Brass bands are always a killer, salvation army even more so. I got a lump in my throat watching a brass band play on a beautiful summers day this year 😂 so it's not just Christmas for me.

I think the horrible last 2 years has a lot to do with it too. Things mean more, especially if they're joyful.

LilacSloth · 20/12/2021 23:00

Me too Xmas Smile

HairyPotter · 20/12/2021 23:00

Me too! I can feel the lump raising just thinking about it now.

See also orchestras.

GunsNShips · 20/12/2021 23:01

You’re not alone. I play in a brass band and in previous years a good collection would be £100 per hour. The other week it was £160!! I think it’s nostalgia and especially with Christmas being so fucked up people have really enjoyed having it back

Me too. I remember being small enough to have to reach up to put a few pennies in the tin, and being asked to choose the next carol. Always ‘Once in Royal David’s City’.
LlamaParma · 20/12/2021 23:01

Brass bands invoke something in me too.

Except when DD plays her French Horn (she’s just started lessons). That brings tears of a different kind Grin

RobertSmithsLipstick · 20/12/2021 23:01

I dont6even like brass bands or children. (Donkeys are nice, though)

onepieceoflollipop · 20/12/2021 23:01

@VanGoghsDog - not to mention Away in a Manger

OP - I didn’t realise how much I missed Christmas music last year.
My daughter is in a choir and this year we have been to some services and I well up sometimes.
It’s one of the ‘lesser’ losses from the pandemic

LittleRoundRobin · 20/12/2021 23:02

Lovely isn't it @brassmonkeybrassband Smile

We had one playing when walking through town this afternoon. While Shepherds Watch Their Flocks, Silent Night, Once In Royal David's City, Away In A Manger, The First Noel... Beautiful. Smile

PurpleFlower1983 · 20/12/2021 23:02

Every time.

SpookyScarySkeletons · 20/12/2021 23:03

You didn't scream in the Sistine Chapel did you?

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 20/12/2021 23:03

Always chokes me up!

In particular, though, it reminds me of the Salvation Army playing at Great Ormond Street hospital when my Dd was in over her first Christmas, on Christmas Day.

Campfirewood · 20/12/2021 23:04

I thought this was just me! Walked past a brass band at the weekend and got a lump in my throat.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 20/12/2021 23:04

When ever someone mentions that thread it reminds me of my old next door neighbour. She’d totally do that! She is actually a lovely woman though.
