to be a right tight arse?

I haunt charity shops. And in one of the shops closest to me, I found this for the princely sum of £1. WITH THE TAGS STILL ON FROM THE COMPANY!!!! In size 0-6 months.

And one of my friends has just had a baby.
And it is just before Christmas, I could never have afforded something that cool and original and funky, and he loves cool and original and funky ...

So I removed the charity shop tag, left the company tag still on, wrapped it up and gave it as a present

Have I been awful?

Lauriefairycake · 19/12/2007 23:09

Of course not, what a fab prezzie, very of the bargain hunting gene

Twinklemegan · 19/12/2007 23:13

In my book, if it's something the recipient will really like, then you're not tight-arsed you're jammy!

coldtits · 19/12/2007 23:14

I also picked up some brown suede Mini Boden skate shoes for me. (small feet!) £4.

I am a fairly jammy sod in charity shops.

Smug · 19/12/2007 23:16

You havent been awful, but that playsuit is!

coldtits · 19/12/2007 23:18

He will like it though. I know he will - it's totally his taste.

OP posts:
Lauriefairycake · 19/12/2007 23:23

his taste - the baby has taste ???

coldtits · 19/12/2007 23:24

No, my friend's taste - my friend is a he! His girlfriend has just given birth - I don't know her very well, so it's more natural for me to think of the baby as 'his' baby,.

OP posts:
expatinscotland · 19/12/2007 23:25

that is FAB!

Lauriefairycake · 19/12/2007 23:25

aaahhh...........I had visions of a very picky John-Paul Gaultier alike baby

FlamesparodyOfAChristmasName · 19/12/2007 23:26

Lol - the concept is fine - it wouldn't bother me even if it had the charity tag on

The playsuit would though

(assuming the "he" is your mate and not the baby...DH tells me that even at 22 months we don't have to listen to DS's taste - which means he has vetoed DD's pink flowery pushchair for him )

NappiesGaloriouslyFestive · 19/12/2007 23:34

isnt it 'tightarsed'?

genuine quaestion.

thought this was a porn thread

(not quite so genuine)

coldtits · 19/12/2007 23:38

Well, yes you can be tightarsed. And that would means people refer to you as "A Tightarse"

OP posts:
FlamesparodyOfAChristmasName · 19/12/2007 23:42

lol @ "not quite so genuine"

I guess being tightarsed is the verb, but a tight arse is the noun? Should we be in the pedants bit now?

coldtits · 19/12/2007 23:43

I am not allowed to join the pedants, I left school at 16 and just don't know the rules! Education is a long way past me

OP posts:
FlamesparodyOfAChristmasName · 19/12/2007 23:48

There are rules I thought that they just made it up as they went along but sounded convincing

soopermum1 · 20/12/2007 07:43

great find! i suspect your male friend will love it but his partner may not.

no added sugar is a very funky label though

BandofReindeerwaitingontheroof · 20/12/2007 07:49

Is that where you found the pressies you gave my girls

Just kidding

You are so bloody jammy in the charity shops I should come with you some time then we can fight over the good stuff.

NappiesGaloriouslyFestive · 20/12/2007 09:11

oh, i left at 15 (july birthday) and was 'educated' (i use the term loosely) in 1980's hackney. as such words like verb, adjective, and the evr so mysterious possesive pro something or other twice removed are complete gobbledigook to me. i would never dare venture into pedants corner!
thankfully i was miserable and buried my head in books for escapism (only 4 channels back then). otherwise i wouldnt know how to string a sentence together.

my question was not rhetorical. and i only felt comfortable to show my ignorance in such lovely company as this [fcrawl] (plus, id had a drink)

the playsuit find was brilliant btw, and i would totally do that (wrap it up and give it). in fact, i bought a little tea set just day before yesterday for the princely sum of 1.99 so i could use the basket for a wee hamper i made for my grandad for crimbo. the baskets on sale at the farm shop where i got the contents were up for 10.99 . i got an book, rrp 7.99, for another 1.99 at the same time. i feckin love charity shops. good ones anyway. (some are rubbish, lets face it)

this is, of course, what cod would call seagulling on my part, no?

coldtits · 20/12/2007 09:39

PMSL I know it wasn't rhetorical but I genuinely don't know the answer!

Bandof nooooo I know your taste better than that.

The mum will probably like it too. They are a young and funky clubby couple, so unless she's gone completely baby brained, (which I did) she'll probably like it.

And if not they can Ebay it for more than I paid!

This has reminded me that we had something sent from a catalogue that was wrong...a cute little wooden tricycle. I rang them to collect it and a year later it was still in our garage, gathering dust. Up comes my new born nieces first birthday and we gave it to her.
It's her favourite toy now! And boy, do I feel guilty!

HairyIrene · 20/12/2007 09:46

i think its win win all round coldtits
dont see any problem
wish i had your charity shop snuffling gene too...

AnguaVonUberwald · 20/12/2007 09:52

I just love the fact that it has Ironing instructions on the website, do people actually iron baby stuff?

NappiesGaloriouslyFestive · 20/12/2007 09:58

oh yes. i iron all of it. except the angora and cashmere and silks only on low of course.

WanderingHolly · 20/12/2007 10:00

Agree with HairyIrene.

Not tightarsed.

BTW I left school at 15 and am a pedant.
Flame - you are confusing grammar with Mornington Crescent.

HairyIrene · 20/12/2007 10:17

lol mornington crescent WH!

left school at 16 and fess up as a wannbe pedant...
the rules when explained to me just result in automatic mind wandering .. english class daydreams ...

so i just tut at what i want too, privately a'course like, believe airly, nay, hopefully in language evolving ... and taking me with it!
