AIBU to get angry with someone on the checkout and end up in tears. I went with dd who is ten month to get 3 items. I use a trolley as i have a back problem and cannot carry her for very long. I didnt realize i put my items on a checkout that was hand basket only. The lady said she woud not serve me as would 'get it in the neck from her manager' I asked her to get her manager but she wouldnt. I was not rude to her, just stated i thought it was ridiculous (wasnt like i had my weekly shop) She was very rude, I ended up moving and blubbering sorry for long rant....

That is awful. I hope you got her name to use in your letter of complaint.

mustsleep · 20/12/2007 09:40

if you know the time that you went at the day and include a description of the little b*tch i don't think you'll need her name cos they keep a record who's ben on which till when

also the till number would be good, i'd go back into the store to the customer service desk and ask to speak to someone there and say that you've been very very upset over the whole thing

nametaken · 20/12/2007 10:30

This really is a horrible thing to do. When I worked in a supermarket on the hand basket only till I always served the little old ladies who couldn't carry a basket so just put a couple of items in the trolley. It was common practice. As long as it's only a BASKET FULL what difference does it make

runnyhabbit · 20/12/2007 10:34

Have only skimmed the thread, but YA definatley NBU.

Make sure you send a letter to the Head Office, as well as the store.

Bloody jobsworth

discoverlife · 20/12/2007 10:40

The fact that she refused to call for the manager shows that she knew she was in the wrong. I would go back and demand to see the manager now.

micci25 · 20/12/2007 10:51

i dont think you were being unreasonable but why wont you use your buggy? thats what i always do! so what if it looks you might be stealing shops arent allowed to stop intill its clear you have no intention to pay for the goods! i.e. you walk past the tills and attempt to exit the store!

i use the re usable bags and hang them on my buggy and i have never had any problems! i have even taken my goods outside of the shop with out paying this way! i just let the security guard know that i had picked up more than i intended to and needed to go outside to the cash point and although he watched me to ensure i didnt leave the car park he had no problem with this!

next time use your buggy instead of a trolly if it is easier for you but i do think that you should complain but id go into the shop and complain directly to the manager first

Shops are silly - they have those checkouts as they're quicker for people. Yet how many times have you been stuck behind someone who has loaded up a basket so much they can barely carry it and then their friend has some in their arms as well. Ends up being 1/2 a trolley's worth. Would be much better if they said say 10 items or under. You were not being unreasonable.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 20/12/2007 21:08

A big thanks to all of you. Was hoping no one would think I was over reacting. I sent the letter this morning, but dh insisted in taking it himself. Now not so sure it will end up where it should. Will wait till after holidays if I dont get a reply I will definately right another.
Sorry about no title to thread, new here so wasn't sure. Will make sure next time.

Send it - you are absolutely not being unreasonable. She was being thick, rude and nasty for the sake of it.

That's why several other supermarkets specify the number of items for the fast till - NOT the method used to bring them to said till, be it a basket, a trolley, your arms or wheelbarrow if you feel so inclined.

I've used a trolley before for just a few items when I had SPD during & after I was pregnant. I needed the bloody trolley to lean on to help me get round !

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 21/12/2007 17:42

bless you catsmother that must have been painful for you.
Well I got a reply to the letter today.Saying they called but noone answered, and could I please phone back to arrange a time to go in and speak to someone. Not sure what the purpose of going in to speak is any ideas?

Anyway I have cheered up today because I have just got a bfp

Congratulations!

And hopefully it sounds like they are taking the complaint seriously.

laura032004 · 22/12/2007 14:43

Congratulations!

What a lovely early Christmas present

candypandy · 22/12/2007 19:32

quick bit of advice.. write down what happened while it's fresh in your mind still
then when you go in to talk to them you won't get into a flap or be embarrassed or repeating yourself or forgetting bits
-- and when you have a notebook they listen more (don't know why but they do!)

sounds like they are willing to listen. the hardest part will be if they ask you to identify the checkout girl.. i would find that embarrassing and difficult as you don't want to ruin anybody's Christmas ..but maybe you are made of stronger stuff!

mylovelymonster · 22/12/2007 19:54

I can't imagine anyone thinking Ywbu. What the hell do these people think they're there for apart from to serve the customers. As if you haven't got enough to deal with!! Totally reasonable that you were upset also, at such a ridiculous attitude. Hope you're feeling much calmer and HUGE CONGRATS at lovely lovely news. Hope it goes beautifully for you, and look after yourself - send dh shopping in future & avoid all morons xx

Staceym11PipersPiping · 22/12/2007 20:05

YADefinatelyNU!

cant believe this, i often use a trolley as cant hold ds, dds hand and carry a basket, but only use basket only if i have under 10 items
