Should we go to the panto?

Me and my DS7 are due to go to the panto today. Tickets have been booked a long time and were quite expensive. The town I live in has a fairly high amount of Omicron cases. We are due to go to my parents (both in their 70s) for Christmas and they've hinted that from tomorrow (Monday) onwards that they'd prefer it if we didn't really mix with others leading up to us staying there.

The panto is sold out, so we're looking at a large amount of people being there. My DS is looking forward to it.

Would I be unreasonable to go, or should we give it a miss due to Christmas? Obviously my parents are very important to me. I just don't know what to do.

We went last night. It was great fun and so nice to get out, especially for DD who's had a difficult time recently.
As a PP said, the children are in school all week - my two in a mahoosive comp - surrounded by hundreds of others so it's not so different.

Like another PP we noticed that there were a few empty seats, even though it had been a virtual sell out. I think a few had decided to stay away.

Oh no you shouldn't....................

WotgunShedding · 19/12/2021 12:34

I wouldn’t but only because we’re going to have a massive family Christmas with over 25 people on Christmas Day and that’s my priority this year. If we were only having a small Christmas at home, I’d go

junglejane66 · 19/12/2021 12:34

And just watch out who's behind you

Notdoingthis · 19/12/2021 12:38

Why do people say 'there will be other pantos'? Children are missing 2 years of Christmas fun. Childhood is short. Pantos are magical from ages about 3-10 and you may not have the money to take them every year.

hedwigismyowl · 19/12/2021 12:38

I'd go to it. Wear a mark and wash your hands. Do lft before seeing parents. Life's too short to worry

It’s really about personal situations at this stage. For us as a small family, Panto and Christmas movie trips are hugely important and the best part of Christmas, we don’t do much visiting and see GP weekly anyway. So our choice was Panto and LFT before visiting with the decision not to moan if we end up positive. Only you know what’s more important to you. I think last year it was assumed ‘everyone’ had this gorgeous family multi generational Christmas that had to be protected at all costs but that’s not the case for everyone

I don't think it's OK to go to your parents after the panto.

You could go to the panto and postpone the visit to your parents. I know it won't be christmas but at least you won't kill them! Or pop round before you go to the panto.

R3ALLY · 19/12/2021 12:44

Just to clarify , we see GPS almost weekly and they have other relatives at home so for us it’s not a huge deal if we miss a Christmas visit. It’s all about the personal situation this year
