Should we go to the panto?

Me and my DS7 are due to go to the panto today. Tickets have been booked a long time and were quite expensive. The town I live in has a fairly high amount of Omicron cases. We are due to go to my parents (both in their 70s) for Christmas and they've hinted that from tomorrow (Monday) onwards that they'd prefer it if we didn't really mix with others leading up to us staying there.

The panto is sold out, so we're looking at a large amount of people being there. My DS is looking forward to it.

Would I be unreasonable to go, or should we give it a miss due to Christmas? Obviously my parents are very important to me. I just don't know what to do.

My view - “oh no you shouldn’t”.

4yroldhelp · 19/12/2021 10:12

OP I went to a sold out panto this week and the two rows in front of me were empty, I'm assuming people had made a decision not to go. So we weren't actually sat near anyone and everyone was wearing their masks. You may be ok and find it's not as busy as expected, I would go ( as long as you are wearing a mask)

BirdyBirdyTweetTweet · 19/12/2021 10:13

Why can't he go to his dads ? (If positive / waiting on PCR )

curtainsclosed9 · 19/12/2021 10:21

@BirdyBirdyTweetTweet His Dad won't have him even if he's sneezed once!

We did. Loved it and still don't have Covid! Wear your mask & sanitise your hands. Partly, I feel the need to show solidarity to the performers and venues. They've lost one season and I don't want another Christmas where people lose their income and can't provide for their families.

Go.

Just don't moan when the schools close.

This belongs in an archive of ‘ridiculous comments made during the coronavirus pandemic’ that I hope one day we will look back and laugh at Xmas Wink

We're going to the panto today. Am so glad we're managing to get there before it gets shut down. I am taking my children to absolutely everything I can before they are robbed of more of their youth.

Happy Christmas Wood!

If you were my young family, I would say go and then with clear lfts, we’ll have a big celebration at New Year instead.
Panto at that age is magic, I’d hate them to miss out.

Chloemol · 19/12/2021 11:16

I wouldn’t go. I am following Chris Whitty advice and limiting social interaction and being careful what I choose to do

There’s will be other pantos

As are we. Prioritising what’s important, which is different for everyone.

You're taking your children to absolutely everything , along with many others in their class no doubt, and then after Christmas all 30 children head back into the classroom to send 5 hours without masks on in one room with continuous contact with their teacher. This will raise the chances of the teacher getting and having to go home and self isolate.
Woodpigeonsnest · 19/12/2021 11:50

I’m a teacher and the idea of demanding the children I teach stay inside and don’t see families or friends or enjoy events like the pantomime is quite horrible really.

musicalfrog · 19/12/2021 11:54

"There’s will be other pantos"

Except if you abandon them again - now - you can't really bank on that I'm afraid!

curtainsclosed9 · 19/12/2021 11:56

I have nothing else whatsoever planned for DS over the school holidays so I'd feel pretty mean cancelling the panto today. I'm just conflicted due to seeing my parents on Christmas Day Sad

GiantHaystacks2021 · 19/12/2021 11:56

I wouldn't.
There's bound to be people there who have covid.

MajorCarolDanvers · 19/12/2021 11:57

I went to the panto a few days ago.

I'm going to the cinema today.

I'm treble jagged and so are my parents.

Agree.

I'm not demanding anything.

Youaremypenguin · 19/12/2021 12:03

Not if you don't want to get covid! All those people singing, shouting in an unventilated cramped space for hours. Its a high risk event.

Woodpigeonsnest · 19/12/2021 12:06

IAmMeThisIsI · 19/12/2021 12:07

My mother took my siblings kids yesterday. It was fine. Just practice everything you need to and go for the children. They need something after the year we've had.

ZenNudist · 19/12/2021 12:10

I'd go. We've been to the theatre twice and alton towers in the last 3 weeks and i went out for a Christmas meal with work. Dc are still in school til Tuesday. I'm going to LFT before dc go to see family on Tuesday eve.

ZenNudist · 19/12/2021 12:12

It's all very well saying there will be other pantos but ds1 is 11 and we are at upper age limit of him enjoying it so going this year. My other ds is 8 so he will enjoy it more now and so worth the ££££

I haven't asked anybody to. I don't expect anybody to. None of my posts say that.
