My washing machine is fucked. I’ve been aware it’s playing up for a few weeks making funny noises and a very loud spin.

I’ve checked the receipt - I bought it 22/12/2020 so it’s JUST within warranty but they’ll palm
Me off with a repair and fuck knows how long that’ll take.

I have SO MUCH laundry. It’s a joke but it is what it is.

I could just order a new one and it’ll be here Monday.

But it feels profligate.

DH doesn’t mind but slightly favours a new one as it’s quicker.

What would you do?

YABU - get the repair you lazy bint
YANBU - order the new shiny one

@NannaMcPhoo

And people wonder why we have so much landfill.
I don't wonder but if it is as much money and hassle to repair then why would you?

It shouldn't cost anything to repair, it's less than a year old.

OP, it's highly likely that you can get a free repair or replacement if you pursue this, so unless you're so well off that a couple of emails/phone calls aren't worth £400 to you, then you should.

Also, if you paid by credit card, which you really should for this sort of thing, and AO.com aren't co-operative, you have additional rights that make the credit card company liable, so they are required to refund or pay for a repair if AO.com don't or drag their feet.

Update!

I have a brand new washing machine arriving on Thursday. AO.com we’re absolutely superb, Beko not at all. AO intervened on a three way call and got them to approve a new machine instead of the palaver.

AND as the new machine is cheaper they’ve refunded me the difference.

Great news. Enjoy defeating the laundry mountain.

A friend kindly did a couple of loads for me yesterday which kept me in clean knickers but Thursday and Friday will be full on!

Especially as my youngest has chosen this week to try feeding himself 😬

Well that’s good customer service by AO. What brand you gone for?

Merryoldgoat · 21/12/2021 18:08

I’ve got a Hisense but frankly it was mostly to do with what was in stock.

I hope it’s got a reasonably fast program 🤞🏽

Buy a new one. Will cost you at least £100 for someone to come out and look. Get it from John Lewis. They have good guarantees

I had a Miele that was only four years old and over 1k, never had so many problems. They even extended the warranty to apologise but I gave up in the end. I got a new, cheaper brand as for every repair I was waiting at least two weeks.

We are very heavy users, it’s on three times a day. Get the new one and give scrap man your old one.
