The tree is 7 foot and really wide. Our living room can't take it. It's not even a nice shape. It's overpowering and feels like we have a forest in there. I'm actually quite embarrassed of it too, and I was looking forward to having people round for drinks, but not with this monstrosity.

We didn't really have a proper Xmas last year and I bought lots of nice decorations this year to make an effort even though I'm not really into Xmas. It looks bloody awful and even the kids don't seem that chuffed. We got a real one as they wanted one. First and last time.

Would I be unreasonable to take the decorations off the tree and saw it down a bit? Can I cut the back so it stands more against the wall, or move it to the conservatory. Or should I just suck it up??

So, would i be unreasonable to tackle the tree (advice on how to gladly received) or leave it?

I love big trees! We have an 8 footer… you’d hate it! I say embrace it, but then I would…

FudgeSundae · 18/12/2021 06:42

@Treez21

I don't think you can see the scale.
Ok this is AMAZING what’s the problem?
GoodnightGrandma · 18/12/2021 06:43

It looks lovely !
You can always Chuck it out the day after Boxing Day.

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 18/12/2021 06:44

Oh it’s gorgeous! I don’t know what you’re on about, truly...

I was expecting half the room to be taken up with it!

It’s beautiful. Please don’t go messing with it.

ApolloandDaphne · 18/12/2021 06:45

That tree is glorious. Please just leave it as it is.

Caramellatteplease · 18/12/2021 06:46

Wow that tree is perfect!!

Hollyhead · 18/12/2021 06:47

That’s amazing, how a tree should look. I always find the small 6 foot neat artificial affairs look a bit soulless. That has SOUL! Does it smell nice?

SilenceOfThePrams · 18/12/2021 06:47

That is magnificent! Exactly what a tree should be. Leave it alone and enjoy it! But make the tree chooser sit in the nearest seat to it.

AshLane · 18/12/2021 06:48

That looks fine, not as big as I imagined.

My friend bought on so much more bushy than that, for a living room that was only big enough for a two seater sofa and one chair.

Honestly, with one of us seated on the sofa and one on the chair, the tree was so wide we couldn't even see each other. Now that's big.

ScrumptiousBears · 18/12/2021 06:48

That is a fine sized tree.

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 18/12/2021 06:49

I think you might have hyper-focused on the tree’s imagined flaws as some kind of displacement, OP. That really is a lovely tree, doesn’t look too big for the space and it’s shape is perfectly fine. Why on earth would you be embarrassed to have people over?

ApplePippa · 18/12/2021 06:49

OP my DH has done similar - not as big as yours, but we have a very small house.

I've decided to embrace the ridiculousness of it.

It's wonky, bushier on on side than the other, and very wide. We brush past it constantly, and so have removed all ornaments from the lowest branches to stop them ending up on the floor - and we are all having a really good laugh over it.

We had people round last weekend. Initially I was worrying about feeling embarrassed, but instead we went down the route of making a thing of our "small, subtle, delicately shaped" tree to our friends. We all had a good chuckle!

Its all about attitude I think OP. Can you let go of your Christmas ideals and just have a bit of a laugh over it?

girlmom21 · 18/12/2021 06:50

Oh OP that's a fantastic tree!

icedcoffees · 18/12/2021 06:51

Sorry OP but there is absolutely nothing wrong with that tree at all - it looks fabulous!

Mahmoh · 18/12/2021 06:51

That tree is amazing, don't change a thing!!

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 18/12/2021 06:51

Ffs the autocorrect thinks it knows better than me and it never, ever does! *its

Seriously @Treez21 it’s time to embrace the tree.🎄

ApplePippa · 18/12/2021 06:51

Oooh you posted a picture while I was typing. That's a fantastic tree op!

pilates · 18/12/2021 06:52

Looks great to me

HollysBush · 18/12/2021 06:52

Aww, it’s beautiful.

Mummyoflittledragon · 18/12/2021 06:57

It looks fine. You can sit on the sofa, can’t you? I have persuaded dh to have the tree in the living room this year. Last year it wouldn’t fit apparently. Except it would have as we just used the artificial one, which is smaller than the real one we just bought and is in the living room….

Treez21 · 18/12/2021 07:06

Thank you for the kind comments. It is leaning and super bushy on one side and it's way too big for the room. I might do a bit of clipping but will try and embrace it! It sounds silly, but I was really, really upset about it. Perhaps just want everything to too perfect amongst all the crap going on.

The year my ex left we could not afford a tree but my friend’s dad had a greengrocers and said if I waited until Christmas Eve I could have one free as there was always one left. It too two people to carry it in . It would not have looked out of place in Trafalgar Square! It was too tall and I didn’t have a saw so I had to try and trim it with a kitchen knife . It was wedged floor to ceiling and the few decorations we had looked very sparse but the kids loved it . We still laugh about ‘the tree’ ! Embrace it OP.

IgneousRock · 18/12/2021 07:13

It's a fabulous tree and I think you will learn to love it!

Treez21 · 18/12/2021 07:14

@sandgrown fantastic!
