I had covid and my dd and dh did multiple test and were negative each time. This was before the jabs as well. It’s not 100% transmissible.

NerrSnerr · 17/12/2021 21:07

I know a few people who have not tested positive when family members have. If you're vaccinated that may also be reducing your risk of picking it up.

TheQueenSnortsAvocados · 17/12/2021 21:08

Of course YABU. But I can't say your post fills me with confidence that you are vaccinated...

slashlover · 17/12/2021 21:08

It's not impossible, transmission is never a 100% certainty.

gg12346 · 17/12/2021 21:08

Yes , I am triple jabbed due to my health condition .

DS has covid and the rest of the family avoided it.

Coronado2 · 17/12/2021 21:10

Both of my children have had covid, the first time 3 of us in the house didn't catch it, the second time was about 2 months after dd1 had it, so she was unlikely to catch it again anyway, but DH and I still didn't catch it. It's more likely that you didn't have it when you did the test than the test is wrong.

gg12346 · 17/12/2021 21:11

So ,what should I do ,and till how long is the infection period .Should I avoid him ?

I used RT-PCR for years in a lab. It was accurate for me. My machine wasn't tested and calibrated to the extent that a diagnostic machine is. In fact ours was a very basic, old fashioned machine. With the number of tests that they are doing, some are bound to get louses up in the sample collection and preparation stage, however transmission isn't 100 percent. It is far more likely that you are negative.

DeepaBeesKit · 17/12/2021 21:16

DD, DH and I have all had Covid this past fortnight. DS aged 4 hasnt had it, although he has had a different cough and cold.

I recall there was some study suggesting that if you were exposed to Covid when you already ill with a rhinovirus, it had some effect in "crowding out" covid? Either way, not everyone exposed to Covid gets it.

SirensofTitan · 17/12/2021 21:16

There's no certainty that you have it now or will ever catch it from him. All you can do is wait and see, it's totally up to you if you isolate from him.

I have no idea how you want the vote to work, you don't understand transmission but I don't know which way that that is

DeepaBeesKit · 17/12/2021 21:18

How old is your son? Old enough to understand it's best you don't hug/kiss for a few days? If so then fine but if it's a younger child who simply won't understand I dont think it seems fair for a parent to withhold all physical affection and stay at a distance constantly for 10 days - not if you are young and triple jabbed.

TwinkleTwinkleLittleStarFightr · 17/12/2021 21:19

Surely in the past you have had times when you’ve had close contact with someone with a cold or flu and haven’t caught it. It works the same way.

gg12346 · 17/12/2021 21:21

Son is 6 only so I dont think its possible to stay away .Kepping fingers crossed .Just let me know guys how long is the infection phase or we have to get tested again untill he becomes negative .

I had covid and my children didn’t catch it from me(nor did my husband). I didn’t isolate at all as I had to look after the children!

DroopyClematis · 17/12/2021 21:24

You might need to go onto the NHS COVID app.
We've had to do this as our son , who stayed with us a few days ago , has tested positive and we were pinged.
We have to test every day and scan the QR code onto the website.

However, many people have turned the app off.
Which is one of the reasons that the covid numbers are escalating and also why our Christmas is ruined.
Too many nonchalant people who just don't care anymore.
My adult children are now isolating, my husband and I have to do daily tests and I won't see my frail 83 year old mum again for the third Christmas running.

DorothyZbornakIsAQueen · 17/12/2021 21:24

Husband and daughter have both had it at the same time, about 8 months ago. I shared a bed with my daughter as she was quite poorly with high temp, figuring it was easier for us all to have it. I never caught it.

I'm double jabbed and have just finished my 10 day isolation after picking it up at a funeral. Daughter and husband never caught it off me.

underneaththeash · 17/12/2021 21:35

There is an incubation period and you may not have it yet, or you were asymptomatic and gave it to him, or your body has fought it off as you’re triple vaccinated.

Everyone in my family had it at the same time, we didn’t distance and I have several negative PCRs.

Endofdaysarehere · 17/12/2021 21:47

I can’t see that you WILL get it, you MIGHT, but its not a certainty. I had Covid, my son caught it from me however my DH, other DS and two DD;s didn’t catch it.

jwpetal · 17/12/2021 23:46

My son never got it and the rest of the family (4of us) did get it. We were all mixing. It happens

ChampionOfTheSun · 18/12/2021 00:04

I had Covid and neither DH or toddler DD caught it.

GarlandsinGreece · 18/12/2021 00:06

My husband has Covid three weeks ago. The week prior and on day one of his mild symptoms, we had sex three times total. I never caught Covid. Nor did our two children or my visiting parents. We each did two PCR tests and had no symptoms; husband had sniffles, a headache and major fatigue, so he definitely had it.

Laufeythejust · 18/12/2021 00:11

My DP is positive and I am negative. It’s interesting the theory above about other illnesses crowding it out. I had a really bad chest infection- negative PCR and lateral flows (every day since so about 2 weeks now). Wonder if that is why I haven’t caught it?

Angel2702 · 18/12/2021 00:56

If he tested positive two days ago you could still be incubating it, you could test positive any time over the next free days. In our house when DD had it none of us caught it.

scarpa · 18/12/2021 01:22

DH currently 4 days into a positive test result (so about 5 days since symptoms started). Our house is too tiny to properly isolate from one another, so I was assuming I'd be shortly behind him, but I've had a negative PCR and negative lateral flows since.
