I it unreasonable to give these pouches to a 13 month old baby? Tends to be the fruit ones apples pears etc.

Nope, completely normal!

veryouting2021 · 16/12/2021 18:42

Nah, it's fine as long as it's part of a broader diet and not everything is given in pouch form.

YungDumbThrills · 16/12/2021 18:43

My 4 y/o still has these for snacks!

TheMagicPudding · 16/12/2021 18:44

I still use the pouches of Prunes for my 14month old! She loves them and helps keep her from getting constipated! As others have said though her diet is regular food for her age, that's the only pouch she has

SoSickOfItNow · 16/12/2021 18:44

It will just be so soft that they may get lazy (like DS!) & decide they want to not bother chewing their other food or they may no longer like the soft feeling but it’s not unreasonable.

Splashinginpuddles15 · 16/12/2021 18:44

My 6 year old will happily have the fruit ones as a quick fruit snack on the go . Just a thick smoothie really .

StillMedusa · 16/12/2021 18:44

My DD1 had the pureed fruit for breakfast until she was over 3! She ate perfectly normal meals otherwise but just loved the fruit puree. I saw it as a stress free way of getting plenty of fruit into her.

Santahatesbraisedcabbage · 16/12/2021 18:45

Why not just a banana or cut up grapes?. Genuine question... Must cost a fortune buying ready made fruit!

Pickles89 · 16/12/2021 18:46

Yeah, they're fine for an occasional snack. Normal food is very important though, not least for speech development.

arethereanyleftatall · 16/12/2021 18:47

I wouldn't, but more because I'm stingy. They're nearly £1 and in one of them once they listed the quantity of ingredients, ie rather than 60% strawberry etc - it was something like 1/4 of a strawberry, 1/2 of a grape etc
So, I'd rather give them an actual strawberry.

Seemssounfair · 16/12/2021 18:48

Giving as an occasional alternative dessert ok. Is there a reason they cant have a cutted (🤣) up apple or pear?

DontPeeInThePlayHouse · 16/12/2021 18:49

My son is 4 years and has ASD and up until the pouch design was changed it was the only way to get fruit and veg into him. Now we only have vitamin drops.

If the pouches are part of a varied diet it's not an issue, they are great for snacks for children of different ages. In summer they are great to freeze for cooling healthier slushie.

Meatshake · 16/12/2021 19:02

Unless there's additional needs isn't it easier and less messy just to give an actual piece of fruit? I've never really understood pouches.

Lazypuppy · 16/12/2021 19:04

I still give them to my 4 year old

TrashPanda · 16/12/2021 19:07

I give the prune ones to my 6yo and 3yo. The 12yo would never eat them and has terrible bowel problems and the pouches seem to keep the other two doing ok. The rest of the diet is more standard food, they just have a pouch each with breakfast.

mogkat · 16/12/2021 19:08

My 4yr old also still enjoys these as snacks when we're out.
I find if I take fresh fruit and he doesn't end up eating it when we're out then it's a waste - whereas these pouches are just fruit and if he doesn't want it then it doesn't get opened and therefore doesn't go to waste.
He loves them chilled in the fridge! Lol

bonetiredwithtwins · 16/12/2021 19:09

To be honest I'd be giving actual fruit at 13 months as there is no need for purées - it isn't going to develop their chewing action? Sainsbury do a very similar pudding designed for 10months plus with small bits of fruit in them

Bananaandpears · 16/12/2021 19:19

She can’t really manage apples and pears and the problem with blueberries etc is she doesn’t eat enough of them for them all to be eaten, if you see what I mean. So they go off. She does eat banana.

My 19'year old has puréed fruit after ⚽️⚽️training.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 16/12/2021 19:21

Oh blimey. My 10 year old. 19 a bit too old!!

AgeingDoc · 16/12/2021 19:26

I like them and take them out on bike rides. Easy to consume whilst riding and unlike actual energy gels you can put the lid back on so you don't end up with a sticky wrapper fused to the inside of your jersey pocket when you get home!
Nothing wrong with a bit of pureed fruit at any age, as long as you're not actually living on them.

Pinkflipflop85 · 16/12/2021 19:28

My 2 year old eats mostly pouches/jars as advised by the feeding team.

Holidaytan · 16/12/2021 19:32

I think they’re lovely and I don’t even have kids!

Fallagain · 16/12/2021 19:32

We did blw but my 5 1/2 year old still have an occasional prune pouch.

Callingallskeletons · 16/12/2021 19:33

My 4 year old still has these instead of smoothies! Absolutely loves them 😂
