So I have 3 children already.. names begin with H, H and T.. the two H’s was unintentional although it is cute because they have a really small age gap between them.

I’m now about to pop with my 4th and again there is a small age gap between this one and the 3rd.. plenty of people saying we should go for a T name so it matches the 3rd but there’s none I like.

However.. there is another H name I’ve now fallen in love with, but family think it’d be wrong to use that and leave the one child without a matching name?

Is this whole thing silly, or do you agree with them that we shouldn’t use a H name? Hmm

YABU.. don’t use the H name
YANBU.. use the H name

I'd go for the B.

ClearButtons · 15/12/2021 22:55

My siblings all have R and my parents both are M's, I am a S. Honestly never gave it a second thought growing up! If anything, I had it easy as I never got the wrong post Grin

Sandinmyknickers · 15/12/2021 23:00

Your child will spend more of their life as an adult and not be thought of as one of a group of siblings...that's only really in childhood. Think about the future adult, rather than the short childhood phase. In that context, initials of siblings don't really matter

Briarshollow · 15/12/2021 23:03

How small are the gaps @Tiredasamf?

Stillgoings · 15/12/2021 23:07

I don't think a H would be a good idea. I'd be trying for a T because I like symmetry but a B would be preferable to an odd one out

georgarina · 16/12/2021 10:00

Don't think it's a big deal but it occurred to me too because I have all one initial names. But then II didn't want it to seem like a theme either - a bit twee to all have one letter names IMO

TulipsTwoLips · 16/12/2021 11:07

Don't forget that most of one's life is spent as an adult and the initial of your sibling's names really doesn't matter so much then 😀

Crispynoodle · 16/12/2021 11:13

I have 4 adult children. The first 3 have K names (I know, I know but it was well before that family came to the fore) all unintentional. The first two were named after family members. My last child has a B name. It's caused no problems at all!

FlowerPower3110 · 16/12/2021 12:01

I would go for T.

I have 4 DC, the first 2 have A and J as their initials. Then I got pregnant with twins and unintentionally we fell in love with a name that started with A. We didn't want one child to feel left out so we chose a J name for the other twin.

hotmeatymilk · 16/12/2021 12:28

Could you pick the H name you like but stick a T in front of it so the other kid doesn’t feel like an odd sock?

Tharriet, Thugo, Tharold, that sort of thing.

BobbieT1999 · 16/12/2021 13:36

@hotmeatymilk Oh, you mean like a silent T? 😄

hotmeatymilk · 16/12/2021 17:19

Pronounced with an F, like Thea

BobbieT1999 · 16/12/2021 19:30

@hotmeatymilk did you mean pronounced with a T? Otherwise I'm very confused!

ApolloandDaphne · 16/12/2021 19:51

@hotmeatymilk

Pronounced with an F, like Thea
Thea isn't pronounced with an F it is pronounced with a TH sound. So sort of Thee-a not Fee--a.
Suzanne999 · 16/12/2021 19:59

Call your child a name you like and that will suit the child through life. Each child is an individual so doesn’t need to match a sibling.

Offmyfence · 16/12/2021 20:05

@QuillBill

Mail!

She's not having her children in the 90's. I've got two teenagers and the only mail they get is birthday cards and the letter from the Child Trust Fund once a year.

So true!

I know someone like this, all of her pets and children were Rs. She was pregnant and I was guessing which R name it would be then she went with something completely random. Choose whatever name you like best!

17caterpillars1mouse · 17/12/2021 18:18

Tybalt

Talitha nn Tallie

MissMinutes24 · 17/12/2021 18:21

@FuzzyPenguin

I wouldn’t use the H name but that’s because my dad, mum and sister’s name all start with the same letter and I didn’t. Really used to bother me as a kid.
I know another family whether mum, dad and son's letter all start with one letter and the daughter's started with another and I think it bothered her a bit
WineIsMyMainVice · 17/12/2021 18:23

@jimjamgirl

I'm a "C" and my three siblings are all "S" - never made me feel left out or marginalised in any way! Go with the name you like and don't overthink it.
Absolutely agree!
CrimbleCrumble1 · 17/12/2021 18:24

I think change the name of the T child to a H name and stick with another H for the new baby.
