Delivery van parking on a drive

FawnFrenchieMum · 15/12/2021 15:06

Acceptable or not?

Drive off a fairly busy main route. Van pulls onto the drive (blocking in a car if it matters), delivers your parcel, then delivers 2/3 parcels to neighbours within 3-4 houses either side before driving off?

Couldn't get worked up about it to be honest, I'm sure he'd move if anyone needed to get on/off the drive

dementedpixie · 15/12/2021 15:11

At least he was delivering a parcel to you too

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 15/12/2021 15:12

Meh. It's not ideal I suppose but I've seen some delivery drivers do some shocking things like park on the pavement, or just abandon their vans with the hazards on so quickly using someone's drive seems like the least bad option!
I frequently have delivery drivers parking across my drive and it doesn't really bother me. They're not there for long, and I can see who the van belongs to to ask them to move it if needed.

bhsjaoiremansjdleoo · 15/12/2021 15:13

I wouldn't be bothered by this at all.

Nowomenaroundeh · 15/12/2021 15:13

Unless he's actually causing a non-hypothetical problem I wouldn't have a problem with it.

babouchette · 15/12/2021 15:14

What's he meant to do, move and repark between every delivery? I would give zero shits about this.

HeddaGarbled · 15/12/2021 15:16

Sounds safe and sensible to me.

JazzHandsYeah · 15/12/2021 15:16

Unless he was blocking you in at the point when you needed to actually drive off your drive, then no. I can’t see an issue.

sbhydrogen · 15/12/2021 15:20

I get it's annoying, but it's not too bad considering they're also delivering to you. If they weren't delivering to you, I'd be far more irritated.

viques · 15/12/2021 15:20

So he parks safely- on what you describe as a fairly busy main route - does his job, moves on. Cheeky bugger.(not)

UnsuitableHat · 15/12/2021 15:26

Don’t think it’d bother me much - quite a pragmatic decision by the driver. Not as if he’s going to be there all day.

girlmom21 · 15/12/2021 15:29

He's parked safely for all of 5 minutes? Non-issue for me.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 15/12/2021 15:35

I think this is fine tbh

At least he is delivering to you. If he parked there and covered a large area you might have a point, but just a few immediate neighbours it sounds the safe and sensible thing to do

lockdownalli · 15/12/2021 15:38

Exactly!!!!
TheWitchersWife · 15/12/2021 15:39

Wouldn't bother me at all.

LittleRoundRobin · 15/12/2021 15:39

Wouldn't bother me at all. We have delivery vans parking at the end of our drive, 3 or 4 times a week, and popping to 3 or 4 houses, when they aren't even delivering to OURS. We have a wide (2 car wide,) and long (6 car long drive.) So I think that's why they park there. The end of our drive is quite a long way from our house. We live in an end property, and that's the reason it's a big drive, as the drive goes right up the side of the house.

Cheeky sausages even smile and wave at us as they are walking back to their van! Angry Grin It makes life a bit easier for everyone though, as the road isn't blocked for the 3 or 4 minutes the driver is delivering parcels. So, as I said, we just let it go... Smile

Fence sitting here with "It depends"

I used to have drivers doing this a lot on my drive rather than parking on the empty street and walking up. It saved them all of 30 seconds.
The issue was that there is no way to turn around at the top when there are cars there and reversing back down has some tricky angles.

The results were some pretty hefty damage to my front garden where drivers had totally misjudged things and driven straight over the grass, churning it up on a regular basis. Amazon and Royal Mail both caused damage and after a right mess from Ocado I fitted an electric gate to stop them (because unbelievably closing my normal gate didn't work as they bloody opened them and drove up anyway!)

So, if they are driving straight on and off, then probably wouldn't bother me, though surely reversing out of a drive is trickier than just parking on the road?

LakeShoreD · 15/12/2021 15:44

Complete none issue. If the owner of said driveway needed to go out immediately then they could just say so and I’m sure the driver would have moved sooner. If they don’t need to go out immediately then what’s the problem?

theemmadilemma · 15/12/2021 15:45

Provided I was delivered to, and it was just a relatively short period while he did a few other houses on the road, then no, I'd have no issue at all.

Ridiculous to move to each separate house if they're close together.

user1477249785 · 15/12/2021 15:46

Yeah it would be odd and petty to object to this.

Starcaller · 15/12/2021 15:47

Wouldn't care in the least

Hercisback · 15/12/2021 15:49

Meh couldn't care less. As long as you didn't want to get off your drive at that exact moment.

Redglitter · 15/12/2021 15:49

Wouldn't even give it a second thought. Even if you need out urgently in the 5 mins hes there you'll be able to shout over to him to move.

Seems a better option for him than causing congestion on the road

Lightningrain · 15/12/2021 15:50

It wouldn’t bother me, especially at this time of year. If it saves him a few minutes of getting in/out of and moving his van to drop at 3-4 neighbour’s houses I wouldn’t begrudge him parking on my drive.

BookShark · 15/12/2021 15:53

It sounds reasonable, but I've had it the other way where I was blocked out of my drive by a delivery van. No other parking available within a reasonable distance (which is clearly why he'd parked on the drive), and I couldn't sit and block the road, so had to do circuits of the block until it moved. First world problems maybe, but definitely annoying, especially as it wasn't my delivery. Happens quite a lot with Deliveroo drivers as well, especially when it's too dark to see house numbers, they just park up and wander down the road to find the right house.
