Delivery van parking on a drive

FawnFrenchieMum · 15/12/2021 15:06

Acceptable or not?

Drive off a fairly busy main route. Van pulls onto the drive (blocking in a car if it matters), delivers your parcel, then delivers 2/3 parcels to neighbours within 3-4 houses either side before driving off?

@babouchette

What's he meant to do, move and repark between every delivery? I would give zero shits about this.

There's a delivery van that regularly has to deliver to our cul de sac, and just pulls over across the entrance to the cul de sac within the estate, blocking access for 8 houses. I've arrived home and had to squeeze past a few times, and had to wait until he moved on a number of occasions as he was parked so far across the road. And there is not a lack of space to park in here that wouldn't block residents or other visitors, before anyone asks!

pigsDOfly · 15/12/2021 15:55

I'd probably be a bit miffed if he wasn't actually delivering to me as well but otherwise would bother me at all.

Had a window cleaner ask if I'd mind him parking across my drive, blocking in my car as it happens, the other day as he couldn't get in front of the house where he was cleaning windows. I wasn't about to go out, it was fine.

JudgeJ · 15/12/2021 15:56

Unless he was there for hours I wouldn't get myself worked up about it! Yesterday the driver of an Open Reach vehicle rang the bell and asked if I was OK with his van parking across my drive, narrow road, no pavement, there were three vans in total so space was at a premium. Very nice of him but I wouldn't have minded anyway.

Knitter99 · 15/12/2021 15:57

Being a delivery driver must be a shit job at this time of year. Give them a break.

If he's delivering to you, then using your drive is expected, and obviously acceptable. Likewise, delivering to a near-neighbour at the same time I see no problem. It's the fastest and most efficient way for the deliveries to be handled.

The alternative would be moving the van 3-4 doors down to deliver 3-4 doors down. That's a lot of time wasted and fumes from the engine that don't need to be generated. I think I'd find that far less acceptable than the scenario you described.

SnowyPetals · 15/12/2021 16:02

Occasionally, for a few minutes whilst also delivering to you - don't be so petty
Regularly parking without delivering to you and staying for an hour - something to act upon

FerretFumbler · 15/12/2021 16:03

Total none issue for me, even if he wasn’t delivering to my house I couldn’t get worked up about this.

Why does it bother you, OP?

longwayoff · 15/12/2021 16:05

If it's distressing go and get your own shopping. Of course, this might mean someone could briefly park on your drive whilst you're out so remember to invest heavily in cctv and numberplate recognition software so you can investigate in your spare time.

FawnFrenchieMum · 15/12/2021 16:08

Ok so it wasn’t my drive, a neighbour moaning incessantly about it. Wondered if it was just me that wouldn’t give a shit.

To be fair there was road side parking which IMO would be easier to pull up at and drive off from rather then reversing out of a drive but maybe he was going back in the other direction so easier then finding somewhere to turn around.

I was one of the other houses he came to.

Should not be parking & stopping on someone's drive.

FerretFumbler · 15/12/2021 16:21

Really don’t care about this, so I’d ignore your neighbour’s whinging.

But I also live near a school where people block me in at school times, and I also don’t give a shit about that either.
Seems I’m in the minority but there are far more important things to get worked up about than access to drive for 10 mins a day.

ShakesFist · 15/12/2021 16:22

doesn't bother me - the delivery driver here parks across our drive. It's not like they are there for long given the short time they have to deliver parcels.

TuftyMarmoset · 15/12/2021 16:31

Seems fine to me as he was delivering a parcel to you. Better than blocking the road.

oviraptor21 · 15/12/2021 16:33

Have I missed why he can't park in the road?

oviraptor21 · 15/12/2021 16:34

This. I wouldn't like it either. My drive is not public property.
BogRollBOGOF · 15/12/2021 16:39

Cheeky but if it's more efficient then I wouldn't complain.

I couldn't get on the drive a few days ago because the neighbour's window cleaner was halfway down the shared drive. Mildly annoying, but then we get deliveries etc that stop in front of them too and we both accept it's one of the glitches of our houses and carry on living quietly.

CheddarGorgeous · 15/12/2021 16:46

I'm a parking militant and this wouldn't bother me in the slightest. Delivery drivers have a shit job and I'd like to think people would be nice to them.

BurntO · 15/12/2021 16:48

It’s safer than parking on the road, they were coming to your house, must of took 5 minutes max…can’t see the issue at all.

Ourlady · 15/12/2021 16:49

Initially I thought you had said over the drive but realise its actually on the drive. I wouldn't want a delivery van parking on my drive even if they were delivering to my house especially if they are blocking my car in.

NewYorkDiamond · 15/12/2021 16:53

I'm possessive over my drive but no, this wouldn't bother me at all. We all want the convenience of online shopping so the least we can do is let the delivery people do their jobs.

EmmaWoodhousestreehouse · 15/12/2021 16:56

It’s coming up Christmas. They’re extremely busy, get paid peanuts and don’t have to be as economical with their time as possible in order to make anything like a decent wage. They get paid per parcel. I couldn’t get worked up about this. Let them just get in with their job.

comfortablyfrumpy · 15/12/2021 16:57

Honestly wouldn't bother me. Makes it much easier for the driver and they're under incredible pressure right now.

londonrach · 15/12/2021 16:59

Totally understandable and happens here..sometimes the parcel for me but more often for my neighbour s....he there 2-3 mins at most....
