To thing it's not fair to restrict people who don't test negative after a 10 day isolation

Daughter and I have just had Covid and completed our 10 day isolation. We both had it mildly and are well. I'm double vaccinated, awaiting booster but tbh, not rushing to queue for one before christmas as I've only just had Covid and others need the booster more.

Local playgroup are saying we cannot return until we test negative on lateral flow tests.

AIBU to think this is ridiculous? Apparently it's common to continue to test positive after Covid and all the scientific data is that you are no longer able to spread the disease after 10 days (which is why the government set that as the isolation period).

They’re making up their own rules. If the govt say you’re fine to go out & about as usual now, I don’t see why they are imposing their own regulations on you too! That sucks.

AlmostD · 15/12/2021 08:22

We were told we should not do any tests for 3 months after our positives!

topcat2014 · 15/12/2021 08:22

Just lie..

SunnyLeaf · 15/12/2021 08:22

Yeah not fair, ask them what they see the as the benefit to that, and links to all the studies saying you’re not infections after x days of infection

WheelieBinPrincess · 15/12/2021 08:24

They’re making it up.

You should get the booster though if you want it, leaving it for other people that might need it more isn’t really a thing.

TheGoogleMum · 15/12/2021 08:24

You'll get false positive on both lateral flow and pcr for a few months so yes very unfair to expect a negative test just after you've had it! Having just had it your immunity to it is probably quite high now

SickAndTiredAgain · 15/12/2021 08:24

YANBU, but in this situation I would just lie.

Remoanercorona · 15/12/2021 08:25

Beside the point but lateral flows tend to go negative pretty quickly after the most infectious period. It’s pcrs that can show up for 90 days.

Cheesewiz · 15/12/2021 08:26

I didn't test negative for 14 days after covid, some still test positive after months passing since covid. Thats stupid rule

DeepaBeesKit · 15/12/2021 08:26

On I am definitely going to get the booster but there's no availability locally, so I will get it after christmas when it's a bit quieter, as I suspect a lot of the rush to get it is people worrying about seeing family at Christmas.

Frazzled2207 · 15/12/2021 08:27

They’re making up their own rules

But you are likely to turn negative on an lft after just a few days.

LethargicActress · 15/12/2021 08:30

Just fake it. If the organisers are being that ridiculous, they can’t expect people to take them seriously.

DeepaBeesKit · 15/12/2021 08:37

I didnt even realise that the government advice is actually that you should not test for 90 days after having Covid. Specifically because of continuing to test positive!

The crazy thing is, they don't ask for LFT for anyone else going so there's probably a room full of people incubating it and passing it on.....

montysma1 · 15/12/2021 09:16

My daughter (9) had a big fat positive the first day it came up (and that was fully 6 days after she could have been exposed).
It then rapidly disappeared and the lat flows were neg long before the end of the 10 days.
Having said that she had no symptoms of any sort.

NeilBuchananisBanksy · 15/12/2021 09:27

You have to wait 28 days after having covid before having your booster op.

MaskingForIt · 15/12/2021 09:30

LFT are invalid if taken less than 90 days after a Covid infection, so they’re talking nonsense.

Send them the government information and ask what they are doing.

mewkins · 15/12/2021 09:31

@AlmostD

We were told we should not do any tests for 3 months after our positives!
Me too
rose69 · 15/12/2021 09:32

You need to wait for 28 days after positive test to have a jab. PCR test can show positive upto 90 days after a positive test but you should be OK to do lateral flow.

JustLyra · 15/12/2021 09:34

The government advice about not having PCRs after covid has changed with omicron (something to do with how it shows) so perhaps they’ve got confused with that and LFTs?

Mojoj · 15/12/2021 09:34

Lie?

user290814356289 · 15/12/2021 09:37

Agree that you can still test positive until 90 days after. Not everyone will.

I'm still testing positive on lateral flows and finished my isolation 3 days ago.

SilverRingahBells · 15/12/2021 09:37

Have you actually taken an LFT or are you just getting preemptively aerated on the assumption that you'll still be positive after 10 days? FWIW DH and I were negative on PCR 14 days after a mild dose of Covid.

PermanentTemporary · 15/12/2021 09:38

I definitely would challenge but saying that, lfts for me turned negative almost immediately and presented no barrier.

LittleOwl153 · 15/12/2021 09:44

And if your daughter is youbg enough to be going to playgroup (I.e. under 11yrs old) then LFT's are not suitable on her anyway so they shouldn't be insisting on that...

...not saying you shouldn't test her - an lft on my 7yr old picked up our entire household being positive (rest of us had negative lft but all positive pcr taken same day!)

VikingOnTheFridge · 15/12/2021 09:46

They're making it up as they go along, and it's essentially pointless as people can simply lie.
