In the Mirror.

Is this the final nail in Johnson's Premiership? The Tory revolt earlier today, now this!

OOPS sorry, don't know how I quoted you, Didiusfalco!

Totally agree with @baffledbunny.

luverlybubberly · 14/12/2021 22:05

@Franklin12

People are scraping around now. Whilst I am not his greatest fan this is nothing to do with Boris. The Mirror is making itself look rather foolish here.
There are no famous faces here but did we know how many people attended this party ?
PinkTonic · 14/12/2021 22:06

It isn’t a Downing St party and it doesn’t look exactly raucous does it? If this is the most damning evidence they have I think it’s fair to say that Boris will probably live to waffle another day.

SickAndTiredAgain · 14/12/2021 22:06

@Franklin12

To be fair to them, the mirror barely mention Boris in this article. They talk about the Tory party taking disciplinary action against the senior staff members involve and discuss Shaun Bailey in much more detail.
FreeBritnee · 14/12/2021 22:07

I just can’t find it in me to give a shot about this stuff. I never did. When people on here used to talk about going against restrictions I always thought just crack on. People wearing their masks under their chin also doesn’t bother me. If they were stamping on kittens - yes. A few o’dourves and a Sherry? Couldn’t care less.

Hbh17 · 14/12/2021 22:09

This is all so tedious - who cares?

Ariann · 14/12/2021 22:10

@LouiseBelchersBunnyEars

But Boris isn’t there… ?!?
No - this was Bailey - London Mayor candidate's party. Boris not there.
Dimondsareforever · 14/12/2021 22:13

I agree with other posters …. Boris wasn’t there! So why should he be in the can for it? (Lots of other stuff maybe ….! But not this).

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 14/12/2021 22:19

Yeah. I mean, quite apart from anything else, what was there about that picture, those canapes, that looked raucous ?

@MamDancer before you get too caught up in this, consider why ? Why is this here in front of us now? As at quite a few other times during this pandemic the British Press has chosen to make a story, to fully capitalise on something that happened months before and to whip it up into a NOW thing.

Did you see the last podium talk? Omicron could be faster spreading than we think, here is why we think that and here is the data for you to look at.

Press: PM, did you call this presser to hide the real news, the party? (No, this is the usual timing after the usual scientific meetings discussing the latest research news, FFS!)

Press: But PM, the party, the party, the party. Sod the news, the possible increased threat, what about the party?

CW/PV: Could we get back to the Public Health message?

Press: Fuck the public and its health, what aboiut the party?

It's been like that almost all the way through, but that last ine was almost like they had become so innured to the idea of Covid, deaths etc, that they just briushed it off, imagining they had scented a 'real story'. When what they had was just another of the general twattishness of all governments everywhere!

Still, it did give Starmer the chance to sound reasonable and supportive of the new Covid plan whilst being able to tut loudly.

Maybe that was the point for some of the journalists involved!

And I don't think that is for them to manufacture!

underneaththeash · 14/12/2021 22:19

I can't see Boris in that..

Beachgirl33 · 14/12/2021 22:21

Boris and his cronies have nothing but contempt for everyone not in their wee elite group. They are above us all so do not bother with the rules they impose on the riffraff. They’re not bothered about getting caught as there’s no consequences for them. They couldn’t give a flying fuck about covid restrictions or leading by example. He is an embarrassment for a PM.

MamDancer · 14/12/2021 22:24

I'm not caught up in it, just put it here out of interest in any views.

reesewithoutaspoon · 14/12/2021 22:25

I,m more surprised that they are that fucking stupid and arrogant that they took photographic evidence, so sure were they, that they were above the law.

LawnFever · 14/12/2021 22:26

@Lockheart

This isn't a Downing St Christmas party picture. It's from the Tory Party HQ and is a bunch of aides / donors, and was taken several days before the Downing St party.
Yes anyone capable of clicking on the link knows that.

But since they’re all Tory aides and donors it demonstrates an utter disregard/contempt from the top down for the rules they were imposing on everyone else.

They clearly didn’t think those rules applied to them in the slightest, and felt there was no consequences from anyone above them.

LawnFever · 14/12/2021 22:30

Yeah. I mean, quite apart from anything else, what was there about that picture, those canapes, that looked raucous ?

The fact that at the same time households in general weren’t supposed to be mixing and people were arrested for drinking coffee on a walk with one friend makes this look raucous in comparison.

It’s about the context of what everyone else was following at the time.

MamDancer · 14/12/2021 22:30

Well Shaun Bailey immediately resigned from the London assembly, so there is a consequence!

OP posts:
AwkwardPaws27 · 14/12/2021 22:32

I'm so sad. And angry.
I had my third miscarriage in August, my husband wasn't allowed in the EPAU or to be with me during the scan or whilst seeing the nurse consultant. In August. When we were both double vaccinated.
We were very lucky and are expecting again; I had a number of early scans in October & November. We had to call the EPAU to ask permission for him to be in the fucking waiting room in case it was bad news again. Hospital security originally said he wasn't even allowed in.
And these selfish fuckers had a fucking party while we tried to have a semblance of Christmas over fucking Zoom.

Oncebittentwice · 14/12/2021 22:33

I understand there’s a strong feeling that Boris Johnson should resign but it feels like people are trying to hang the blame on to pegs that don’t exist in this case. He’s committed plenty of misdemeanours but nothing to see here…Scraping the barrel at every opportunity for any old bit of tattle just weakens the argument for him to go. It’s become a fishing expedition now. I don’t like him as PM but flinging mud isn’t the answer

Franklin12 · 14/12/2021 22:33

They are as thick as anything photographing it. However are we saying that Labour, the Greens etc did nothing similar. Nothing at all??

I know some people seem to think it’s all about Boris but this is about human nature and that cross all political parties.

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 14/12/2021 22:33

@MamDancer

I did say before you get caught up in it
OhdearOhdearOhdearIndeed · 14/12/2021 22:33

@LoveB

Interesting that none of them were afraid of catching covid. And this was before vaccines! And then the next day telling us to stay at home so we don't catch covid and die.

Why were they not afraid of catching it, but telling us we should be?

Yes, that's a very good point.
Offmyfence · 14/12/2021 22:34

@user1471505494

Where was Boris in that picture
Probably shagging one of his aides!
Lockheart · 14/12/2021 22:36

And how important is it now? Today?

Back then? Yep, take their names, publish the pictures and make them face upto their stupidity.

But why now? Like many other people cross the country they chose to do something else. Yes, they had greater expectations of them, but I keep coming back to why now?

I'd rather the press choose to print real news, be unbiased, give us real Covid news, properly reported arguments and counter arguments and just generally not treat us like easily confused and distracted kids.
