How long is reasonable to take to forward post on?

I stupidly sent a parcel to my old address, immediately contacted our agents to then contact our tenants who said they would forward on, and that some letters had also arrived for me.

That was 9 days ago on the 5th Dec.

Obviously this was my own mistake... but how long can I reasonably expect to wait for them to forward?

Last I heard they're going to drop at the Savills office and someone at Savills will forward on. This hasn't yet happened. Personally I would just go to the post office and send if roles were reversed!

Wwyd?

Truthfully it would depend how much of a hassle it was correcting someone else's mistake

zingally · 15/12/2021 12:38

I wouldn't be prioritising it either, certainly not at the moment. People have got enough going on at the moment, without having to sort out near-strangers whoopsies.

Luckily for me, my tenants are a lot more helpful!

It's more that I physically CAN'T do it. Getting to the post office during the week is a nightmare and involves a very prompt departure from work, and luck with the traffic. So you are dependant on me having a gap on a Saturday morning. It wouldn't be me being awkward, just the realities of my work location and the opening hours of the establishments you would want me to visit.
And, no I wouldn't take leave for you.

RidingMyBike · 15/12/2021 12:59

Even if it's only 6 mins walk from their front door, that's 12 min round trip, plus however long spent queueing (15 mins minimum judging by last week's visit to the Post Office). So, effectively a minimum of half an hour out of their day, with an element of uncertainty re time in queue. That wouldn't be physically possible on a workday for me. Longer if they have to take eg small child with them. I'd take it with me if I was going to take other parcels so would be queueing anyway, but I wouldn't have time at this time of year to take it on its own, plus I'm avoiding shops unless absolutely essential due to the Covid variant. It's not about being nice and kind etc, it's about physically having the time and opportunity and not putting my family at risk.

You can pay Royal Mail for the postman to collect it from the door - it's only 50p etc I think, and the post office can provide printed labels. which would be a good solution of the tenant is likely to be at home?

It may depend as well on how much goodwill the tenant is feeling. I must admit that I wouldn't be going out of my way to help our landlord!

I have a Christmas card for my neighbours down the roas that was sent to our address 2 weeks ago, still haven't put it through the door. Must do that today 😂

Voldermortsballsack · 15/12/2021 13:03

Sorry this wouldn’t be a priority for me either. Can you go and knock on their door?

CornishGem1975 · 15/12/2021 13:04

I'd do it when I got round to it, but mostly I return post to sender now.

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 15/12/2021 13:18

At this time of year I'd be thinking it might be a Christmas present for someone and so I drop it off something 3/4 days.

Theremoresefulday · 15/12/2021 13:56

So any altruistic act needs 'encouraging' with bribery?

No. But it’s right in the teeth of Christmas and to take the parcel to the agent is a major ball ache for anyone working full time office hours

You’re asking them to give up a fair amount of time on a Saturday morning to do it

They sent it yesterday at 4pm, after I offered to arrange a courier.

OP - I think you are mistaking people saying they would not prioritise sorting out your mistake with not being helpful. Most people said they would send it when they had time as far as I can see.

At the end of the day it took your tennants just over a week to get it sorted, so I don't see what the problem is.

I suggest you take more care when arranging deliveries and stop acting like people owe you their immediate support and attention to resolve your entirely avoidable mistakes.

succession · 15/12/2021 15:13

My 'WWYD' was from my perspective, I think people are maybe answering that with what they would do with the parcel in completely different circumstances to my tenants.

Anyway, parcel has arrived.

Utterly condescending!
