How long is reasonable to take to forward post on?

I stupidly sent a parcel to my old address, immediately contacted our agents to then contact our tenants who said they would forward on, and that some letters had also arrived for me.

That was 9 days ago on the 5th Dec.

Obviously this was my own mistake... but how long can I reasonably expect to wait for them to forward?

Last I heard they're going to drop at the Savills office and someone at Savills will forward on. This hasn't yet happened. Personally I would just go to the post office and send if roles were reversed!

Wwyd?

MN is like another planet full of mean spirited people. I had a parcel for our previous owners and it was no trouble to pop it to the post office. For everyone saying it’s ‘not a priority’ I bet you’d be on here all miffed and indignant if it was you.

SuPerDoPer · 15/12/2021 05:04

Yeah, I would definitely drop it off somewhere for you within a day or 2. Mistakes happen and it is the season of goodwill after all. Some of the replies on here just show how little people are prepared to put themselves out to help someone else. God forbid you lot ever need a favour from someone!

BorsetshireBanality · 15/12/2021 06:21

Oh a Savills house. Of course they will send their butler to do it right away!

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 15/12/2021 06:34

Having moved into a house where this happening, even one year later, I dont bother very much. They letters/parcels will usually sit in a cuboard for a month or so before I write 'return to sender' and post them back into the post box. They may or may not get back to the people that lived here before - honestly, not my problem.

Twizbe · 15/12/2021 06:36

Where do you live now? Round by us we haven't had any post for weeks because the whole sorting office is off sick.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 15/12/2021 06:53

I’ve had a parcel ready to send for my friends birthday (which was end of November) sat on my table for nearly a month now. My nearest post office is only open during my working hours and for a few hours on a Saturday morning, when I like a lie-in. I struggle to make it to the post office outside of school holidays (when I’m off work) even to send things for close friends so if it was a parcel for a previous tenant it would be very low on my list of priorities, especially this close to Christmas. Maybe Feb half term I’d manage to send it!

InTheLabyrinth · 15/12/2021 07:01

I'd do it as soon as I could, but could only get to the estate agent at the weekends - which realistically means 9.-12.30 on a Sat. So it could take 2 weekends. But id want the parcel out of my house.
The Post Office is slightly easier, but only open till 5.30 so would be tight to get it there after work. Same hours as estate agent on a Sat.

Fleur405 · 15/12/2021 07:08

I know it’s not the same but 2 years after she moved out I still get Mail for the woman who used to live here. Sorting it out is never at the top of my to do list because it really annoys me that she never redirected her mail! I realise from what you’ve said this was just a mix up but it is a hassle for the new residents especially at this time of year and with Covid etc. if they are working from home for example then it may be a special trip out. These days Royal Mail will collect parcels from you - can you book and pay for that online and send them the label? It’s not expensive at all and all they would have to do is print the label and answer the door to the postie.

PhilCornwall1 · 15/12/2021 07:19

I wouldn't be taking the parcel anywhere. I'd be expecting you to arrange a courier to pick it up.

Letters would be posted "not known at this address".

Theremoresefulday · 15/12/2021 07:23

I’m sorry but I work mon - fri so couldn’t do it then. I’d have to do it on a weekend and it’s the last weekend before Christmas this weekend. I have stuff to do for myself and I would try to drop it to the agent but I might not have time.

Shavingrash · 15/12/2021 07:24

I would probably just take in a parcel once and thereafter write not at this address. I wouldn't be taking post for a previous occupant.

MadeOfStarStuff · 15/12/2021 08:18

It really wouldn’t be my priority to fix your mistake, especially at this time of year when people are busy. I certainly wouldn’t go to the post office and pay to send it on to you!

LawnFever · 15/12/2021 08:27

I honestly wouldn’t prioritise this, I’ve got enough errands of my own to sort without sorting out other people’s mistakes.

Any post that arrives for the previous owners of our house two years on gets ‘not known at this address’ written on it and put back in the post, I don’t even have a forwarding address and tbh I’d do the same even if I did.

BrocolliFloret · 15/12/2021 09:20

I find posting stuff a really massive chore. I have bought clothes for friends’ children that I’ve never got round to sending whilst the kids are still in the right age range. I know I’m useless in this regard.

Dropping to the Savills office might be a bit easier but only if the tenants have a free hour on a Saturday. It is quite a big ask. I think you should arrange a courier.

succession · 15/12/2021 09:47

Pretty shocked at how unhelpful most people would be! Regardless of who's mistake it is, it's nice to help someone out, isn't it? Especially as it's a once off!

Anyway, they've now sent it.

Haha! What are you on about

BorsetshireBanality · 15/12/2021 09:51

It’s one think sticking an address label on and putting it in the post but quite another driving to post office in your lunch hour, paying parking, queuing up etc etc.

Well yeah it's nice and I'd do it but it's not my priority so I'd probably have to wait until January now.

The post office is 6 mins walk away from their front door, I used to live there so I know

Maybe so, I was rebutting the need for driving and parking.

PicaK · 15/12/2021 10:56

If they're working Mon-Fri that leaves them a Sat morning.
So in their own time they've got to pop it in the office. Never mind what their plans are.
You haven't even sent them anything to encourage this. You could Amazon Morriston shop a bottle of wine...
I think you should just order again.
Not be tapping your nails with impatience.

So any altruistic act needs 'encouraging' with bribery?

This thread is an eye opener!

I wouldn’t in a hurry to do this. I don’t drive and atm I wouldn’t want to use public transport. We have lots of our own problems to sort out and I’m cutting on my sleep trying to do everything, DH hasn’t got time this week and last week to call his own mum so your parcel will have to go on our long to do list and wait.
