If you don't have a toilet brush, how do you clean marks in the toilet ?

Just that really. I've read that people don't have toilet brushes. They are gross to be fair.

But how do you clean the toilet if there are marks in it ?

I would love to find an alternative to a toilet brush. Enlighten me.

Bleach and tissue

Mouseonmychair · 14/12/2021 09:55

Men take take a well aimed piss. The man in our household proudly proclaims his pressure washing each day.

Mouseonmychair · 14/12/2021 09:56

Oh and beach twice a week.

Mouseonmychair · 14/12/2021 09:56

Sorry bleach

galacticpixels · 14/12/2021 10:05

I put bleach around the toilet bowl, leave for 15 mins, and it clears off everything easily then when I flush.

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 14/12/2021 10:07

No bleach. Small piece of tissue.

And I save old kitchen sponges and use them to fully clean the loo with vinegar and baking soda, or borax if I have it (makes a great drain cleaner too).

Thetwomutts · 14/12/2021 10:08

Thing is if there is limescale in the bowl the bleach won't remove the build-up, just makes the build up whiter instead of yellow

Over time you end up with the limescale holding on to discoloration from urine, and after a couple of years it will start to look absolutely disgusting

Seeline · 14/12/2021 10:08

But on recent thread bemoaning the lack of thin bleach in the shops, loads of people piled on telling others off for daring to use any form of bleach anywhere in the house!

MN is weird! FWIW I use both!!!

Hunderland · 14/12/2021 10:09

The only thing that works in our house is the blue Domestos bleach which gets rid of anything - pour on and leave and the crap vanishes.

LaBellina · 14/12/2021 10:10

Toilet brushes are vile indeed. We have one but it’s rarely ever used. Throw some toilet paper in the bowl before you do a poo, that prevents marks in the first place. Bleech works too, and throwing tissue on marks and wet it for a bit, then leave for an hour or so and the wet tissue sort of scrapes off the marks when you flush.

This is fucking gross.
DeepaBeesKit · 14/12/2021 10:13

I always assume this notion you can manage with no loo brush is a soft water area thing.

It's just not possible in hard water - bleach does nothing at all to clean off limescale.

DropYourSword · 14/12/2021 10:14

I never used to have a toilet brush as I never needed one. But I changed the toilet in my house and since then a really weird build up collects at the very bottom just before the u-bend. It’s like a weird fine layer of grime/toilet paper. It HAS to be because of the material or the finish of the toilet because it never used to be an issue. No amount of bleach would clean it. I need a toilet brush! But now I’ve got a silicone one which is way better than the bristly ones.

girlmom21 · 14/12/2021 10:16

Bleach works for marks left when people use the toilet but won't clean all limescale build up without a brush too.

Iwantmyoldnameback · 14/12/2021 10:16

Toilet brush stands in bleach solution which is flushed weekly. My toilet brush is shining bright, I inspect it like the people on Four in a Bed. In real life everyone I know has a toilet brush by every toilet. And I'm not happy when they ate not provided in hotels. Very hard water area here, have to resort to Black Harpic occasionally but my real go to is Domestos white unstoppable.

Why so many poo-related threads at the moment?

It’s almost as if the poo troll is back....,,, ????

Mummyexpat · 14/12/2021 10:17

When we lived in the Middle East all toilets came equipped with a bidet hose (or bum hose as we called them! 🤣) I rarely used it for personal cleaning but they are awesome for cleaning the loo! So much so, in our newly renovated house, we’re having them by every loo! 😁

I always put toilet paper down first, but my new toilet is weird. And without sharing too much disgusting detail, there are always marks. There's literally no way to avoid it with the shape of the toilet. You have to actually scrub quite a bit with the brush. It's so gross, I hate it. I then clean the brush with bleach until it looks clean. Toilet brushes are gross, but visibly dirty ones are next level gross.

Yes those are brilliant for cleaning the toilet !

Also I never really get why people think a toilet brush is dirty when it gets cleaned by the bleach and other cleaning products you use.

It's not like people dunk it in poo and just leave it like that.

DoncasterHombre · 14/12/2021 10:19

With somebody elses toothbrush or the cat.

DeepaBeesKit · 14/12/2021 10:21

I've literally never seen a "visibly dirty toilet brush" and everyone I know uses a toilet brush.

If its left visibly dirty you are using it wrong!!

I live in a very hard water area. And lived for years in a house with a septic tank. I just continue to do what I used to have to do. It's no hassle and you don't get the 'invisible' build up that you get with bleach.

A cloth that has reached the end of its other cleaning days, vinegar, borax and / or baking soda cleans far better than commercial cleaning products. You just have to actually use your hands!

I've seen some manky ones.

My MIL has one that she's not changed for at least 3 years and it's so disgusting, it's white and has poo all over it and lots of poo water in the bottom. I recently knocked it over and it was just so disgusting I nearly puked.

I change mine often and I try to keep them clean with bleach. But the concept is still manky.
