If you don't have a toilet brush, how do you clean marks in the toilet ?

Just that really. I've read that people don't have toilet brushes. They are gross to be fair.

But how do you clean the toilet if there are marks in it ?

I would love to find an alternative to a toilet brush. Enlighten me.

In the spirit of sharing the 'secrets of natural cleaning, no bleach etc' save up all old socks too. They clean the loo well, and can be cut into strips and laid along sealant strips or tiles, to clean those too.

I changed all my toilet brushes to silicone ones last year. They really do look much better and are easy to sterilise BUT I have to say, they lack the 'scrubbing' ability of good old bristle brushes, they just don't have the abrasion that comes from a nylon bristle brush.

I agree dirty toilet brushes that were once white and now covered in dubious marks are disgusting, especially when they are 'on display' in the toilet. Mines are all hidden away in little freestanding slim cupboards with spare loo rolls.
Anyway, silicone is decent, stays looking nice, is easy to keep clean and doesn't get stuff stuck to it, but you still have to use it in conjunction with loo cleaner or bleach to really get the toilet cleaned.

BTW I HATE blue Domestos, used it once and it stained the loo seats and lid where it splashed them, its lethal for staining stuff.

We don’t have one but there are never marks, I don’t know what my husband does but I’ve never had to clear any after I’ve been.

When it comes to cleaning the loo, loo cleaner, then I get a glove and cheap scouring pads, cut up the pads so I get a few uses, scrub the loo and then throw away.

Swirl of Domestos, leave on for 15 minutes then clean with toilet paper and flush or leave for longer and use the old sponge as PP then throw them away.

Bleach

I use Duck Fresh, its a plastic holder with one use flushable cleaners. Click to release the old one after cleaning and insert new one, all can be done without touching as release grip is at the end of the plastic holder. They are impregnated with cleaning product and you can exert pressure so I find they clear up anything. I leave the used one in the bowl for a while too as it releases the product and cleans under the water in the bowl as well.

I just happened to watch this the other day. Weirdly topical now

@DeepaBeesKit

I've literally never seen a "visibly dirty toilet brush" and everyone I know uses a toilet brush.

If its left visibly dirty you are using it wrong!!

I have seen some pretty vile ones troughout the years 🤮
backtolifebacktoreality · 15/12/2021 05:40

I put toilet paper in the bowl before using the toilet. That generally stops any marks!

I'm in the US so maybe these are not in the UK and probably bad for the environment but I love these! Disposable so not gross!!

Bleach!

RedWingBoots · 15/12/2021 05:48

@Mummyexpat

When we lived in the Middle East all toilets came equipped with a bidet hose (or bum hose as we called them! 🤣) I rarely used it for personal cleaning but they are awesome for cleaning the loo! So much so, in our newly renovated house, we’re having them by every loo! 😁
They have them in some other countries as well.

Silicone toilet brushes are great. Controversial on MN, i know.

More single use plastics etc. Great!
