What would you do - stolen cat

Any advice? My ragdoll cat went missing on Saturday she’s been seen in a house on the next road. I also saw heard her when I knocked on the door they saw me through the window and sat back down.

For context this happened before end of 2019, however I got her back after a lot of going there, knocking on door calls etc. someone text me to say that she was in their garden so I went over and grabbed her.

No issues since then I kept her indoors for a significant period of time. She went out Saturday, I couldn’t lock her in that night as I was in hospital with my baby. I didn’t think to ask the person doing the animals for me to lock the cat flaps.

So far I’ve been to the house, added posts on Facebook asking if people have seen her etc. when this first happened that’s how I found where she was the woman admitted locking her in for a week and said she was going to take her to vets just didn’t get around to it. I’ve sent text messages as well.

I can’t keep going around tonight in the cold as I’m a single mum was a three month old baby who has an infection whos already had one hospital admission?

Do I keep going around / asking someone to for me? Or call 101 as I know in some areas police will intervene but not all.

Call the police. Failing that whip up a FB pitchfork movement

icedcoffees · 12/12/2021 18:43

Is she chipped to you? The RSPCA may be interested even if the police aren't.

Personally I would get her back and never let her out again.

melissasummerfield · 12/12/2021 18:44

Just go back and if you know they in keep knocking the door / window / shout through the letter box until they come to the door?

OnlyonemoresleeptilChristmas · 12/12/2021 18:44

Have you actually seen that she’s in that house again?
If not I’m not sure you call call 101 to report that she might be in there. If you have seen that she is definitely in there then yes, call.

saleorbouy · 12/12/2021 18:45

Speak to the RSPCA they should know how to take this.

alienbaby · 12/12/2021 18:48

I think you're not supposed to let ragdolls out as they arent like normal cats they are defenceless. Call the RSPCA

IncompleteSenten · 12/12/2021 18:48

I'd use FB. Pictures of your cat and lots of sad faces. X have taken my beautiful cat again. Please can someone help me. I've been round loads and they won't open the door and give her back.

Cheeseplantboots · 12/12/2021 18:48

I’d try the police and once you get her back keep her in. I thought rag dolls were indoor cats?

IncompleteSenten · 12/12/2021 18:50

Oh, just reread you haven't seen your cat in there this time.
Make it vague. My wonderful cat has been taken again, if anyone sees her please help me etc etc

Absc · 12/12/2021 18:55

Yep she is microchipped to me. Once I can get her back will not ever be letting her out again. I didn’t think as my three month old has stopped feeding and was struggling to breath so he needed to get to the hospital asap. So it was an after thought getting someone to feed the cats.

We tried keeping ragdolls as indoor cats but they were miserable and would cry for hours being stuck inside so let them out in the end as them being happy was the most important thing.

I would go round and say I have seen my cat in your house can you pass them over please. Call them out. If the don’t open the door I would pop a note through the door and ask to discuss before you take it further.

Absc · 12/12/2021 18:57

I’ve had ragdolls for 15 plus years who all went outside only as far as the garden etc.

This ragdoll likes to hit my dog and is not a typical ragdoll she thinks she’s a dog at times 🤣

This is terrible. When she’s next home can you put a label on a collar to say privately owned much loved cat or something ? There must be something you can try. It’s unbelievable anyone would do this and ignore you trying to get her home

RepentMotherfucker · 12/12/2021 18:59

Cats are property aren't they? Call the police. Exactly as if they had stolen your bike.

alienbaby · 12/12/2021 19:00

Actually I think its cruel to keep any cat in, your best bet after this is to get her well known to the entire neighbourhood so that everyone makes it their business to keep an eye out for her.

Start now as PP said by launching a FB campaign, get your community behind you, call RSPCA.

Oh....and keep us informed 😉

Wildrobin · 12/12/2021 19:01

I agree with calling them out on it as poster suggested above . Florin gives great advice. You shouldn’t be forced to lock her in if don’t want to.

IntermittentParps · 12/12/2021 19:03

It’s theft. Call the police.

lockdownalli · 12/12/2021 19:04

I would have called police.

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 12/12/2021 19:07

Police for sure. And contact all the local vets to let them know she is missing, that you think you know who has her and ask them if they can keep the cat if she is brought in to them. She is microchipped to you so this shouldn’t be an issue.

twilightcafe · 12/12/2021 19:17

Name and shame on Facebook.

They are theives.

What if they don’t use Facebook?
hartof · 12/12/2021 19:20

I'd be making their life very difficult. Keep banging on their door/window.

Wowzel · 12/12/2021 19:22

This happened to me and the police said they couldn't help.

I just kept knocking until eventually the woman gave my cat back - but it was awful

I hope you get her back soon

She is well known as only ragdoll in area everyone knows she is mine. The person who has her knows my house and has my contact number etc. I’ve just phoned 101 waiting for a call back.

I would be round there very frequently and generally being a nuisance! I hope the police do help! Very sorry this has happened, must be very upsetting. Hope your baby is okay💐

I have a ragdoll that goes out and really don’t think it is kind to keep them in. Mine is a bit thick and hasn’t realized there is a life beyond the garden (or doesn’t care) but absolutely loves a little scurry in the garden of a morning.
