To keep my washing machine?

NC for this as I have already discussed with a few friends so its now a bit outing.

House buyers have been round this morning to measure up and we had a bit of a chat, while in the kitchen lady comments on my lovely washing machine and says “it’s much better than the one we are leaving behind”.

For context the machine is a good brand, bought 3 months ago and I intentionally budgeted more for the one with the little door to add forgotten socks etc. I had no intention of leaving it and did not include it on the seller information.

I told my buyer the machine would be coming with me, and she was all astonishment. It turns out they have already agreed to leave their white goods to their buyer and had just assumed I would do the same.

Two friends say I am not being unreasonable but one says I am selling my house and will have enough to replace it, plus it would be easier for everyone in the chain to leave large appliances so what’s the fuss?

So please people of mumsnet, AIBU to want to take my machine with me??

Only leave integrated appliances. I don’t know if someone else has looked after theirs, I’d be keeping my own.

ShirleyPhallus · 12/12/2021 10:56

It’s absolutely fine to take it or leave it but you must tell the solicitor so they can put it in the list of appliances / stuff that’s being left (can’t remember the official name of the document)

Don’t leave it just to be nice!

Idontgiveagriffindamn · 12/12/2021 10:57

If it’s integrated I would assume you were leaving it, if not I’d assume you were taking it.

Ilikewinter · 12/12/2021 10:58

Ive only ever left and had left integrated appliances.
You'll fill in a fixtures and fittings list so can put on there what you intend to leave and take.

Theremoresefulday · 12/12/2021 10:59

If it’s not on the fixtures and fittings list, take it. She’s a CF.

inmyslippers · 12/12/2021 11:00

I wouldn't expect people to leave white goods

SusieBob · 12/12/2021 11:01

If it's not listed on the schedule then you can do what you want with it. If it's a new machine I'd definately be taking it with me.

TangerineDreams · 12/12/2021 11:03

Not a bloody chance would I be leaving my washer. (Unless it was on its last legs of course!) It's my own personal item, like my ironing board, kettle or my bloody coat! It is not a fitted item that's part of the kitchen.

Jumpingintochristmas · 12/12/2021 11:04

You will have submitted a schedule of goods, if it’s not on there then your buyer should have already know it wasn’t staying. Her buyers are paying for a sale including white goods, she isn’t!

Oldraver · 12/12/2021 11:05

She's a cheeky fucker if she thinks you will leave your machine and she or your friends should not assume you will or are doing anything out of the ordinary. Offer to sell it to her and see how keen she is. For her cheek alone I would take it

Though it could be easier to leave it depending on who is moving you. Also I think the sock hole is a gimmick. Many machines can be opened now as they are low water models and as long as it isnt spinning or full of suds you cab open them

DropYourSword · 12/12/2021 11:05

New buyer might also like your husband, or your dog, or your mobile phone, but you ain’t leaving them behind for her either!

Quite tempted to leave the partner behind actually, he’s been beyond useless at packing

Integrated yes.
Free standing no.

tallduckandhandsome · 12/12/2021 11:10

She’s trying it on. Don’t fall for it.

Skyeheather · 12/12/2021 11:17

Send her the make and model number and she can buy herself the same one!

frogsbreath · 12/12/2021 11:21

She is trying it on, it's not part of standard fixtures and fittings and if there's been no prior agreement to include specific large goods in the sale then she's no reason to believe she's getting your 3 month old washer!

Handsoffmyspincycle · 12/12/2021 11:22

Thank you all I’m relieved to hear you all agree, third friend really had me doubting myself Confused

Also @Oldraver don’t diss my gimmicky sock hole WinkGrin

OP My son was desperate for the gimmicky sock hole and is sorely disappointed by our practical machine

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 12/12/2021 11:35

We sold an American style fridge freezer, washing machine and tumble dryer, to our buyers. They wouldn’t have worked in the new house, so I would have sold them anyway.

I'd be lost without that gimmick. When I bought the machine the ad wash feature was new and low water models, if they were available, were incredibly expensive. I use it a lot.
Handsoffmyspincycle · 12/12/2021 11:39

@Oldraver I must confess to holding back a sock or two during the first few uses just so I could have a go at the gimmicky sock hole, admittedly haven’t used it since but I’m still not willing to say goodbye to it!

I’d only leave integrated appliances so YANBU . I find it odd that someone would expect you to leave freestanding white goods .

Mosaic123 · 12/12/2021 11:42

Our buyers wanted our tall fridge and seperate freezer (not integrated) but we wanted to take them. They were 8 years old and we could use them in our new kitchen.

We said that we would leave them for £750. They declined.

Mosaic123 · 12/12/2021 11:43

Just quote a price you'd be happy to leave them at. A little less than a new one

purplecorkheart · 12/12/2021 11:44

She is trying it on. Just because she assumed doesn't mean it is going to happen.
