Would you take dog the vets? (Gross picture)

Woke up this morning, dog was fine, she hasn't cried or whinged or made any indication she is in pain but I noticed a bit of blood on her bed, maybe the size of a 10p but like it had rubbed there not soaked through if that makes sense so I checked her over and then I saw her chin!!

Like I say it isn't bleeding anymore and she doesn't seem bothered but I think we should go vets anyway, partner disagrees and says if it isn't bleeding and isn't bothering her to leave it and see how it goes.

Would you take her the vets or wait?

That looks deep, I'd take her

Limegreentangerine · 11/12/2021 09:07

Hi op
My dog had exactly this and it required stitches .. at 400 quid! Think a trip to the vets is on the cards today!

Theworldisfullofgs · 11/12/2021 09:07

Yes.

JuneOsborne · 11/12/2021 09:09

Ooh, that looks deep. And it's the whole keep it clean thing. I'd totally be going to the vets.

MrMrsJones · 11/12/2021 09:09

I'm not one for running to the vets. But that looks deep and as if she has cut it somehow, needs looking at

TokyoSushi · 11/12/2021 09:11

Yes I'd take her too (also from the treat at home if possible camp)

Anonaymoose · 11/12/2021 09:11

I'm a vet nurse op, yes that needs veterinary attention. Probably needs probed/flushed to make sure there's no foreign body in there, maybe a stitch or 2. But apart from anything else he'd likely benefit from some pain relief.

Daisy829 · 11/12/2021 09:12

I’d defo go to the vets for that. Like pp have said it looks quite deep so might need a couple of stitches and some antibiotics. Better to treat it now then let it get worse

TisTheSeasonToBeVegan · 11/12/2021 09:13

I’d say she needs to see the vet for that. It might need stitches and some painkiller. She may be in pain and if you leave it you risk her getting an infection and possibly needing treatment over Xmas which would be a nightmare. Hope she’s ok.

Mindymomo · 11/12/2021 09:14

I would definitely go to vet, it could get infected if left open like that.

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 11/12/2021 09:15

Have you worked out what caused it?

And ye, vet. That looks like it needs investigating and stitches.

cheeseislife8 · 11/12/2021 09:16

Another vet nurse here, and yes that needs veterinary attention, best to get ddog seen today

Okbutnotgreat · 11/12/2021 09:16

Too deep to leave it @Houseonahill that needs checking, cleaning and probably stitching. I definitely wouldn’t leave because if it gets infected it could be nasty and emergency vets over xmas aren’t cheap.

icedcoffees · 11/12/2021 09:17

She's absolutely needs the vet - that needs cleaning and stitching up.

What caused it? It looks very deep!

GoodnightGrandma · 11/12/2021 09:18

Yes, looks like it needs stitches.

TrashyPanda · 11/12/2021 09:19

Aww, poor puppy.
Yes, down to the vets this morning. Don’t leave it.

LuluBlakey1 · 11/12/2021 09:20

Yes, it is a deep, penetrative injury and may have caused internal damage and bleeding. How did she get that? It looks like a 'stab' type injury rather that a tear , scrape or bite. Do you have anything in the garden she could have got it from?

nonetcurtains · 11/12/2021 09:20

Agree, needs vet's attention. If it's happened overnight and the only sign of blood is in her bed, have a careful feel in the bed for the cause, must be something sharp in there.

Years ago my family dog had a similar cut and there was a sharp end of wicker in his basket wall that he'd caught it on.

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 11/12/2021 09:21

Yes that needs stitches. Take her today.

CentrifugalBumblePuppy · 11/12/2021 09:21

I’d definitely take her, and I’ve taken a pet first course years ago (led by my vet friend lol) and have a comprehensive Pawly Paws animal first aid kid (which also contains bum valium for our doofus epileptic cat) and can handle most bumps & minor injuries my pillock, accident prone hounds get.

SantaHat · 11/12/2021 09:24

How on Earth did they do that??!

And I agree with the others, that’s a nasty deeply cut. It needs to be professionally cleaned and possibly stitched.

Hoardasurass · 11/12/2021 09:24

Yes that needs stitches and possibly antibiotics. My poor dog ended up with both after another dog bit her only cost £250 for 2 lots of antibiotics and the stitches incl removal

OldTinHat · 11/12/2021 09:25

Oh yes, vets. Definitely. That looks deep and sore. Stitches needed imo.

itwasntaparty · 11/12/2021 09:26

Yes without question, it's too deep and you don't want infection to set in.

Houseonahill · 11/12/2021 09:28

Literally no idea how she did it Sad I let her out in the garden and she was barking which she doesn't normally (I got her in as soon as she started) so the only thing I can think of is she has chased a cat in to the fence or something, have checked her bed nothing in there and I noticed it just after she came in, going to check the fence now for anything sharp and call the vets Sad thank you everyone
