to think William and Kate's Christmascard this year was badly judged?

So not only has William been hectoring us about climate change and sustainable travel, but there's been a pandemic which has been a pandemic which for many people has been financially devastating, and for most of us a holiday seems a distant pipe dream. So this year of all years they have chosen a photo of themselves all looking tanned and relaxed on a (presumably free) holiday. Just feels a tad ill judged?

do they stop and think how it is going to be received no everyone on their feed?

You do realise the royals have PR & comms team exactly for the reason that how they are perceived is important?

IamGusFring · 11/12/2021 09:46

@mathanxiety

Well Barbados has recently dropped out. It may well be that this will become a trend.
I think you are a bit behind the times with your Commonwealth knowledge .
hygtt · 11/12/2021 09:49

I’m thinking adultery isn’t the worst thing a head of state can do.

I agree but I'm not sure anyone has claimed it is.

It's certainly not a fast trek route to popularity though, looking at recent history.

oneglassandpuzzled · 11/12/2021 09:52

Yes, Barbados is still in the Commonwealth.

CounsellorTroi · 11/12/2021 10:02

There’s something about Charlotte. She looks sensible and determined and no nonsense. Interesting. I agree with a pp that she might jump over the wall in future.

Maybe she takes after Great Aunt Anne!

How do you feel about support for paedophiles ... ?

Aspiringmatriarch · 11/12/2021 10:17

Can you imagine the outcry if it had been the other two ??

Harry and Meghan pose on GOLD seats on luxury trip to Middle East as millions of Brits spend their second year separated from family.

A very woke Christmas? Jordan's human rights abuses don't trouble the grinning royals.

Etc etc

IamGusFring · 11/12/2021 10:21

It must just be me but practically every Tom, Dick and Harry I know have been abroad at some point now .

High bars we're setting here

I'm more concerned about the adulterer being defender of the faith/the supreme governor of the CoE myself. There's an awkward/mixed message.

LookslovelyinSpringtime · 11/12/2021 10:23

Any proof he's an adulterer or just idle gossip?

BoredZelda · 11/12/2021 10:24

the point is they are Royals hence why their official xmas card has been released to the press. It's not the same as Wendy mocking up her own one & putting it on facebook. Although no one is obliged to like Wendy's version either. You can't see the difference?

You can’t see the similarity?

TheKeatingFive · 11/12/2021 10:25

Go have a google LookslovelyinSpringtime and decide for yourself.

Injunctions are an extremely helpful thing though, when trying to limit how much proof gets out there.

BoredZelda · 11/12/2021 10:30

High bars we're setting here

The vast majority of leaders have some flaw which will render them imperfect. If there is a leader who is otherwise exemplary but had an affair, I would rather that than one who fucks up a nation but only ducks his wife. There are plenty of reasons to think Charles unsuitable, adultery isn’t the worst if them by any bar.

I'm more concerned about the adulterer being defender of the faith/the supreme governor of the CoE myself. There's an awkward/mixed message.

I’m more concerned that the monarch holds that position in the first place. An outdated concept that should change.

How do you feel about support for paedophiles ... ?

If that is ever proven, that would be problematic.

hygtt · 11/12/2021 10:31

@BoredZelda between a random commoner & a member of the RF? no

BoredZelda · 11/12/2021 10:31

Another hallmark of a good conspiracy.

hygtt · 11/12/2021 10:31

just a tad

hygtt · 11/12/2021 10:33

although again that whole them not been like us means Andrew has a slightly different relationship with the justice system.

TheKeatingFive · 11/12/2021 10:33

Another hallmark of a good conspiracy.

So no one ever took out an injunction then, hmm?

TheKeatingFive · 11/12/2021 10:37

The vast majority of leaders have some flaw which will render them imperfect.

The vast majority of those leaders are voted in. Which means that the public gets a say over how important their flaws are in the overall package. Yet we're supposed to accept Charlie and Wills superiority over us because of what? Blood? Divine ordination? I can honestly never understand wtf people put up with it.

I’m more concerned that the monarch holds that position in the first place. An outdated concept that should change.

We agree on that at least.

thamesriviera · 11/12/2021 10:37

@HoyaSaxa

I thought it was poor. I don’t mind them at all but it was not very Christmas-y and I am Jealous of anyone who has managed to go in an exotic and sunny holiday here.

Surely a nice photo of the family romping about pink-cheeked and tweedy in Norfolk would have been much better?

Jordan's a lot closer to bethlehem than most other places on earth. ..
hygtt · 11/12/2021 10:38

@TheKeatingFive it's mind boggling

Sd352 · 11/12/2021 10:46

Their Christmas cards are often not winter photos. The location does feel a bit tone deaf given it was a private holiday (which they are absolutely entitled to have), and not an official tour (while Charles and Camilla were just on official tour in Jordan and visited the baptismal site, which would have been a rather more Christmas-y photo). Not sure why everyone has taken against the gold pouffe though, I quite like it!

Puzzledandpissedoff · 11/12/2021 10:53

Errr - Charles's support has been proven, which is why he was officially criticised for it in the IICSA report

Naturally he claimed afterwards that he was fooled like so many others, but that doesn't explain his various letters bemoaning Ball's treatment, yet allegedly not knowing, or trying to find out, how that treatment arose

Piglet89 · 11/12/2021 10:55

I find it really weird how none of their kids really looks like either of them.

Roussette · 11/12/2021 10:58

I think Charlotte is the spit of Kate. Louis is Pa Middleton through and through as a PP said. George not sure. His dad probably
