to think William and Kate's Christmascard this year was badly judged?

So not only has William been hectoring us about climate change and sustainable travel, but there's been a pandemic which has been a pandemic which for many people has been financially devastating, and for most of us a holiday seems a distant pipe dream. So this year of all years they have chosen a photo of themselves all looking tanned and relaxed on a (presumably free) holiday. Just feels a tad ill judged?

Lovely picture 👍🏻

Myrrhis · 11/12/2021 00:11

Could do with Kate having a normal smile instead of her OH EVERYTHING IS HILARIOUS! Rictus grin plastered on

That’s what it is!

She has a beautiful smile with perfect teeth but it only has one wattage, applied everywhere so whenever I see it, I think: surely making small talk with a bunch of obsequious strangers in front of a dreary municipal building while being photographed can’t be that much fun.

Redsquirrel5 · 11/12/2021 00:17

Considering our early snow I would have preferred a picture of them having a snowball fight. Much more Christmassy!

Waspsarearseholes · 11/12/2021 00:31

@JumparooSavedMyLife

Didn't they go to Greece in half term too? Our 1 and only holiday abroad this year was cancelled again, we haven't been abroad since 2019. They're pretty tone deaf really arent they? I mean I've still not worked out what purpose these people serve? Why we must have their holiday snap rubbed in our faces I'm not sure? Some Christmas hats on stood in their garden would have been far better, if they must!
Good grief, you talk about tone deaf? You haven't been abroad since 2019, so two years? Thoughts and prayers to you and the insufferable two years you must've had only being able to holiday in the UK during the pandemic. Who do you want to play you in the film?
SkiingIsHeaven · 11/12/2021 00:31

Leave them alone.

Look at something else if you are not happy.

What happened to all the "be kind" bullshit?

StoneofDestiny · 11/12/2021 00:37

The whole idea of a royal family, paid by taxpayers to 'reign over us' and live in complete luxury is ridiculous and ill judged. No surprise they post a family picture of themselves on a luxury holiday in a country with an abominable human rights record. They have no shame if they think that is a suitable place to promote.

madisonbridges · 11/12/2021 00:39

Blimey. They dared to take their kids on holiday and then took a picture of them smiling. The nerve of them ! 🙄

Waspsarearseholes · 11/12/2021 00:41

People seem to think that they live a life of luxury, which of course they do, but at what cost? What does this family cost each of us? There is not enough money in the world to make their lifestyle worth it to me. I want to go to sleep every night knowing my children are safe. I want to wake up every morning knowing my children are safe. I want my children to be able to go to school without a security unit around them. I want my kids to be so beautifully anonymous that they can go to their classmates' parties and sleepovers. I want to be be able to go shopping or to McDonald's with my children. I want to have the same concerns every parents have about their children, not the added concerns that being royal brings. I want to be able to meet my friends for a drink when I want to. I want to be able to eat or drink too much when I want to. I want to be able to choose with whom I socialise and wear leggings while I do it, if I so wish. I honestly wouldn't want their life for all the money in the world. My kids mean more to me than that. So let them have those concerns and worries while I get on with my completely ordinary life. I don't envy anything of theirs.

madisonbridges · 11/12/2021 00:42

It's not ill-judged. It's a constitutional monarchy. It's not their fault that the majority of the country want to keep the Queen.

Thought the same thing.

Frigging omicron shenanigans and they're in fucking Jordan with a tan?

Give me a break.

worriedatthemoment · 11/12/2021 00:54

They aren't the only people who went away , it was allowed

hygtt · 11/12/2021 00:54

I think the whole pandemic made them quite irrelevant as it highlighted how un relatable the RF are. This is not helping

hygtt · 11/12/2021 00:57

The Queen is popular. The rest? not so much

DistrustfulDinosaur · 11/12/2021 00:58

Meh I've travelled abroad twice in my 37 years on this earth and have precisley zero interest in doing so. If I want to look tanned I fake it. My idea of a 'holiday' is happily living permanently a quarter of a mile away from the nearest away from my neighbour, but Covid wfh has vastly pushed up house prices in my area out of my reach.

IamGusFring · 11/12/2021 01:00

@SarahBellam

He looks like he’s pushing out a huge golden shite.
I think it's been air brushed for modesty 😂

Er no, it doesn't work like that. "Engage brain" is more useful.

TooBigForMyBoots · 11/12/2021 01:13

If that is the best picture they could use for a Christmas card, out of all the pictures taken of them in the last 12months,Xmas Shock something is not working right in the Cambridge household.Xmas Confused

RavingAnnie · 11/12/2021 01:28

The only problem I have with that photo is it's not very Christmassy.

I know loads of people who have been on holiday in the last 18 months so it's not odd really.

Lovelyricepudding · 11/12/2021 01:46

Those saying it is not very Christmassy forget where Bethlehem is (less than 50 miles from Amman)!

TooBigForMyBoots · 11/12/2021 01:47
@PriamFarrl Jordan is where Bethlehem is located...
No it isn't. Bethlehem as a PP said, is in Palestine.

There is nothing Christmassy about this photo.

There is nothing joyous about this photo.
There is nothing contemporary about this photo.

There is nothing for people to relate to. I love an aul Christmas card, but why the fuck would anyone want to display a photo of an extremely rich family on holiday, on their mantelpiece?Xmas Confused

It's a very crowded time for mantelpieces atm.

TimeFlysWhenYoureHavingRum · 11/12/2021 02:24

When the Queen passes we need a referendum on becoming a Republic. Its only a matter of time and "King" Charles will not help their cause.

cabingirl · 11/12/2021 02:37

All of the 'get rid of the monarchy people' you realise that the actual Windsor family have masses of personal wealth, and land and property not connected to the crown land etc.

Dump this family and they will be ecstatic enjoying their lives without any boring public duties. The amount of money they get from 'us' basically pays for the upkeep of the crown estates (will still need money in a Republic to preserve the historical sites), public duties and government sanctioned diplomatic hosting and travel ( will still need paying for to an elected head of state) - as a people we won't gain anything, in fact will probably cost a fortune in taxes to make the transition and then we'll have someone like Boris or Tony Blair to pay for as Head of State.

Fair enough if that's what the majority want but don't pretend that there will be any less of a cost to the public - will probably cost a lot more for a long time (transition costs and new systems) or that the people elected to Head of State will be worth it - it will be someone like Boris, or Blair, or David Cameron.

The Windsors will retreat to their various personal estates - Sandringham, Balmoral, Highgrove etc and just enjoy being rich people with no responsibilities.

TooBigForMyBoots · 11/12/2021 02:43

@Tricked2003

They can't win whatever they do!!! I can't get worked up over this.... they went on holiday when it was permitted and took a nice family photo.
What do you mean they can't win?Xmas Confused They're extremely wealthy and he's going to be the King of England. They have already won.🏅🏅🏅
