Presents for 3mo?

mancarose · 09/12/2021 23:34

Just generally wondering if any of you would get any Christmas presents for your 3 mo?? I honestly don't see the point as he won't remember and all extended family will be getting him something, so I might aswell put that money into an isa for him?? Or AIBU and should I still buy him stuff

I would just buy him a little teddy as a keepsake of his first Christmas, no need to spend any more than that.

JingleJangler · 09/12/2021 23:38

a Gameboy

Peakypolly · 09/12/2021 23:45

I had a 5 day old on Christmas Day. I had to (and wanted to) do a stocking because the other DC present would have been confused as to why Santa missed out LO. I just filled it with things I had bought anyway; cute baby vests, socks, the odd teether etc.

Changethetoner · 09/12/2021 23:48

A bauble for the tree "Baby's first Christmas 2021".

Hollywolly1 · 09/12/2021 23:49

My granddaughter was born second week of December…a bauble on the tree was enough and lots of lovely presents for her Mummy and shifts so that Mummy got lots of sleep!!

DoucheCanoe · 09/12/2021 23:53

I would if you have older kids just so they aren't wondering why Santa forgot their sibling, otherwise I'd probably just get something practical like a high chair or a play mat to make me feel like I'd bought something then put money away.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 09/12/2021 23:53

First Christmas is for the parents. We got our DD a wooden Nativity set, an elf onesie and a book.

We still use the Nativity set every Christmas and shes 10 now.

ABCeasyasdohrayme · 09/12/2021 23:55

My ds (now 20) was 3 months old on his first Christmas.

I spent over £1000, wrapped everything up in matching paper and bows, and he just lay there sleeping and crying and popping while I unwrapped them all again.

Lesson learned for my other dc who got a teddy and some clothes or whatever they actually needed.

Anything more than that is pointless.

AprilDaffodils · 10/12/2021 00:05

Some of the presents ideas are lovely, but maybe also I’d write him a letter and keep it for him to see when he’s older. How you feel about his arrival, how much he means to you, that sort of thing.

Peanutmnm · 10/12/2021 00:08

A jellycat
Bauble or tree decoration (check Etsy)
Cute Christmas babygro
Shaun the sheep
Hat and blanket

Kite22 · 10/12/2021 00:11

If they are an only, then, like you, I would put some money into Premium Bonds or an ISA for them.

If they have older siblings then I would make sure they had some bits to open so siblings didn't think Father Christmas had forgotten them.

Rachie1973 · 10/12/2021 00:15

I’d buy very little. We had a 3 month old last Christmas. Got a stacker and a teddy and some clothes.

We put some money away to buy some bits at each developmental stage, as it changes so quickly in that first year

Glowmaintenance · 10/12/2021 03:57

We have a 3 month old this Christmas and won't be buying anything.

We're letting the toddler wrap some of the old baby toys to put under the tree for the baby to teach them about giving but there's no way I'll be wasting money on a tiny baby.

Carbis · 10/12/2021 04:03

I’m going to wrap up some of DS1’s old toys for DS2 as well. I’ve actually bought him a new pram toy as well though as DS1’s wasn’t very good. I would have bought that anyway though.

I think family will probably buy him clothes.

beginnerwitch · 10/12/2021 04:12

My baby will be almost 3 months old at Christmas. I've got him a bubble machine and light projector which he loves at his baby group and a stocking full of bits like muslins, vests and useful bits I'd get him anyway. I know he won't care but I do and can't bear to give nothing.

Garman · 10/12/2021 04:35

What the hell is with the people suggesting computer games for a 3mo? 🤔

SecondhandTable · 10/12/2021 04:50

Mine will be 2 months and no we aren't getting him anything from us. But we hardly spend anything on our 3.5yr old yet either tbf.

Driposaurus · 10/12/2021 04:58

I’d get a few things you’d be buying anything - before you know it, weaning will be upon you so a cutlery set, or baby plates - that sort of thing. But if there are older children you definitely need something that feels like they’re being treated equally.

Sceptre86 · 10/12/2021 06:43

I have a 3 month old and she has some sensory toys, books, a first weaning set for when she is 6 months and a laugh and learn teddy.

yikesanotherbooboo · 10/12/2021 06:52

I didn't for my 4 week old but bought a little teddy for 6 months olds for the sake of older DC.

Caspianberg · 10/12/2021 06:56

I couldn’t not get them anything. It’s Christmas. No need to go crazy, but there’s always something they need at every age.

Ds was 7 months last Christmas, and still had little stocking of bits he still uses daily a year later, so they weren’t a ‘waste’ at all.

RedWingBoots · 10/12/2021 07:01

I got:

  • a rattle which is a ball
  • teething keys
  • some clothes
for my DD's first Christmas.

Other people gave her:

  • a rattle which is a ball
  • teething keys
  • pram toys
  • clothes
  • books

3 years later she still has and uses the rattles, pram toys (though not on a pram) and books plus one really nice outfit a neighbour gave in a keepsake box.

110APiccadilly · 10/12/2021 07:01

My DD was 1 month last Christmas. A friend pointed out (when I said I didn't know what I could get her) that while she wasn't into toys at the time, she would be over the course of the next year. So I bought her a couple of toys aimed at the 6 to 10 month mark, which she's enjoyed over the last 6(ish) months. Buying them for Christmas rather than when she grew into them just meant I had something to wrap up for her!
