Boss wants people to arrange booster jab for a Friday

DP had just come home and the owner of the company he works for has suggested that staff should only be arranging booster jabs for a Friday after work so that if they suffer side effects they won't need to take time off .
For context,DP had one day off after his third jab .There have been a couple of others off in the last few weeks. These are all people who would never normally take a day off and only get SSP .

AIBU to think this is a shocking way to treat people who are trying to do the right thing ?

Appalling. Way to go to get employee loyalty.

ditavonteesed · 07/12/2021 18:05

Seems sensible to me, I had mine when I had a couple of days off. Can't think why you wouldn't,

Cheerbear24 · 07/12/2021 18:06

I think it’s sensible 🤷‍♀️ it’s what I did (without being asked) as I expected to feel rough.

Aderyn21 · 07/12/2021 18:07

Personally I'd take my jab when it was offered. Sod the boss!

NeverEnoughCake2 · 07/12/2021 18:07

Well, my experience was that I booked my booster just after age 40+ were invited, and the first appointment I could get was just before Christmas. I certainly wasn't going to quibble about what day of the week it was! Also, many public health teams are focusing on arranging booster sessions at weekends, recognising that they're targeting people of working age. Therefore, I suspect your DH's boss is on a hiding to nothing - his staff will have to take what appointments they can get.

Our local walk-in vaccination centre is currently reaching daily capacity before 10am, so going to a walk-in centre on a Friday afternoon isn't going to work either (unless your DH's boss wants to give them Friday morning off to queue up!)

Josette77 · 07/12/2021 18:08

This seems practical. I did yhe the same.

gamerchick · 07/12/2021 18:09

I got all mine when I wasnt at work the next day. It's sensible tbh.

GreatBigBeautifulTommorow · 07/12/2021 18:09

My team and I all booked ours for when we had a few days off so we didn’t impact the service we provide.

ThisIsNotARealAvo · 07/12/2021 18:10

I work in a school and most people did this. If there's a chance you will need a day off why should you put everyone else out by not being in on a school day? Medical appointments should be made outside of working hours where possible - hospital appointments can't be moved but with a vaccine you get a choice of slots.

unfortunateevents · 07/12/2021 18:10

Great if you can pick and choose your appointments like that! Where I live people are still struggling to book any appointment at all! So if you log on for the umpteenth time and are offered any appointment (which in many cases isn't even close to home) you grab it! The idea of picking and choosing around here is simply laughable.

gettingolderandgrumpy · 07/12/2021 18:11

Why is it appalling? I think its sensible you have the jab then if you feel unwell the next day at least your not in work .

alexdgr8 · 07/12/2021 18:11

what's wrong with that.
sensible planning. why wouldn't you/partner co-operate with reasonable request of employer.
being flexible goes both ways.

If all employers did that, how long do you think it will take to vaccinate the population?

"only get a vaccine after work, on a friday" So no, a very stupid suggestion.

Get your booster as when you can and as soon as possible, side effects (requiring time off work) are extremely rare.

Luredbyapomegranate · 07/12/2021 18:12

It’s sensible isn’t it? Of course if it doesn’t suit you or you can’t you can say so.

Whaleandsnail6 · 07/12/2021 18:13

I think it's sensible if there is availability to have the jab on a Friday.

I work nights and, knowing how rough I felt after my other jabs, I have booked my booster for when I have a couple of nights off in case I don't feel up to working after.

Sirzy · 07/12/2021 18:14

DP drives for a living. He booked his booster for a Saturday morning so he knew he would be fit for work.

I booked DS first vaccine for a Saturday morning so he wouldn’t need to miss a day school to recover.

Seems sensible if at all possible

LegoPandemic · 07/12/2021 18:15

Everyone can’t have Friday afternoons though- there aren’t enough of them. I would suggest a middle ground of any time on Friday with paid time off. Side effects won’t kick in until Saturday.

Bibbtybobbityboo · 07/12/2021 18:15

What if you delay you're jab for a Friday and then get Covid hardly sensible.

Bibbtybobbityboo · 07/12/2021 18:16

Your!

Switch82 · 07/12/2021 18:16

I did this as did my DH - in fact he did one week I the next around our work and the kids! Glad I did I was knocked out for the weekend!

OhWhyNot · 07/12/2021 18:16

We do this at work as staff are on seven day rota we try to book their time off the day after

Seems sensible no one has moaned

I work Monday-Friday and have had my boosters the day before a planned day off

Pixiedust138 · 07/12/2021 18:17

It's a health thing, not a work thing. I think booking on a Friday is sensible. If I was having a medical procedure and had the choice of a Monday or Friday I'd pick the Friday so that I had days to rest after. The thing thing to me

thewhatsit · 07/12/2021 18:19

Yes, just like when I had dental surgery some years a go I planned it for a Friday to minimise time off work. I don’t think it’s particularly shocking.
Whitefire · 07/12/2021 18:20

If only it was that easy to book such a specific slot, you take what there is.

I have only had a sore arm after my booster, though if you need to be lifting your arm above shoulder level this could be restrictive.

freshcarnation · 07/12/2021 18:20

Good idea. Same for flu jab. Both should be fine but just in case..
