Taking DD to see Six at the weekend (Vaudeville Theatre) but understand it's not a theatre that mandates masks.

So, if you've been to the West End theatre lately, what was the mask wearing like?

Thanks all, really appreciate it

@veryouting2021

Went to see Hamilton the weekend before last. Masks worn by almost everyone, mandated, from stepping into the building to stepping out again after the show.

Have been to see Katherine Ryan stand up recently and masks only when walking around.

Off to see Hamilton (hopefully) in January, so relieved to see this. Thank you :)

We went Saturday before last. No one was wearing them.

I think that was before they were made compulsory on transport and in shops though.

Malteser71 · 06/12/2021 20:45

I’ve actually cancelled a west end show because I really don’t enjoy wearing masks.

I’ll go in the future when they admit they make little difference

D1ngledanglers · 06/12/2021 20:52

Was at a show in Covent Garden on Saturday. Mask & covid pass / negative LFT to get in.
Majority not wearing masks whilst seated but mostly wore them to move around. All staff wearing masks.
Have a great time x

Titsywoo · 06/12/2021 20:53

I have been twice in the last month and noone was wearing masks

Hunderland · 06/12/2021 20:57

I've just been to Tesco and no-one except me and staff was wearing one...

Martinisarebetterdirty · 06/12/2021 21:01

About half the adults at Frozen the weekend before last but hardly anyone at Richmond on Sunday.

WellLarDeDar · 06/12/2021 21:03

Ooh I saw six recently and it was amazing! No one was wearing masks.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 06/12/2021 21:12

DH and I saw Macbeth at the Almeida (so small theatre)
Signs everywhere saying to wear masks but no one did once sitting.
A handful I'd say. We were on an aisle by an open door.
DH tested positive a few days later-luckily a light case as dbl jabbed and had had his booster a few days before but that's the only place we'd been so strongly suspect that's where he picked it up.
I have been absolutely fine.

Mybalconyiscracking · 06/12/2021 21:16

If you sit for two hours with a couple of hundred people, packed into seats that are actually touching, with minimum ventilation, what actual difference do you think masks are going to make?

ShowOfHands · 06/12/2021 21:17

I went to Hamilton a couple of months ago (wearing my Hamilton mask!) and almost nobody wore a mask but sounds like they've started enforcing it.

Minibea · 06/12/2021 21:18

Saw Frozen 10 days ago and saw v few masks

PicnicPie · 06/12/2021 21:22

I went twice in October half term, no masks then but imagine might be different now given Omicron.

buckeejit · 06/12/2021 21:23

Everyone almost in Belfast for six last month. It's a short show though

Bootikin · 06/12/2021 21:24

It is not clear if you want to wear a mask or not but FFS wear one. There is nothing else to say, just do it.

rookiemere · 06/12/2021 21:26

I was in London in November. I saw The Mirror and the Light - most people wearing masks, and Cabaret- practically nobody because of the included drink provided and I certainly felt I could relax a bit more with everyone having taken a LFT in advance. Amazing production by the way - do go if you can, there's often seats available on the day ( possibly because of the LFT requirement).

CaliforniaDrumming · 06/12/2021 21:29

@rookiemere I had tickets for The Mirror and the Light, and it was the day of the tube strike, and I could not get there in time :( Gutted to hear it was great. It stopped playing at the end of November.

Glassyellowbottle · 06/12/2021 21:33

I do! Of course, I do.

@CaliforniaDrumming The Mirror and The Light was indeed excellent. I hadn't realised that the other two books had been made into theatre productions, but apparently they were even better.

grapewine · 06/12/2021 22:36

@Gearedtoyou I saw it when I was over. Really enjoyed it. Very funny in places and looked like the cast was having fun, which is always a plus.

Mybalconyiscracking · 06/12/2021 22:41

If you are concerned about catching COVID, don’t go to the theatre, it’s not hard!

NCkitchen · 06/12/2021 23:51

Went last week. Had to wear to enter ut then could take off when seated in theatre

Had to wear in shops but not pubs

WhiteSandyBeach · 07/12/2021 00:31

Off topic really but I really want to see Cabaret after reading this thread!

allbartwo · 07/12/2021 01:07

Agreed. Or wear a proper mask, a pretty bit of cloth with some elastic on is not doing a lot!

(Had a great mask free weekend including theatre trip in London last week, pre latest panic)
