Safe to put my dressing gown in 12mo cot?

My just turned 1yo is generally a poor sleeper, but the past couple of nights he's been up every 45 minutes. Tonight I've already been in 7 times. He just wants held, I gave him a feed at 10 so he's not hungry. I'm wondering if it would be safe to put my dressing gown (with cord removed) in the cot with him incase that helps him sleep?
Some websites I've read said 12 months is fine for soft toys and other bedding / pillows but others said 18 months.
I don't want / need tips on his sleep in general or to be told to co-sleep. I guarantee I've read everything there is to read about infant sleep, my older son is an excellent sleeper and has been since he was a baby and co-sleeping is not something we want to do.

A dressing gown seems a bit big to be safe, is there something smaller of yours you could use instead?

Musicalmaestro · 05/12/2021 23:36

How does he get to sleep in the first place? If you hold/rock him to sleep you need to address that.
I wouldn't risk putting your dressing gown in his cot.

Agree - do you not have a cot blanket you can put in? Seems an odd choice of thing to put in the cot.

I did think it might be too big. I think he likes the material though. Maybe I'll cut it up Grin

Seems a bit big. Could you put a t shirt or other top in?

Sciurus83 · 05/12/2021 23:37

I wouldn't, something smaller, cut it up

shouldistop · 05/12/2021 23:38

@Warmduscher he's in a sleeping bag. It's because it smells of me and he seems to like rubbing his face on the material.

@Musicalmaestro he can self settle. I did say I wasn't looking for tips on infant sleep Grin

I wouldn’t, because of the size and weight and the arms.

I think I will just cut it up. Treat myself to a new one tomorrow Grin

Definitely do not put it in.
If he likes the feel of it, cut out a small section for him.

EmeraldShamrock · 05/12/2021 23:42

I wouldn't.
He could get his head stuck in the arm fold.
Would a hot water bottle in a fluffy pillow case comfort him? Warm not hot water?

shouldistop · 05/12/2021 23:42

Right, getting the scissors out. Better be worth it, i like this dressing gown.

Don't there might be loose threads if the edge is uneven.
If you don't want to co-sleep, controlled crying is your best bet.
I didn't do it but regretted not trying it.

recededpronunciation · 05/12/2021 23:52

Wrap the top end of it including the sleeves under the bottom end of his mattress, with his toes at the bottom of the cot, so that the bottom of the dressing gown is effectively like a short blanket.

SRS29 · 06/12/2021 00:13

OP I've always worn scarves and my DD's generally took them to bed to snuggle with....😊

ThePlumVan · 06/12/2021 00:17

Definitely worth cutting it up over - anything for a nights sleep !
Hope it works.

Hemingwayscatz · 06/12/2021 00:21

I always remember my best friend’s little brother used to carry a section of one of his Mum’s old nightgowns everywhere. He liked the fact the cotton had gone all bobbly and would sit rubbing it.

Some kids get comfort from odd places so yeah, just cut a section off as a comforter.

Marvellousmadness · 06/12/2021 00:21

No and no
Too big
And if you cut it up it might have loose threads

And you already said it: he wants to be held!he doesnt want your robe op :)

Mudflaps · 06/12/2021 01:41

Cut it up and good luck. Almost 30 years ago I cut up my nightie for the same reason, my dc just loved to rub it against his face when going to sleep. We ended up with bits of that nightie everywhere, buggies, cars, caravan, friends houses, handbags, changing bags, it was like having a small portable little charm that soothed him when he needed it, hope it works for you. (My dm used to say my ds would have a fondness for women in silky undies as a result!!)

Can you not put a Muslim down your top for a while? That would transfer your scent.

AlwaysLatte · 06/12/2021 02:10

Omg muslin not muslim! I honestly did not type that!!!!

Best/worst autocorrect ever 😂😂
DartmoorChef · 06/12/2021 02:23

If you cut it up save the rest of the material to use at a future date or maybe make it into a little pillow.
