To cancel last minute

AIBU to cancel xmas plans out with friends later today? Had an extremely busy day yesterday and I've woken up with a bit of a cold and slight sore throat (lateral flow negative) and I've got a really busy week at work ahead. All I want to do is sit on the sofa in my pyjamas.

I didn't get any of the main symptoms when I got my positive PCR it was just like a mild cold. Only tested because work insisted. The current cold going around felt worse but either way I would prefer a friend to cancel than spread their germs.

@Sirzy

I would be a bit pissed off if a friend cancelled just because they had over planned themselves and I was the disposable part of the plan.
Yep totally this. Dose up with paracetamol and go - you’ll either feel better as you’re distracted or feel rougher and so then just duck out early. But to pull out because you want to veg in your pjs is poor
toomuchlaundry · 05/12/2021 09:44

How would you feel if a friend met up with you with ‘just a cold’ and passed it on to you and it turned out to be COVID?

CloudyStorms · 05/12/2021 09:46

@user1496146479 she doesn't gave symptoms that qualify her for a pcr test

TractorAndHeadphones · 05/12/2021 09:46

You have a cold stay home ffs dont understand the replies

godmum56 · 05/12/2021 09:46

Round here there is the mother of all colds going around and turning into chest infections. My never stays off work sick, never cancels anything friend cancelled me because her grown up son had it and now she has it and is barking like a seal. I'd be glad that you hadn't shown up with your germs and if it was me with the germs, I'd cancel

TractorAndHeadphones · 05/12/2021 09:46

*good to stay home I meant
@user1496146479 she doesn't gave symptoms that qualify her for a pcr test
The UK is one of the few countries not to have updated the list of symptoms to include the most common Delta variant symptoms.
They just saw that they accept that people have can 'have more wide & variant symptoms' but don't list them.
For the sake of a quick test, surely it better to sure?
Even going by the comments on this thread alone, lots have tested positive based on the more wider accepted Delta symptoms - the typical cold ones, sniffle, scratchy/sore throat, headaches etc

@Warmduscher

We got together with friends last night and I’ve got the beginnings of what feels like just a normal cold, so I messaged them to ask if they were ok with us still coming - they were.

Why not do this? Unless you actually don’t want to go anyway?

Oh my god. That's how it starts for SO many people for goodness sake. How irresponsible can you be? And how is it STILL possible people don't know what to do after all this time?
amsadandconfused · 05/12/2021 09:55

I have op problem. Am supposed to be going to theatre this evening with bestie and we are still waiting for PCR results for husband who had an inconclusive result on Thursday…am really stressed that my friend could be cancelled last minute. She is fine about it but I feel sooo bad for her . Do an LFT for starters and put friends in the picture and it can be their call whether you go or not.

I'd just see it as one of those things, tbh.

But then I don't think life needs to come to a standstill because someone has a bit of a sore throat.

CloudyStorms · 05/12/2021 10:03

@user1496146479 I see. Then that is incredibly short sighted of our government.

CloudyStorms · 05/12/2021 10:04

@Fallingtopieces34

I'm going to message and let them know how I'm feeling and say if they'd rather I didn't come with my germs then that is fine (they are an honest bunch)! I actually hate cancelling plans normally that is why I posted.
That's fine as long as you go if they say it's fine.
Gigia · 05/12/2021 10:14

I would prefer you cancelled than potentially pass on a cold and also it will be no fun for you if you feel ill.

Restart10 · 05/12/2021 10:19

We very rarely make plans on a Sunday with friends or anyone. Weeks are just so busy, I know that I am never in the mood for a meet up on a Sunday. Sunday is for family stuff, getting reading for the week ahead, meal prep. I'm very boring, I know. I do think however, op you should go if you genuinely feel up to it.

Couchbettato · 05/12/2021 10:37

I would tell your friends youve woken up with cold symptoms, sore throat etc, but no cough, fever, loss of taste or smell etc and ask if they are still ok with you coming, and totally understand if they don't want to take the risk this close to Christmas.

Chances are someone will say no they're not comfortable, which means you can avoid the plans, but also you've not just flounced, you've had a real discussion with friends about it.

glitterelf · 05/12/2021 10:55

You don't feel well so cancelling is the right thing to do. Those moaning about others cancelling will be the same ones who'd be quick to moan that they've caught xyz off a selfish friend who came out when unwell.

BlueTouchPaper · 05/12/2021 11:37

My daughter had this cold/virus a week ago and it wiped her out so probably got that to come. Hope you feel better soon

Do and I've both had a cold that's doing the rounds and still feel drained 3 weeks later. Pcr negative. Yanbu

“You people”?

You know we are all individuals and that there is a mixture of responses on this thread?

You know how to read something properly and understand it? If you did, you'd have read my comment and understood that I am referring to those who want to go out for the day with a sick person. I thought it was fairly obvious..
