For me I was lucky to work during lockdown and have saved so much money

Hope this post doesn't offend anyone

I work from home full time now. It has been transformative, life- changing. I absolutely love it.

As an introvert with very low tolerance to noise and crowds, I now realise the absolute hell I lived five days a week, commuting to, and working in offices - for decades. Constant low level stress. My health now, both physically and mentally, has never been better.

Whereas I was planning to retire at the earliest opportunity, I can now contemplate going on a bit longer.

Just hoping with all my heart that the current arrangement can continue.

pinkstripeycat · 05/12/2021 06:49

I got to spend time with my children.
We can’t afford to pay our bills as I didn’t get paid due to being self employed and are playing catch up paying loans we took out to be able to live.
Local council say I’m not entitled to a help payment for the 10 days of isolation due to covid this Nov as I earn too much. That’s the point, I was in isolation so couldn’t earn and my tax return from last year doesn’t prove accurate earnings because I wasn’t allowed to work through 7 months of lockdowns

Justheretoaskaquestion91 · 05/12/2021 06:52

Had my husband at home with us for a whole year ❤️

whiteroseredrose · 05/12/2021 06:54

Like others the joys of working from home.

I now have to go on once or twice a fortnight and hate each time. The constant background noise and people wandering around yakking on.

I clear nearly twice as many cases a day at home than I do on office days.

I was heartbroken that my DC missed out on a social life for so long but we discovered that as a family we could get along really well even if we are all stuck together constantly.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 05/12/2021 06:58

I gained perspective, quit my job and found another which I love. I moved to a new area because of that. Life is defo better this side of COVID than it was at the end of 2019.

That said I had my baby in March 2020, and lost my entire maternity leave to the 1st lockdown. That was tough.

Noluthando · 05/12/2021 06:59

Yep. Our team learned the value of video consultations, and meetings each morning which I think we will probably keep some aspects of.

My husband was furloughed and realised how much he was missing out on seeing the children with his job so moved to a more family friendly job.

I think a lot of people have realised the value of social interaction and how much we took for granted before covid.

Nocaloriesinchocolate · 05/12/2021 08:07

Reconnected with a cousin I’d lost contact with 20+ years ago, and through him with other cousins

Avarua · 05/12/2021 08:10

I got a lockdown dog.
Best decision ever Smile

londonrach · 05/12/2021 08:14

DH and I have finally managed to get all our debts caused by the boiler exploding five years ago paid off and achieved more DIY than we ever do on the house. I'm also less stressed as childcare Problem s forced me to leave my NHS job. I've learnt who are real friends.

justaskingagain · 05/12/2021 08:16

Relationships with my neighbours on my street. We have coffee/ drinks gatherings when we're around/ weather permitting. Barely knew most of them before.

montysma1 · 05/12/2021 08:17

We enjoyed everything about it. I mean my self employed husband fell between the cracks and got no financial assustance at all so we were utterly skint. Still enjoyed the peace and the time though.

DialsMavis · 05/12/2021 08:18

Gained 1.5 stone, lost 3 stone, found a love of exercise, sorted out emotional eating and drinking.... Until this week as isolating and mid house renovation.... its all gone tits up! Had a negative pcr now & can use some of downstairs, so need to get my trainers on and my weights out before i spiral

BeautifulTulips · 05/12/2021 08:19

Obviously lots of negatives, but one positive is that we got a puppy!

Yes we were those dreadful people that are bought a lockdown puppy and that was our best decision Smile. Both working from home during lockdown meant that we had time to train him properly, DH still works mostly from home and we have a dog walker so that he gets exercise each morning, then in the evening we take him out together. Prior to lockdown we had tried to get a dog from a rescue place, but because we worked we didn't qualify... Love our little four legged friend so much

Nanny67 · 05/12/2021 08:19

nocalories same here

Yes. I was able to work from home and therefore though I returned from maternity leave early got the benefit of still being around (albeit working)
Twopenny · 05/12/2021 08:25

I think this is a sign I'm grasping at straws...because all I can think of is our taxi company's new app?! No more trying to enunciate your street name six different ways over the phone and having to dig around in your bag for an emergency tenner to pay. Now you book and pay on the app, and you can see which driver is coming to pick you up ("Azif is on the way!"), and watch their Skoda, BLUE drive towards you on a little map in real time.

Gotta take pleasure in the little things...

MamanSparkles · 05/12/2021 08:26

As a person with a disability, everything moving online opened up a whole world for me. I've joined a local committee on zoom, been able to go to webinars that would otherwise have been in person somewhere inaccessible, and watch livestreamed theatre performances.

Agadorsparticus · 05/12/2021 08:27

WFH throughout was busy and exhausting but gave me a better work/ life balance.

I passed 3 exams during lockdowns.

It gave us the push to move to a bigger house.

MrsPleasant · 05/12/2021 08:29

Very little changed for me, so it hasn't really impacted my life at all tbh. I WFH more than I used to, but that's about it.

Sunbeams09 · 05/12/2021 08:30

My youngest baby ❤️ We were saving up to cover my maternity leave (I am the main earner so we need a lot) and the lack of holidays etc meant we got what we needed about a year quicker. I’m now sat cuddling my baby that wouldn’t otherwise be here 😊

My husband also mostly WFH now which meant he saw much more of DC1 as an older baby/young toddler than he otherwise would have. Everything else has been rubbish though, and we have lost 2 family members to Covid, one of whom was under 50.

Blueuggboots · 05/12/2021 08:32

I had singing lessons. It's something I always wanted to do.

colourfulpuddles · 05/12/2021 08:32

Well DH and I loved lockdown. We got paid 80% of our wage to stay at home (we knew our jobs were secure) for months on end and do whatever we wanted 😅

Keladrythesaviour · 05/12/2021 08:33

I got to spend quality time with my DH. I was furloughed for 3 months, then on half hours for nearly a year. He began wfh, losing a 3hr round commute. We normally work different shifts - him leaving at 5.30am, and me getting in at 11pm. We've moved house which has reduced the commutes which is great now things are mostly back to normal, but he still WFH two days a week. For the first time in ten years we've actually spent decent time together and it has been wonderful. Very sad to lose it again.

Kitkatchunkyplease · 05/12/2021 08:33

My mum recently died suddenly. Lockdown therefore meant that in hindsight, my parents spent a lot more time together than they would have otherwise. (If we just ignore the fact that I therefore spend a lot LESS time with her 🤣😭)

zoemum2006 · 05/12/2021 08:34

I work in the travel/ wedding industry so it’s been awful.

My kids have done well so I try to concentrate on that as ultimately more important.
