I haven’t watched any of the footage or listened to any of the recordings. But I don’t understand how there is cctv footage from inside her house.

AIBU?

@Thefirsttime what a weird thing to write. And you sound horribly over invested. Almost.. ghoulish. Who could follow this daily for 2 months?! Ugh

Lizzy1980 · 04/12/2021 03:44

@QuickSandSickSand

I know the official excuse is to prove to SS that they weren’t hitting him but a deep dark part of me wonders if it’s actually because they relished watching him suffer.
That really doesn't bear thinking about does it but the more I hear about those two monsters the more I think that nothing about this case would surprise me now
LittlestLightOnTheXmasTree · 04/12/2021 05:20

@Pegasussnail

It's very strange to have cctv inside the home though. Rip beautiful Arthur
I have a little camera set up in my kitchen

It's just to watch the dog really, and I can talk through it as well. £30 think they are quite common

BurnedToast · 04/12/2021 05:28

What is it with all these threads about this topic? I do not understand why some of you have got so entrenched in this hideous situation that you're sat at home watching and listening to footage of this little boys suffering. Why? What does it give you? It just seems mawkish to me.

I've not watched it for months, I only heard about it this week but even the basic BBC page says why there was CCTV. It says they put it up to make sure he wasn't "misbehaving" while they weren't in the room.

I suppose people are just shocked. And re reading things and following the trial is a way of working through that shock, talking about it here is a way of trying to make sense of it - and when people can’t make sense of it they get stuck in a loop. It’s a bit like reliving things through ptsd (and I have complex ptsd through suffering child abuse myself so I recognise some of the behaviours). I don’t think we should be policing what people can or can’t post / feel. It’s a very emotive topic and it’s okay to want to talk about it.
theriverrunsthrough · 04/12/2021 08:06

They were bought because they were having issues with a neighbour so fitted them outside the house.

they had one left over so put it in the living room. I dont know if it was to watch Arther or not

I first heard about this case yesterday (I'm not sure how I've missed it for 2 months) and I was really confused about how there was cctv images in the home. Makes sense now. That poor poor boy.

Bagelsandbrie · 04/12/2021 08:11

There was another very similar case in the US - Adrian Jones- where they set up cctv all over the house to “catch him” stealing food and to relive their torment of him (he was 7 years old). They got caught out when they gave their laptop to someone to get some photos for something and the person came across the footage/ photos of Adrian and reported them. There are some truly odd and evil people in the world.

It wasn't just that, it was also used to Monitor poor Arthur apparently he had been damaging her house so they used it to watch him. As well as have evidence for herself??

OhRexy · 04/12/2021 08:16

Do you all think that maybe enough is enough with all the fucking threads about this case?

I'm sorry but some of you are treating this like a TV show you are following. I find it a little grotesque if I'm honest.

ElfontheShelfisLookingatYou · 04/12/2021 08:20

Absolutely bagels.

I wasn't abused on my person as a child but I had an extremely difficult childhood.
I actually feel a bit panicky sometimes when people seem to adamant that they want to close down talk around cases pile this.
It's so important not to hide it away. That's exactly what abusers want, they operate in shadows, under the radar etc.
Get it all out in the open and keep talking about it.
I see Arthur's club is going to honour him today and a few others.

ElfontheShelfisLookingatYou · 04/12/2021 08:22

Oh rexy, some people have been following this case since the beginning and some people have only just seen it on the news.
Of course they are going to be shocked and not understand what's gone on.
Asking why there was cctv is a perfectly reasonable question, it's not an every day thing to do.

It's the people obsessively following the trial that concern me most tbh.

I agree with others that it's ghoulish and mawkish.

This child's life and death is not here for the entertainment of true crime obsessives.

Justgorgeous · 04/12/2021 08:28

@Thefirsttime Are you for real ? Someone asks a question - you have ghoulishly followed this whole case for 2 months so you know the answer, but yet you tell them they are being unreasonable?

ElfontheShelfisLookingatYou · 04/12/2021 08:33

Oh rexy, that's your opinion and I'm sure you have a good reason for it.

I would be worried if society wasn't invested in this to be honest. We should all think and wonder how and why it happened?
I don't think brushing it away and banning talk is a good idea at all and perpetuates the myth it's rare. It's not rare.
Other adults witnessed the abuse and heard it and did nothing. They allowed him to be abused under their roofs and as a society we all need to think about that.

Of course we need to think about how to stop this happening again. That's not what's happening here though, it's weird and obsessive.

We're not going to agree but I've never been a fan of the grief porn section of the bookshop and this all feels like an extension of that.

I counted 6 threads on the active page.

Gearedtoyou · 04/12/2021 08:39

Isn't it important that people are interested and talk about it? Without public opinion nothing changes.

ElfontheShelfisLookingatYou · 04/12/2021 08:43

Again rexy that's your opinion and I'm sure you have good reason for it.
This is a chat forum, the whole UK is being told about the tragedy now so it's natural people want to talk about it.
I'd find it rather bizzare and troubling if people weren't talking about it.

As an example, as this case was going on we had a few threads with posters saying... I can't sleep at night because the children in the flat above are crying all night.
Or I can hear a child crying and being shouted out what should I do.
Many posters moaned about how awful it is to have sleep disturbed, go and tell them to shut up. Some posters told them to mind their own businesses.

Some people were begging them... Please please please for me God sake call SS!!

DrSbaitso · 04/12/2021 08:44

Perhaps they liked the idea of it being on record so the world could see and hear it.

OhRexy · 04/12/2021 08:46

@DrSbaitso

Oh yes, the world definitely needs Jackie from St Albans' opinion on why Tustin became a child killer.

I'll alert the experts.

OhRexy · 04/12/2021 08:47

I'm sorry I know that was a flippant response and I'm going to shut up now but it's making me, and others who have commented, uncomfortable.

You all get on with it.
