Ever since DS started preschool in September we haven't been able to go 2 weeks without some sort of runny nose/ cough/ cold.

I'm pregnant and seem to catch it every single time.

I know I'm being unreasonable I'm just utterly fed up with the sleepless nights the countless covid tests and feel so sorry for DS who never even had a runny nose before starting school.

Please tell me your house is the same!

It gets better. His immune system is being over run but it will build up and fight things off before you know it.

Seashor · 02/12/2021 21:28

Try being the teacher at the moment. We’re all so ill it’s ridiculous. I haven’t felt well all term; continuous cough (asthma related) and three chest infections!!!! My colleagues are exactly the same. It’s absolutely exhausting and miserable.

MrsSkylerWhite · 02/12/2021 21:30

We’re not even parents to a little one.

Grandparents. Snotty noses for the past 3 months.

It dies, eventually, get better.

GlamourBear · 02/12/2021 21:30

We've got one in school and one in nursery part time. It's never ending especially this time of year 🙈

I am sorry you are unwell but immediately jumping from an unwell three year old and pregnant woman and ‘try being the teacher’ is just ridiculous.

It does. I promise.

I’m pregnant too and finding it hard to cope with the illnesses my kids are constantly giving me as it sparks off my morning sickness again.
They even gave me a sickness bug last week. Ugh, looking forward to half term 🤯

Secondary school is worse. 2 day rule doesn't apply for d&v. Dd was sick before school. They wanted her in at lunch time... Same dd got d&v twice in 2 weeks as it went round and back again.
Then wanted us in for a non attendance meeting... Or referred to council for a fine!
I kid you not.

Minniem2020 · 02/12/2021 22:02

I know how you feel op. We had covid in August and since then it feels like someone in the house has been poorly. Mostly my 3 year old and as he is very clingy with me at the moment I'm getting everything too (I'm also pregnant). This week hes had a nasty sickness bug, it's awful to see him so poorly

PrivateHall · 02/12/2021 22:10

Urgh I remember this phase well, it was bad enough without the added misery of covid testing. Unfortunately your immune system is reduced due to pregnancy so you will catch it all too. It is crap but normal unfortunately op Flowers

womaninatightspot · 02/12/2021 22:12

I think with lockdown everyones immune system is lower but it's really not that unusual for younger kids to drift from one snotty bug to another October to March.

HelplesslyHoping · 02/12/2021 22:23

It'll get worse when he's at school!

WeBurnedSoBrightWeBurnedOut · 02/12/2021 22:25

We have 2 DC and their bugs are like a relay, one gets ill, down for a weekish, passes the batton to the other, down for a weekish, rinse and repeat.

Lockdown definitely hasn't helped their immune systems.

You have got to be joking .

I'd be emailing my mp.

Contacting locks public health as well

IncessantNameChanger · 03/12/2021 00:11

If it's any comfort my pfb was constantly sick for 12m when he started nursery. Two hospital admissions for suspected meningitis included. He was passing out, throwing up, burning up, oozing snot etc for a year! Then by two ish he has never been ill since.

Rock solid immunity from the nursery sesspit of germs now. This too will pass as the saying goes. Just so much worse with a pandemic thrown in of course

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 03/12/2021 00:46

Had Ds (7) in and out of school with colds and stomach bugs all month. Been a nightmare. Not pregnant but having to wfh with him at home - so can’t even do any homeschooling worth the name. That’s the worry really, that he’ll get even further behind.

Whataroyalannoyance · 03/12/2021 06:32

Blame the parents who send in sick kids. Or the Borough who give unattainable attendance goals to schools

This post wasn’t about Covid.

And the OP is pregnant. The teacher who replied is not AFAIK.

It absolutely does apply. 48 hours for staff and students.
Santaischeckinglists · 03/12/2021 07:26

Nope. Happy to name the school!! Apparently their policy is that dc can return when they feel well enough. They absolutely bully you to send them in. Even offer to come pick them up in hired school bus...
Have had school attendance officer at the door because dd had only 96 %attendence ...
Again happy to out the school...

TankFlyBoss · 03/12/2021 07:42

@Santaischeckinglists I'm an education welfare officer and love to know if it's a school in my area. I'd also love to know the backstory why you had a home visit for 96% attendance. And yes the D and V "rule" is a little different in secondary, with good reason.

Santaischeckinglists · 03/12/2021 07:48

No backstory. Dc are only ever off if puking!! One teacher apparently told the welfare officer I rule with a rod of iron!! All dc excell academically. No issues at all.
It's an academy and happy to pm you which one!! I reported them once for keeping ds in isolation for his shoes breaking and being unable to replace as shios were shut due to Covid.... Ended up removing 1 dc from the school altogether..

TankFlyBoss · 03/12/2021 07:57

@Santaischeckinglists then you have nothing to worry about if there is truly no backstory, hope your DD is better soon. You can PM me if you want to, it's not very likely it's a school in my area- if you're that unhappy it's probably better to make a complaint. In writing to the Head first - at this stage it makes no difference that the school is an academy. And being an academy doesn't change the attendance issues.
