I want to tell people I have a 1st class even though I don’t?

It bothers me so much to see my actual degree classification. On my cv I don’t even bother to write my degree classification but I still feel embarrassed. I want to start telling people (and myself) that I graduated with a 1st class honours even if it’s not true. It makes me feel happier to tell myself I got a first class. It also makes me feel more confident and secure in my ability to work. It makes me feel accomplished. Wondering if AIBU?

You either didn't commit yourself enough or you simply aren't as academic as you thought

I think there is an important distinction here with the word ‘academic’. You can be really bright but not as naturally academic as someone else. It’s just one type of intelligence.

Fair play to anyone who got a first, that’s an impressive achievement but it isn’t the be all and end all.

Maybe you need to dig into your self esteem issues with a therapist? Does saying you have a first class degree make you feel more likeable/ accepted/ respected? Why do you need that assurance? (Everybody has beliefs like this I'm sure)

Are you for real?
"It makes me feel better" does not excuse lying.

I’m a jet pilot. Really qualified at flying jets. I can take you and your kids to New York. On my jet. I never actually got my license but I know what’s what in a cockpit. Reckon I can handle it.
