What warm healthy puddings do you eat?

I am trying to eat more healthily and eat less chocolate etc but am craving sweet things. My teen DDs always ask for pudding too and are fed up with me saying 'fruit or yoghurt'!

I sometimes make fruit crumbles or stewed fruit but I can't think of other warm healthy puddings I can make. As it's coming up to Xmas and we'll be eating lots of 'naughty' stuff I thought I'd try and counteract that in advance Grin. It's also much colder so looking for something warm!

What do you make? Smile

A batter pudding like clafoutis which you can make with apples etc?
It will have sugar in it but no butter or other fat.

I make a slow cooker rice pudding with sweetener rather than sugar. The recipe calls for full fat milk but we love it with semi skimmed.

I’m not sure I’d call it “healthy” exactly. But rice pudding is not as “naughty” as some. Try adding some stewed fruit to it.

Apple Charlotte is a change from crumble.

My autumn favourite is baked apples (I core large bramley apples and stuff the centre with a mix of dried fruit a few pistachios and honey; top with a little brown sugar and a tiny blob of butter). Again it’s not exactly health food, but not as sweet as some things.

Banana and custard.

Poached pears. With almond extract and cinnamon.

Home made custard with less sugar than prescribed and half fat milk should satisfy the need for something warm and sweet. You could try it with any fruit. Or a piece of homemade ginger cake (homemade allows for less sugar).

Pancakes. Filled with stewed fruit or compote.

Sussex pond putting.

Carrot halwa (if you use fresh carrots and slow cook them you don’t need a lot of sugar) - the sticky pudding kind not the solid one. Dates instead of chocolate in a brownie recipe can also work.

But surely puddings AREN’T healthy by their nature?

I’m fat so I’m not doing the MN ‘a handful of nuts should suffice all day’ but short of baked fruit what could there be that’s not full of sugar and/or fat?

I’d prefer two proper puddings a week than pissing about trying to make a treat healthy with strange substitutions.

I make a lot of crumbles and my own custard, which is easier than you think.

Eve's pudding is another good one, ok, it's cake, but there's fruit there too.

I love home made rice pudding with some stewed fruit on it.

Baked or steamed apples - use cooking apples and don't add sugar. Baked or steamed pears. Bananas au rum - use orange juice and rum flavouring instead of rum. Steamed apricots - you can just heat tinned apricots in a pan. Wholemeal crepes with fruit puree and lemon juice.

Might sound weird but ready.brek with cacao powder and honey.. so yummy and oats are good for you. Also flapjacks!!

Semolina pudding with a spoonful of jam. It's one of my comfort foods and not too unhealthy.

Not super healthy but I make rice pudding with coconut milk, raisins, cinnamon and pudding rice (no sugar).

Personally I don’t think the words healthy and pudding should be used together (and don’t get me started on the whole fruit/yoghurt for pudding that MN is obsessed with).
We’ve got a steamed gingerbread and pear pudding in the slow cooker at this exact moment which will be topped with lashings of hot, creamy custard in about 10 mins.
Life is too short for healthy puddings.

Brownies made of beetroot and almond flour? With a bit of fruit and a dollop of yoghurt?

Obvs a treat but some fibre, unrefined sugar and a little goes a long way. I freeze a batch and thaw per portion. If you microwave them you can heat up and they go fudgey. I prefer to regular brownies.

Do you like dates? Just them alone are so nice. Or you can blend them with cashews, orange juice and some grated orange peel and some cacao powder. Roll into a ball or press into a dish and cut into squares after being in the fridge 😋

Can you still get dried "fruit salad"? I used to love that warm with yoghurt (or custard).
We just have puddings on a Sunday - strawberries etc in the summer & crumble in the winter.

Cooking apple peeled and cored, put on a baking tray spoon some jarred mincemeat into the core and bake in the oven, served with custard - not 100% healthy but better than some puddings

I can't wait to try some of these out! I know what people mean about pudding and healthy being used in the same sentence and I do definitely indulgeBlush I just want to try and get a sweet taste without too much fat (had a health scare so have decided to be a bit more careful about what I eat)

Also one DD is verging on overweight and I don't want to give her a complex about her weight or say no to her all the time. Just trying to get the balance right....

We keep berries in the freezer so whenever the mood strikes we can just blitz them in the microwave till they're hot then have them on porridge for breakfast or with sainsburys finest full fat Greek yoghurt which is super creamy and full of protein. If the berries are too tart I add a teaspoon of honey or maple syrup.
