To ask if you were a decent hoard of black opaque tights where would you be hiding?

I always wear black opaque tights for work - except for summer and when I wear trousers and most importantly when we were working from home - work at a college so several spells of online only. So, I love patterned tights, particularly leopard print. I had a few pairs of these as I stocked up in Peacocks before they closed. Most memorably a new pair in October 2020 as I remember grabbing a pair while I was in town. So I would say I had approximately 4 pairs. They’re pretty hard-wearing. I keep them in my socks drawer (large IKEA white Malm). Though they are in that drawer they were more of the regularly worn so these are in here for convenience and I would swear I had new ones stashed away somewhere, together with some more plain black ones. So they were for the keep for best, ready to feed into everyday circulation when it was their time. I am so sure there was this second collection. Now, over the past year or so, I have worn them very seldom due to lockdowns, returning in spring, then for the past 3 months I’ve been teacher training so I have been wearing the plain ones until I feel more confident. So, I had a bit of a stock-take and I found 1 pair of leopard and no newer plain ones. Only the older plain ones in current circulation. And one pair of diamondy pattern. So WTF are the rest??? I have searched all drawer including down the back and under lowest drawer. To no avail. I would remember outing them surely? And I don’t remember doing this. Like I say - they’re pretty hard-wearing. I don’t even think the one put that is there is the new pair I bought last October. I know this sounds a long time to have tights but with all the gaps in wearing windows I am certain I won’t have got through them. Where are they. Or to ask the title question. AIBU to ask where would you be hiding if you were this stash of tights???

Leopsrd print ones have escaped back to the jungle Grin

Have just bough myself M&S elastic waist trousers to wean myself out of joggers and leggings for the office. They look OK, feel super comfortable, but the thought make me feel about 90!

Snowisfallinghere · 28/11/2021 14:03

I stash my tights in zip bags, the kind that are made for makeup or toiletries. It protects them from getting all tangled up with the other stuff in my drawer and I don't wear them much. Usually in the wardrobe but if not, stored under the bed in boxes of off season clothes.

ponkydonkey · 28/11/2021 14:18

In the summer I often put my tights at the back of my jumper drawer... or a drawer with more space. Or in the winter clothes storage box

tomorrowalready · 28/11/2021 14:21

Have you got an airing cupboard? They might be at the back in a rarely used pile of dark towels or bed linen where you put them for safekeeping. I get the frustrating feeling of knowing I have stuff but just cannot see it. Last week I thought I must get out my winter coats. Amongst other stuff i am sorting out to donate, I found various other coats but not my warm ones. I have had a spare trolley bag standing in my bedroom for months, I just knew it had winter scarves in it so didn't look in it. After searching drawers, suitcases, bags and boxes, I thought I should actually look in the bag I had moved around several times, guess what was in there - squashed up down coats. Also I'd second looking behind chests of drawers, I moved one and found 8 bottles of scent that had disappeared.

@Rubyupbeat

Ask St. Anthony
'Oi! Saint Anthony! What are you doing with my leopard print tights?'
NeverDropYourMoonCup · 28/11/2021 15:31

@Dontfuckingsaycheese

I would possibly put them in the bottom drawer where my spare toiletries are *@ButEmilylovedhim. I looked there. @NeverDropYourMoonCup* I’ve taken drawers out and rootless. Is there a panic room I don’t know about?
Well, actually, there is.

At the back, if you put your hand against the floor, there is a gap about three fingers' high that you don't see from the inside.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 28/11/2021 20:13

@NeverDropYourMoonCup I have been in the panic room. I’ve just lifted all the drawers out. Still nothing. I checked my leggings collection one by one just in case. There are 22 bloody pairs on my leggings shelf. And that’s not counting the thermal ones that live elsewhere, the ones in the wash (I’ve checked the linen bin), and the ones I rather excitedly found in the tights area that must have got stuffed in there from the linen bin pile when I dragged them in amongst all the stuff I’d turfed out of that drawer last time. I feel like I’ve let you all down. I’m so sorry. I was composing my exciting I’ve found them post in my head while I was rooting through my jumper shelf. I think I might have to admit defeat and admit I’ve chucked them ….

Mine are in the wrapping paper drawer. I stuffed them in there about 3 years ago when I ran out of space and there they have stayed. I’ve kind of got used to them being there now!

ConfusedBear · 28/11/2021 20:24

It seems unlikely that you would have thrown them out. Could they be with your towels or sheets? Or possibly in a shopping bag in the place you store bags?

NeverDropYourMooncup · 28/11/2021 20:30

Just wondering, as my going off in search of the panic room I vaguely remembered (so it's your fault my bedroom has been completely rearranged and I now have three bags of clothes to sort through and one to recycle tomorrow after work), might you have a wardrobe with a really discreet space/another panic room underneath and between the front legs?

It's the perfect place to lose shoes, socks, packs of tights cat toys, plectrums, 20p pieces, bracelets, earrings, coathangers and everything else I've just dragged out from underneath.

I've also found shoes and slippers underneath the sofa before now. And more cat toys.

I did however, also check the basket in which I would chuck paired socks and found 11 pairs of tights I don't even remember buying, 3 pairs that I do, but the 3 pairs of Snags I bought less than six weeks ago are nowhere to be seen.

Winniewonka · 28/11/2021 20:44

If you were keeping them for best, have you also got shoes or boots for best too? Could they be stored inside of them?

MMAMPWGHAP · 28/11/2021 20:50

Inside a handbag that you haven’t used for ages. You put them in there to bulk it out a bit and stop it creasing

Does that handbag hang next to one of the odd sock bags?
yorkshiremum2022 · 28/11/2021 20:58

I found mine today under the outside cushions under the stairs - no idea how or when they got there!

comeundone · 28/11/2021 21:02

Is it remotely possible that they were worn out and you binned and forgot because traumatic? That would be more satisfactory somehow.

KnobJockey · 28/11/2021 21:03

Wherever you keep your swimwear.

In a carrier bag still, in a plastic washing basket filled with odds and sods that need a home or to go to charity shop/ vinted

KnobJockey · 28/11/2021 21:04

In a fabric shopper bag you haven't used for a while

5128gap · 28/11/2021 21:09

If I was a stash I might hide myself in with black tops and jumpers, as I'd look bulky enough at a glance to blend in.
If I'd been washed in separate pairs I might use static to wrap myself round other garments.
If I thought you were distracted enough for me to get away with it, I might have thrown myself in the bin when you bought me, leaving you to put the bag I'd come in in the drawer instead of me.
If you were having a sort out, I may have jumped in with the charity shop stuff, again disguising myself as a black top.

Back of airing cupboard?

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 28/11/2021 21:13

@comeundone that could quite possibly be it. I did love them so!! So much that the last dash to buy the pair from Peacocks was in the middle of a huge emergency I was in but I still popped in. I’d had to go to town to get something for my dad as I was caring for him as mum got taken into hospital. It felt so petty, selfish and me,me,me but they were closing down. And I just had to get one more pair. That’s how important they were to me and that’s why I remember it so vividly… I now feel like I’m losing my mind 😔

Awww @5128gap you have made me smile thank you ❤️ I feel extremely stressed when I can’t find something. Ridiculously stressed. So conversely, when I find it I feel a humungously disproportionate wave of relief. I want that wave!! I need it…

Then if I were the stash I'd be getting ready to leap out yelling 'surprise!' right about now. Good luck.

Back of the underwear/sock drawers.

23MinutesfromTuIseHill · 28/11/2021 21:58

Dog bed? If no dog, next door's dog bed.

comeundone · 28/11/2021 22:24

🤗 sorry to hear that op. Totally understand. The Primark emergency fake uggs and PJs I bought for spending the night in a chair next to my mum's bed on the ward are much loved things even if they're not what I'd usually buy.
