To ask if you were a decent hoard of black opaque tights where would you be hiding?

I always wear black opaque tights for work - except for summer and when I wear trousers and most importantly when we were working from home - work at a college so several spells of online only. So, I love patterned tights, particularly leopard print. I had a few pairs of these as I stocked up in Peacocks before they closed. Most memorably a new pair in October 2020 as I remember grabbing a pair while I was in town. So I would say I had approximately 4 pairs. They’re pretty hard-wearing. I keep them in my socks drawer (large IKEA white Malm). Though they are in that drawer they were more of the regularly worn so these are in here for convenience and I would swear I had new ones stashed away somewhere, together with some more plain black ones. So they were for the keep for best, ready to feed into everyday circulation when it was their time. I am so sure there was this second collection. Now, over the past year or so, I have worn them very seldom due to lockdowns, returning in spring, then for the past 3 months I’ve been teacher training so I have been wearing the plain ones until I feel more confident. So, I had a bit of a stock-take and I found 1 pair of leopard and no newer plain ones. Only the older plain ones in current circulation. And one pair of diamondy pattern. So WTF are the rest??? I have searched all drawer including down the back and under lowest drawer. To no avail. I would remember outing them surely? And I don’t remember doing this. Like I say - they’re pretty hard-wearing. I don’t even think the one put that is there is the new pair I bought last October. I know this sounds a long time to have tights but with all the gaps in wearing windows I am certain I won’t have got through them. Where are they. Or to ask the title question. AIBU to ask where would you be hiding if you were this stash of tights???

Dc's/ Dh borrowing them?

thenightsky · 28/11/2021 11:54

In a carrier bag under the bed?

Appiandterri · 28/11/2021 11:55

Bottom or top of the wardrobe?
Do you have a hold-all stashed somewhere that is little used that you’ve used for storage?

LosingTheWill2 · 28/11/2021 11:55

If I were the tights, I would probably be in the drawer of a teenage girl (usually where my stuff ends up!)

macaronip1e · 28/11/2021 11:55

Do you have navy tights? My black tights like to get really muddled up with them so that I can’t reliably tell them apart with my colour blind eyes….

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 28/11/2021 11:57

In a suitcase

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 28/11/2021 11:57

No Dh. 18 year old DS unlikely. Though I have considered it!! Under bed I have those long plastic boxes. So nothing gets under there by accident…. Worth considering though….

Teenage daughter's sock drawer.

MRex · 28/11/2021 11:59

Usually I'd say bottom or top of the wardrobe. However, we have some suitcases in the eaves; one has spare hangers, which is fine as they break eventually, but also I discovered the other day that it had new tights in their (discounted) packets. So did you store them in my eaves instead of your own? No leopard print but some diamond shape, some swirly patterns and blue ones.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 28/11/2021 11:59

No. No navy ones. I have purple and burgundy ones (previously in everyday circulation) they’re still there.

Where would you put them if you bought a load right now? Kind of let your mind go blank and just go there. This is what I do, usually does work. I’m a creature of habit!

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 28/11/2021 12:01

There's a gap at the back of Malm drawers where everything hides without affecting the opening and closing.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 28/11/2021 12:02

Ooh @MRex. I do like the sound of the swirly ones! Maybe they are mine under your eaves 😊 I’m off for another bloody look. It’s driving me bonkers. The only other though is they could have got gathered up with other clothes possibly in clean washing….

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 28/11/2021 12:03

Oh, and if you have skirting boards, that also creates a big enough gap to lose hundreds of things if they fall off the top when you're putting things away...

I hate those bloody drawers.

LakieLady · 28/11/2021 12:05

Could they have gone walkabout and concealed themselves at the back of the drawers?

A couple of years ago I took the drawers out of a chest to move it and found several pairs of knickers, socks and tights.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 28/11/2021 12:06

I would possibly put them in the bottom drawer where my spare toiletries are @ButEmilylovedhim. I looked there. @NeverDropYourMoonCup I’ve taken drawers out and rootless. Is there a panic room I don’t know about?

Mine go in a vacuum bag at the bottom of the wardrobe. If it was just one pair I'd suggest checking your washing machine filter - it's where my odd socks end up

ErrolTheDragon · 28/11/2021 12:10

Stuffed into a bag in the bottom of the wardrobe.

Dontfuckingsaycheese · 28/11/2021 12:39

I’m giving up. I’ve rooted again. Thanks for kind suggestions. I guess what upsets me is the feeling I’ve lost them. Or maybe I did throw a load. But I usually remember… I also can’t find the brand new pack of eyeshadow applicators I was chuffed to track down in Wilkos. They’re so hard to find now! As are decently priced black opaque patterned tights!! If anyone’s seen any lately please advise!! I will try o get to Boyes - that’s where I got my lovely diamond ones from.

I have searched all drawer including down the back and under lowest drawer.

Was that the first place you thought to look? If so, look there again, harder. Remove EVERYTHING from each drawer.

My sister told me that lost things are usually in the first place you thought of looking, but you didn't recognise them or they've fallen down the back of the drawer or something has fallen on top of them. Your brain did know where they were, but you gave up too easily.

This is a very reliable method and IME works about 80% of the time.

Saracen · 28/11/2021 13:09

We even have a name for this method in our house. It is the "Aunt Sue Principle" after my sister!

That's an excellent tip and I can think of several times that's happened to me.

Box in the bottom of my wardrobe

TurquoiseDragon · 28/11/2021 13:54

Perhaps behind the chest of drawers. I arrange things on top now to prevent stuff falling off down the back. Our skirting boards are quite thick, so there's plenty of room for things to hide there.
