I know i've given the answer to the question already, but does anyone else find that on any mumsnet thread in response to a question however innocent it is there tends to be someone jumping in with a nasty judgemental unhelpful response.. like they were dying to see a thread they could be nasty on next kind of thing? It always seems to be on the first couple of responses. It's a pattern on here i've noticed. Then it tends to be a few neutral posters, then someone finally with a bit of empathy, a bit of to and fro which is normal. . There often seems to be a massive debate or argument about seemingly innocent things. Has anyone else noticed this? I'm expecting so many responses now saying i'm insecure, this is mumsnet etc, what did you expect, you are massively overthinking etc, the usual responses. Really weird I think

i think there are some very lonely people, possibly undergoing an existential crisis, a loss of confidence, wfh and bored out of their tits.

they hover in the wings waiting for new threads so that they can flex their necks out with sharp little put-downs that possibly allow them a brief, if anticlimactic sense of relevance in a world which confuses and often shuns them.

Pheasantlysurprised · 25/11/2021 11:50

and dont forget tho 'crew' who follow on to defend it.

excusing it with gusto because everyone else is too woke or over sensitive. classic bully trash.

BigYellowHat · 25/11/2021 11:56

A YANBU thread will generally be solved by the first poster. This is mostly because 15 pages in most people haven’t even read most of it and are just going with the majority 😂

2Gen · 25/11/2021 12:18

I've noticed this too since I've started going on MN! I've lost count of the amount of times I've thought " Haven't you READ the feckin' post?"
The world is full of those who like to put others down though, so it's no surprise, just a sobering reminder that not everyone has good intentions nor a kind heart!

smellyolebum · 25/11/2021 12:34

Love the ones that say "Why are you posting on an internet forum"

WellLarDeDar · 25/11/2021 12:38

I think you're right OP, there are MN users that come on here deliberately to be as nasty as possible because there's not really any consequences in their really lives. There are some really really nasty people on here. I've seen a lot of users twisting other people's words to turn relatively sane statements into really awful narratives.

Magicalwoodlands · 25/11/2021 12:43

It’s true, and I think @Pheasantlysurprised has perhaps surmised why.

The Chinese whispers thing is so true as well. I’ve actually nodded along with a lot of this thread. My feeling is that MNHQ should do a lot more to quell it. More often than not, if a thread is too nasty, they just pull the lot.

BoredZelda · 25/11/2021 18:27

I always think the posters who are judgemental and unkind must be either doing it on purpose for the laugh or they are in some kind of unhappy situation for them to be so narrow minded and thoughtless.

Oh the irony.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 25/11/2021 18:49

@Sorrynotsorry2

People don't read the posts properly either. An op can clearly state " please don't suggest xy and z "

First response. "Why don't you try zy and z"

Or "please don't suggest I ltb , I cant right now "

First response. " ltb"

For the second category of threads, that's invariably because the OP has just described her boyfriend abusing her children and she only wants to hear 'Oh, he's just misunderstood, of course you're right to want to stay with him, it'll all work out and you'll live happily ever after when baby number 4 arrives, it's not as if cocaine is any worse than a cup of coffee, all my MC friends do lines on a Saturday night as part of winding down from our north of £100k jobs'.
