Is it weird to frequently change your WhatsApp profile pictures

Would like to see what the general public think to a person (a married woman in mid 30’s) changing her WhatApp profile picture as a minimum once a week , some weeks every other day, some days even twice a day to herself , sometimes with husband sometimes with kids ….

I don’t know anyone else who does this , what does this tendency mean ?

OP posts:

WhatsApp profile pictures are so tiny that I wouldn't notice unless I was specifically checking someone's profile photo every day. Is that what you're doing OP?

Amandasummers · 25/11/2021 04:25

I know some who change it frequently and some never? I do think when it’s constant new selfies it’s for attention though. I change mine form my kids to a nice selfie whenever DP pisses me off because I’m petty 🤣

Kittykat93 · 25/11/2021 07:58

Love people saying oh they must have too much time on their hands..erm you're all sat on here scrolling on mumsnet for hours on end ! Also why is it fine to post new pics to Facebook, instagram etc but not WhatsApp? Bloody stupid.

Justheretoaskaquestion91 · 25/11/2021 08:43

I would also think it’s mental if someone changed fb profile several times a week. It’s Very self obsessed

MLMshouldbeillegal · 25/11/2021 08:50

You can have a profile picture on whatsapp?

MuscariMuguet · 25/11/2021 08:53

Weird thing to be bothered by.

flowery · 25/11/2021 09:20

I don’t think it’s a tendency that “means” anything. But if person A is changing their photo as often as described, person B must be virtually stalking them to have noticed!

scarpa · 25/11/2021 09:32

I do think it's very weird (who looks at whatsapp profile photos? Also the PP who needs to 'keep up with the growth of their baby' Grin).

But isn’t there some mechanism whereby it shows when someone has updated their WhatsApp profile? I cant think how, but I’m pretty sure something has flagged up to me when a friend I don’t chat to often has changed her profile picture… I certainly wouldn’t have been looking, so something must have alerted me.
Theflamingnerd · 25/11/2021 09:40

I think it says more about the person noticing it and keeping track of it then it does about the person doing it tbh can't say I even notice when people change their WhatsApp picture.

Lostmyheart101 · 25/11/2021 09:42

I think it’s weird you even noticed this! Are you one of those stalkers in denial who can’t help looking at someone’s profile who you don’t even like?

montysma1 · 25/11/2021 09:44

Why in earth do you care?

wobblywinelover · 25/11/2021 09:55

@Minfilia

Haven’t changed mine in seven years so you’re probably asking the wrong person.
Spectacularly pointless comment 🙄

@Rhumatoidwarrior88

No it doesn't
wobblywinelover · 25/11/2021 09:59

@Ruralbliss

I dated a guy that did this. He turned out to be a narcissistic bellend.
I can second this
PeterPomegranate · 25/11/2021 10:00

Can’t remember when I last changed mine. But some people change them a lot. Our builder does - sometimes his daughter, sometimes his wife, currently the cladding he’s just put up at the back of our house. Doesn’t bother me one bit.

videobaby123 · 25/11/2021 10:10

How is it weird to update your pictures daily/weekly?? Some of the comments are so strange lol people can do what they want. How does that make you narcissistic🤣

ThePlantsitter · 25/11/2021 10:14

If I noticed someone was changing their profile pic daily or twice a day I would think I was spending too much of my life looking at their WhatsApp profile.

It’s because the only person that looks at it is probably you I don’t think most of my WhatsApp contacts even have a picture!
galacticpixels · 25/11/2021 11:29

I would think it was unusual but not sure if it "means" anything specific. I had to go check what mine was just now and it's 5 years old.

Most people on my list have old pictures - I think because you don't see your own picture on your list you forget there's even one there so I would be surprised to see someone changing theirs every week.

I also don't think you have to be stalking someone to notice they constantly change their photo. It's right there on your conversation list...

StrongArm · 25/11/2021 11:32

I change mine every time I have a nicer picture of the dog Grin

HumunaHey · 25/11/2021 11:36

I think you are obsessed withthis person and are trying to extraxt information and pyscho analyse pretty normal behaviour.

If you're referring to yourself doing this, then I guess you might have low confidence or anxiety and are overthinking how you are perceived.

justswaying · 25/11/2021 13:11

I quite like looking at updated pics!
I have a few friends that change theirs regularly and I often make a point of looking at them then sending them a message 'oooh cute pic!'

Maybe that's what they want? A little complimentary attention from their friends? Or maybe they've got too much time on their hands and are bored... maybe they're trying to make their ex jealous see what they're missing lol.
Who cares...!

CouldItBeCake · 25/11/2021 13:14

If she’s mid-30s it means that (like me) when she first started using Facebook it was when you had statuses written in the 3rd person that you updated several times a day. Grin
