Just out of curiosity how many people who use this forum has a autistic child who has been diagnosed.
YANBU - child has been diagnosed by a professional

YABU - child not autistic, waiting on a assessment

X2

SnarkyBag · 21/11/2021 21:41

How is not autistic/waiting on assessment even the same thing?

peboh · 21/11/2021 21:43

DD (3 in December) is awaiting assesment, however her consultant said she will be diagnosed by the end of the year.

TEH82 · 21/11/2021 21:43

Took 16 months from referral to diagnosis but finally we are there.

tiredanddangerous · 21/11/2021 21:45

DD1 is diagnosed

Borka · 21/11/2021 21:45

The voting isn't going to tell you much, because people who have an autistic child are much more likely to click on a thread with this title than people who don't.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 21/11/2021 21:46

Ds4 was diagnosed at 2.4 years . Took 4 months. I know I'm lucky that the process was so fast for us though

Hidehi4 · 21/11/2021 21:48

It’s not the same thing. I was just wondering how many people have managed to get their child/children diagnosed and how many are waiting or aren’t autistic

Actually was probably slightly longer as we saw specialist salt first who wrote to the gp asking for a referral. Was probably 5/6 months from talking to the HV. Was diagnosed at 2nd appointment with peads though.

LynetteScavo · 21/11/2021 21:50

I only found MN years and years ago because my eldest DC had "issues" and I

Sprogonthetyne · 21/11/2021 21:51

DS was recently diagnosed at nearly 5, had been waiting/ undergoing assessment since 3.5

FawnFrenchieMum · 21/11/2021 21:51

I have one diagnosed and one I would like to be assessed but as she masks really well at school, I think it’s going to be an up hill struggle.

LynetteScavo · 21/11/2021 21:51

Was desperately Googling.

I can't vote, but yes, one DC diagnosed.

SnarkyBag · 21/11/2021 21:56

1 in 100 hundred children have autism.

Borka · 22/11/2021 07:40

@SnarkyBag

1 in 100 hundred children have autism.
I think it's a lot higher than that. DS was diagnosed with autism when he was 5 and when he was at primary school there was always at least one other autistic child in every class he was in. At his nursery, 3 out of 27 children were either diagnosed or on the diagnostic pathway.

Exactly.

I presumed there was going to be a further question, so I don't think people without an autistic child would click, because it doesn't appear to be directed at them.

AdditionalCharacter · 22/11/2021 07:57

You do know AIBU is not a random poll taking place for your article right?

Totally agree
DriftingPlateTectonic · 22/11/2021 10:10

In order to get onto the diagnostic pathway there needs to be a good amount of evidence etc. My DC was referred and quickly discharged from camhs initially due to some outdated thinking around ASC signs. He was later referred again and diagnosed.

Newrunner29 · 22/11/2021 10:10

My daughter was just turned 2 when refered for diagnosis and 2 and 11 months when diagnosised but she was very obvious and it didnt need any assessments just pediatrician saying she was as soon as we had our appointment with them. December 12th 2019 will never forget the day 💗

3scape · 22/11/2021 10:11

I've got one of each. But I can only vote for one

LunaAndHerMoonDragons · 22/11/2021 10:16

1 diagnosed, 2 awaiting assessments

trevthecat · 22/11/2021 10:18

My eldest (11) is on the pathway now. Hopefully diagnosis next year. I've had concerns since he was 18m but was told he was quirky. Lockdown brought his traits out enormously and school and camhs now very involved

elliejjtiny · 22/11/2021 10:27

Ds1 - raised concerns aged 3, diagnosed with autism aged 9.
Ds2 - raised concerns aged 3, diagnosed with sensory processing disorder aged 8, still waiting for autism assessment aged 13.
Ds5 - raised concerns aged 4 months, diagnosed with autism aged 6.

x2boys · 22/11/2021 11:06

Im not going to vote as I don't really understand what I'm voting for
But my son was disgusting with autism and learning disabilities at the three and a half after seven months of assessment,s he's non verbal and at a special school ,he was subsequently found to have an underlying rare chromosome disorder.
