I run the washing machine overnight because I'm on Economy 7 and it's cheaper. Am detached though

TaraLewis · 18/11/2021 23:03

Mid terrace but it's in the back which isn't attached to anyone , any time we need it, 4am this week as smallest was vomiting

Voord · 18/11/2021 23:35

Terraced.

Hoover between 9am and 6pm week days, 10am to 6pm weekends.

Washing machine - any time but generally not after 6pm, mainly because I don’t want to hear it.

scarpa · 18/11/2021 23:38

Our mid-terrace walls are PAPER thin, we've shouted 'bless you' to sneezes back and forth with next door before now ha. The dryer and washing machine you can't hear next door from their bedroom, so I don't mind running those of an evening (although I try not to past 10pm unless it was desperate, mornings are fair game as they're usually up with their baby at 6am anyway which is before I usually would get up!).

Our ancient but excellent hoover sounds like a Mars mission taking off so I try and keep that to before about 8.30/9pm, just because you genuinely can't hear your own TV if next door are hoovering, so ours must be even worse.

LittleDandelionClock · 18/11/2021 23:40

In a detached now, and so it doesn't matter, but when we were semi-detached, I wouldn't have anything like the vacuum or washing machine running after 9pm (or before 9am.)

Notcontent · 18/11/2021 23:49

Mid terrace so would not do washing after 10 pm. Vacuuming is really noisy so I avoid doing that in the evening.

Nsky · 18/11/2021 23:55

Mid terrace, any time really, tho hoover no later than 8 pm

Chely · 18/11/2021 23:56

Semi. Washer can be on at all hours, dishwasher often on late at night too. Also run 2 dehumidifiers when the weather is not great though I turn one upstairs off by 10pm as it annoys me. I will hoover any time if needed. Had no complaints from neighbours.

Please god, do not put washing machines on at night if everyone is in bed. My neighbours house burned to the ground when the washer went up in flames WHILE THEY WERE IN THE HOUSE!!!!! They all got out safely because they were awake and could see.
slaybellsringing · 19/11/2021 00:01

Semi but never hear the neighbour and vice versa so must be very thick walls.

We run the washing machine only at night but it's so whisper-quiet, sometimes I have to open the door (integrated) to check it's not stopped !

Vaccum - we have three dc who love to craft and drop crumbs all hours therefore I have a cordless dyson and a husband who is permanently attached to the end of it 😂

slaybellsringing · 19/11/2021 00:02

@ILoveAGlassofFizzy Shock I just read your post. Never again 😞 how scary for your friend, and I'm glad they all got out safely x

waitingpatientlyforspring · 19/11/2021 00:02

Anytime really. Thick walls so can't hear neighbours. If husband and kids asleep won't hoover but wash goes on at any time.

Crikeycroc · 19/11/2021 00:06

Detached house. I often vacuum or put a load of washing on at 9pm but obviously it doesn’t disturb anyone and my child is asleep in her room with white noise to block out the sound.

The washing machine was in their garage so they didnt see it immediately on fire. Fortunately their smoke alarms went off, the fire went straight up to the bedroom above the garage (got to wonder whether building regs had been adhered to!). Then spread to the other bedrooms. The living room and kitchen were the last to get hit (fire door, maybe?) It was so ridiculously quick, fire crew couldnt bloody find the water hydrant so were knocking on doors to see if anybody knew! ten minutes and the whole place was alight. House was demolished and new house built. Everyone was ok including dog and chickens.

Twofurrycatsagain · 19/11/2021 00:22

Vacuuming before 7 unless a brief emergency spill. Washer doesn't affect anyone because of where it is but when I lived in a flat 9pm.
I also never run the washer or dishwasher when I'm in bed or out. One of my Aunt's had a washer set on fire while in bed. I also worked with someone who had previously been a cleaner of fire damaged properties. A huge amount caused by washers, dishwashers and driers.

NotMyCat · 19/11/2021 00:24

Downstairs apartment but no adjoining walls and upstairs is very hard of hearing! I hear the pipes when the toilet is flushed upstairs and that's about it

Hoover - 9pm and washing machine up until 11pm. We have quiet hours set between 11pm - 7am so I'm cautious between those times

BloodyAlarms · 19/11/2021 00:49

In a semi now and can never hear my neighbours. They have cleaners go in twice a week and I cant hear even the hoover. My washing machine is in the out house and I can't even hear it. No other appliances near the neighbours wall.

I'm in bed by 9pm most night ( not asleep obviously) so never have anything going past 9pm due to fire risk.

Will occasionally put the washer on at 8am.

PixieLaLa · 19/11/2021 01:16

Neither past 8pm

DdraigGoch · 19/11/2021 01:20

Semi with thick stone walls. Other half is a second home so they're hardly in anyway.

Washing machine gets put on overnight while it's cheap (before anyone panics, I work shifts so am awake for most of the cycle while getting ready for work). I'm often too lazy to vacuum but when it does get used it can be quite late (last minute panic when visitors arriving next morning).

Fefifobum · 19/11/2021 01:31

Mid terrace and whenever I like? Even during the night if the mood takes me...

Scattyhattie · 19/11/2021 02:22

I've attached neighbours so I wouldn't start up washing machine (more the spin cycle) or vacuum before 8am or after 9pm. My neighbour was vacuuming at nearly midnight this week, I'd only do that broken glass not to properly clean . The sound proofing is crap and certain noises really travel, I'd long for some quiet detached house with distant neighbours Blush

Hoesbeforebroes · 19/11/2021 02:29

We're in a freestanding house but the neighbours are very close, less than a foot away on one side.

I'll vacuum anytime as long as it's not disturbing anyone in my own home. If it was early or late I'd shut doors and windows first.

Washing machine is often programmed to run overnight/very early morning. I hate the neighbours on that side and don't care if it bothers them Grin.

TheWestIsTheBest · 19/11/2021 02:44

Detached so whenever I like. In reality, I put the robovac on whenever someone is around as he gets stuck and tries to eat socks, but the neighbours can't hear anything so that isn't a consideration.
