To think Amazon should deliver on the agreed day?

I ordered a bunch of stuff from Amazon and set the delivery day to tomorrow, on purpose, because today is a really busy day. I got a dispatch notification for half of it last night saying it was arriving today and I changed the delivery to tomorrow, because that's when the main item is arriving and I wanted it all together, not in dribs and drabs, as that's the point of having an 'Amazon Day', isn't it?

Guess what - just got a notification that the main item is arriving today. No option to delay it, no prior dispatch notification which would have let me change it, nothing. So now I have to accommodate this delivery AND a bunch of stuff coming tomorrow that would have also come today if I hadn't changed it!

What an absolute pain in the arse...how are they not obliged to deliver on the day they say they will?

@CaptainHammer

I noticed the last 2 orders I made have said something like “please be aware your order may arrive a day early” on the delivery option page
Yeah same, but then why do they give you the option of rescheduling? If they can't do it, they shouldn't offer. And the main item that said it was definitely arriving on Friday, which is why I set everything else to also come on Friday, was dispatched today with no notice and no opportunity to delay or cancel it.

What's even more irritating is that if something isn't delivered when they say it has been, you have to wait three days to claim your money back, during which time it might turn up. So if you're waiting for something specific for a certain time, you either need to rush out and buy it elsewhere (and then deal with returning the Amazon item if/when it shows up) elsewhere or hope it does still turn up. It's an absolutely shit service. I think I'm going to just stop using it.

I'm guessing for people who live in houses, these aren't massive issues, but I live in a flat in a block full of people. There's nowhere safe to leave a package, so it either doesn't get delivered if you're not in, or they leave it somewhere ridiculous and it gets nicked.

@TicTacHoh

Amazon day has never worked for me, even in lockdown when I was trying to minimise deliveries. I chose one day for everything to be delivered, the poor delivery guy was still at my door 3/4 times in a week. I have no idea why they offer something they can't make work.
Yes, 100%! Why offer this fantasy 'Amazon Day'? It makes no sense! At least if I know my parcels are coming in dribs and drabs I can decide if I'm happy with that or not.

Get stuff delivered to a pick up point when you can go at your own leisure. Or buy stuff from a shop. Amazon deliver millions of parcels a day, there is no way they can always get stuff on the day you prefer.

Also your sarky attitude is unnecessary when you didn’t say it was even something important in the OP.

PingedPotato · 18/11/2021 17:07

I get what you're saying. I always try to reschedule it for a day I'm in to save them hassle and then get home from work the day before to find it has arrived!

PingedPotato · 18/11/2021 17:08

Also it's not great for people in abusive relationships who have to try and hide their purchases.

So why do they say they can? If they had been honest, I could have just ordered elsewhere. I specifically ordered from Amazon because they supposedly guaranteed the delivery day. I'm not sure where else would get away with not providing the service customers pay for and are promised.

If it wasn't something important, then I wouldn't be upset, would I? Most people who go out of their way to try to ensure their items arrive together have a very good reason to do so!

Oh God, I didn't even think of that but that's a really good point.

It's just all around shitty to make a promise and then not keep it, really. If they can't guarantee their delivery days, then they shouldn't say they can. Just say stuff will arrive whenever it arrives, and then people can decide whether or not to use it, IMO.

Oh God, I didn't even think of that but that's a really good point. I know someone who only orders to pick up points so she can be in control of when it arrives. Otherwise she has to justify every single purchase to her partner.

Anyway, like you say if they can't deliver on the day they say and instead do it early they shouldn't give you the option.

Well, my Amazon Day has worked out perfectly today - four parcels, purchased at different times this week, all delivered together this afternoon. Sorry to those for whom it’s a less useful experience.

I'm glad it works for some people. Definitely has never worked for me. The two parcels I got today were delivered 10 mins apart, to add insult to injury. Had to leave the same remote meeting twice to accept them, and now the stuff I really needed tomorrow isn't coming tomorrow at all because there's some sort of delay now. Cheers, Amazon.

Amazon delivery day is a waste of time. I did an order yesterday swamped at work today and Friday on conference calls so requested Saturday or Sunday.
Got an email…
4 items delivered today
3 on Friday
1 on Saturday
And the the rest on Sunday.

Waste of everyone’s time including the poor delivery driver who I’ve seen more than my husband this week

Pixiedust1234 · 18/11/2021 23:09

Not heard of Amazon day but it does annoy me when websites give you date(s) when your parcels should arrive but then come two days early, etc. I try to order stuff for when I am home to receive it! As for saying you can have a safe place listed on the website, I do on Amazon but they don't bother to eave it there, just dump it on my front doorstep in full view of passersby Angry

underneaththeash · 18/11/2021 23:11

Meh - if you're in your in.....if you're not they come back.

I genuinely just don't get it. Presumably if the item needs a signature, which some of mine do, they can't deliver it if you're not in. So why on earth would they attempt to deliver it on a day to the one you specifically asked for, presumably because you know you'll be in? Then it's a totally wasted trip for them and they have to come back the next day. It makes absolutely no sense.

And they try to paint it as a good thing. Woo hoo great, your parcel is earlier than we said! Yeah fantastic if you're at work all day or on holiday or staying with your partner that weekend. I love getting a text to say something has been delivered and then worrying the entire time that it will have been stolen from outside my flat door by the time I get back.

Just order to a locker and collect it when it suits you.

festivefuschias · 18/11/2021 23:19

Choosing an Amazon day has never worked for me either, they’ve always delivered early. It seems like they do think they’re doing you a favour.

MsAgnesDiPesto · 19/11/2021 09:15

I expect it works for me because we are in a small town in the country, so it’s not as easy for them to chuck things on a passing van as they become available. If ever I have ordered several things from other sellers but all to be delivered by Amazon, they still come on the same day in the same van - probably meaning there will only be one van in our town on that day. If you’re in an urban area, it will make more sense for them to get things out of their expensive warehouse space ASAP, with lots of vans covering the same or similar routes each day.

Squirrelblanket · 19/11/2021 09:50

This happened to me last week, I placed an order on Thursday with the delivery specified as Monday as I was going to be out all day Friday and then away at the weekend. On Friday morning I got an email saying it was out for delivery! It was alcohol so I knew someone would need to be in to receive it. The last time something similar happened, I had 4 missed calls on my mobile from the Amazon man asking where I was!

On this occasion it arrived ten minutes after I got home which was lucky. Sometimes they do leave parcels outside and I wish they wouldn't. We only have a front door facing the street so there isn't really anywhere save to leave them, we've been really lucky so far!

motherheroic · 19/11/2021 10:51

Only items directly from the Amazon warehouse can be delivered on specific days I'm pretty sure.

All my items are direct from the Amazon warehouse. All of them had the option of choosing a day. Chose the day. They just decided to send some out a day early without even giving me the option to reschedule. I guess they just don't care about inconveniencing people or they wouldn't keep doing it. As someone else pointed out, this could result in violence or abuse if someone was in a controlling relationship with purchases being monitored, or a really important thing being left outside an empty house and stolen, or a boss getting angry with someone for needing to leave meetings to answer the door. I don't see any of these things as being particularly 'first world problems' like some implied. Not everything people buy on Amazon is pointless tat.

Given the absolute chaos Brexit plus C-19 has caused for the haulage and delivery industries, I think we should be cut them some slack. We are so many drivers short - and with such delays on goods arriving - that accepting there will be some disruption in home deliveries seems reasonable.

TeaSoakedDisasterMagnet · 19/11/2021 12:02

Complain to them, and ask for a refund of delivery charge, or if a prime member ask for a months prime back. I had similar the other day, ordered something specifically for work and they didn’t deliver when promised. They gave me one months prime subscription back, which was half the cost of the item anyway.

TheGoogleMum · 19/11/2021 12:10

I sometimes pick a specific item because t says delivery today! And then as soon as its ordered it goes nah it'll be tomorrow so I could have picked a different one
