To be annoyed about Sony and the Playstation 5

Isithalftermyet · 17/11/2021 13:56

I know its a first world problem but I've been trying to buy one for the family since it came out. That's a year now. Stock drops today at amazon and game. Missed out on both despite being in a virtual queue for an hour. I've come close so many times but always missed out.

Look on ebay and there are literally thousands listed. People boasting at having sold over 85 consoles - so how much of that profit did they pay tax on then? I just want to buy one for my family and not pay a scalper for the privilege. Feel like giving up to be honest.

Sony have managed this so badly. And it's their loss as that's already a years worth of their games we haven't bought. We did try one but it won't work properly on the PS4 so no point.

I know there are bigger issues and we are lucky to be able to afford one at all - at what would bit its normal price - but this has really annoyed me this morning. Rant over.

Keep checking the Twitter threads for drops. I was also told by a song employee that more will be in physical stores now to get people back through doors! We managed to pick one up in Argos in August, but did have to drive 30 mins away to get it! Good luck

Nearlytheretrees · 17/11/2021 20:15

I've been trying for months, I'm on stock checker etc with alerts I've been in so many Virtual queues and no luck. It's the only thing ds wants and I think he's going to end up very disappointed sadly

Starseeking · 17/11/2021 20:33

This was what I used to track where stock was at any given time. It was surprisingly accurate, as long as you continuously refreshed the page!

We got the new xbox in November last year from argos. We kept checking twitter to see where it will be realised and were refreshing the page from 8am, it kept saying in stock but when we added it to the basket it was gone. Eventually got one at about 7pm that day as i think they were checking addresses so if someone had ordered a few, some were cancelled so they were coming back in stock throughout the day.

GrandTheftWalrus · 17/11/2021 23:34

Late to the thread but also not after a ps5. But as people have said try ee etc. We got a switch on my dh account and we only paid an extra 30 a month for 10 months and that was it. You pay the retail price.

We also have 2 ps3, one in living room for gaming and one in bedroom for netflix Grin

GrandTheftWalrus · 17/11/2021 23:35

We also finally got a ps4 at the start of lockdown last year and the hardest thing was trying to find a 2nd controller, they were sold out everywhere.

TwoleftUggs · 17/11/2021 23:41

I really recommend the HotStock app. I tried for ages to get the new Xbox with no joy. Used the app and paid a fiver for premium which just meant you get the alerts first I think. Anyway within 48 hours I’d secured one. Worth the fiver!

downtonupton · 18/11/2021 00:35

we found various stock tracking things on Twitter - we got one from Argos in June after a couple of weeks following on Twitter...

@Isithalftermyet

Maybe they should have waited until they had enough stock going out at once so that this wasn't a problem. They must have realised what would happen with such a limited amount being released each time...

Don't get me started on the chip shortage - perhaps if manufacturers realised that we don't want or need wifi in our dishwashers, washing machines and fridges then there wouldn't be a shortage... But that is a whole other rant!

It wouldn't make any difference if your white goods didn't have chips in them. Those come off completely different production lines at different fabs which can't be quickly switched over to other processes. It takes a good number of years for any new facility to be built and come online.
Player001 · 18/11/2021 00:39

We were on a waitlist at a store for around 3 months before we got one. They were receiving about 30 at a time so we just had to wait our turn.

Tabbacus · 18/11/2021 00:48

Apparently argos and PlayStation direct are supposed to have stock Friday. Agree about following one of the blogs- game, amazon and others have had stock this week but of course sells out in minutes.

GrandTheftWalrus · 18/11/2021 01:37

I didn't realise it was a chip problem.

LivesinLondon2000 · 18/11/2021 08:34

Also used discord for updates from stockinformer and kept missing out on Game, Very etc but finally got one on Amazon yesterday (Amazon Prime member)

theremustonlybeone · 18/11/2021 09:33

I did the same as others, spotted PS5 stock update UK on twitter, kept an eye on drop dates. Made sure I was prime and added PS5 to wish list. I only took interest in the past week and kept an eye on GAME too.

I didnt have any problem at all yesterday, logged on clicked on PS5 and it initally said there was a problem. Went into wish list instead and clicked it and paid. I am sorry for those that have struggled

Sebastianthecoo · 18/11/2021 10:12

On the stock alert someone has posted up thread I’ve just locked and all the Argos around me have them in stock. I have no interest in buying one just nosy so might be worth checking your local store?

BananaPB · 18/11/2021 10:34

Just bought one from Argos. Thank you so much

This is the same place I was tracking stock and I have to agree it is very accurate! Have managed to get one for ds and one for another family member from Argos, they seem to restock around 8am.

CurzonDax · 18/11/2021 11:04

Just want to thank the PP who recommended downloading the Hotstock app :D

Missed out on a few of their notifications this morning - clicked on links, but got placed in queue, or had sold out.

However, just managed to get one at an Argos near me (via a notification on that app) - not my local store 5 minutes away, but the one that is an 18 - 20 minute drive away (so not far at all). We can collect it from 9am on Monday, and have a week to collect (will go after work on Monday).

So - thank you :D

I understand the chip/stock issue (and that's noone's fault), but it's really frustrating for just normal people who can't get hold of one, and then we see them online being sold for stupid profits from scalpers - really pees me off!

Isithalftermyet · 18/11/2021 13:37

Thank you so much for all the tips and the offer of a voucher SafeMove. That is so kind.

Mumsnet is great, as always!

So I had been checking the stock informer on and off since yesterday and just saw there are some in Argos!!! I have booked one!!! I'm so happy! Its a 30 min drive away to collect but I am happy to do that.

A mums net happy ending! Interesting to hear that the chips are different between the consoles and white goods though - thanks for that info, I'll stop ranting about it (still don't need one in my dishwasher) and if Sony did indeed switch to making ventilators then I apologise to them wholeheartedly.

Anyone else still looking, there is hope!!!

It is annoying, especially when you see how many are being sold on places like eBay and CEX for massively inflated prices. I'd been trying to get one since they came out without any luck so I recently signed up for stock updates on telegram and I finally managed to get one yesterday from Game. I was in the virtual queue for over an hour but I got a bundle with a game and an extra control pad. The consoles on their own had already gone so maybe look for a bundle if possible.

PraiseTheSunshine · 18/11/2021 13:44

Just saw your update! yayyyy :)

BananaPB · 18/11/2021 13:45

Considering the history of hotpoint (?) tumble driers bursting into flames , I'm surprised that any manufacturer would go down the Wi-fi tumble drier route. It's not necessary to watch it spin but being at home is a good idea

RubyRedBerry · 18/11/2021 14:54

We paid a £10 deposit to Game on a Friday, they rang on the Monday to say it was in stock.....this was last month.

daisyboo1 · 23/11/2021 14:49

I managed to get one from Very about 6 weeks ago, after using the Twitter tracker and spending far too much time seeking one! I'd bought it for Christmas for my son who's away in his first term at university. He's just messaged me very excitedly to say he's bought himself an xbox having given up on sourcing a PS. Obviously he had no idea/expectation that I would buy him a PS5 for Christmas. And of course I wouldn't embarass him by telling him I'd sourced a PS5! This now means I'm stuck with a PS5 digital Console and additional handset. I don't want to make anything from this only to recover the £424 it cost me at Very for both the console and additional controller. This is completely genuine and I'm in Hampshire if this is any good to any of you looking for one still. I can of course send photos and more info if required. Both boxes are obviously unsealed and sat in my spare bedroom with the Christmas present pile! Lesson learnt. I'd rather it go to someone who really wants it than me to have to navigate ebay etc

bjjgirl · 23/11/2021 14:52

I used hot stock and got dds in March (it was an Xmas / birthday joint present) , wish I hadn't bothered she plays on it about once a week, doesn't seem that fussed.
