Find a form of exercise you enjoy and genuinely look forward to, and motivating yourself to do it will be easy.

pheonixrebirth · 17/11/2021 12:23

Pick your favourite healthy foods to eat, you then don't feel like your depriving yourself.

Oh and if your getting cravings for unhealthy stuff just make the healthy choice quickly and get it eaten, because once you've actually eaten and feel full the craving isn't as bad .

passingcloud · 17/11/2021 22:03

Intermittent fasting

Yes to finding exercise you actually enjoy. And sometimes it's the environment as much as the exercise. I never make myself do circuits etc at home but if I'm meeting a friend at an exercise class, I'll show up! Equally I love dancing at home in private (Sh'bam by Les Mills). I can't dance but it's so uplifting and really good exercise!

I've recently (in the last couple of weeks) cut sugar and wheat and the difference in my stomach is remarkable.

Sorry that was two.

Sleep

Find a sport you love and stick to it, make it part of your life

Onemorebaby · 17/11/2021 22:15

Don't buy crisps. Have nuts and rice cakes in.
Find an exercise you like or just go for a walk with an audiobook/podcast/favourite music just to get yourself out and moving. This can then evolve into running, but just getting out and moving is the key

DownWhichOfLate · 17/11/2021 22:18

Only buy food which contains one ingredient. So nothing processed.

doadeer · 17/11/2021 22:19

Don't let a bad day define the whole week. If you have an unhealthy day just accept it and get back on track the next day. Don't give up.

Schedule in exercise and remember you will never ever regret doing a workout.

MilitantFawcett · 17/11/2021 22:19

A friend who’s a personal trainer once told me “One is better than none” A minute of jogging on the spot, one brisk walk around the block, one meal that’s more veg than chips 😁 She also said “You can always do one more than you think, if you can do 5 sit ups you can do 6”.

Just don’t apply either rule to cake or sausage rolls 😁

Planks and mountain climbers. Very quick and efficient toning.

Mojoj · 17/11/2021 22:20

Write down absolutely everything you eat over one week. Be ruthlessly honest. Then aim to eat around a third less, to start off with, then half. It will take a while but eventually your portion sizes will reduce. And exercise, exercise, exercise. Even if it's walking, instead of driving. And choose an exercise you enjoy so that you look forward to it and it's not a chore. And don't say you have no time to exercise!

Track everything you eat using MyFitnessPal

Do things out of love for your body not to punish it. When you go on a strict diet or gruelling exercise regime you are fighting against your Body and doing things you won't maintain. When you are listening to your body, exercising to make it strong and healthy, and for the joy of movement and exercise, and when you eat food to nourish your body, to treat it well from the inside as well as the outside, that's the sweet spot and something you will stick with and make real lasting changes. Also instead of taking away things, add things in. When you are busy eating lots of oily fish, Lean protein, healthy fats, fruit, vegetables, whole-grains, probiotic foods etc. You don't have space for the donuts and takeaways. When you are drinking more water, you will drink less cola. When you are drinking more green tea, your consumption of flavoured lattes goes down. When you are busy on a hike or swimming or at the gym or learning to dance you don't have time to slob out so much in front of Netflix and eat junk. When you are busy going to yoga classes in the evening and getting your beauty sleep, there is less time to drink wine or not get enough shut eye. And abundance is always better than prohibitions.

HelloBunny · 17/11/2021 22:41

Just sat a quick no to rubbish. Don’t even consider it, unless it’s a planned treat, like dessert after a nice dinner. And only have top quality, your absolute favourites. The rest of it is just mindless munching, a waste of calories!

RealBecca · 17/11/2021 22:46

Just quit unhealthy food altogether. I prefer knowing that i just dont eat after dinner amd get on with my evening instead of hours of debating and rationalising if i should eat a chocolate bar. One per night adds up fast.

Sleep 8 hours a night (read Why We Sleep - it is changing my sleeping habits knowing how much it affects health and wellbeing)

Waking worked for me because I can do it whenever suits. I was finding waiting for classes to start after work etc gave me too much time to start making excuses and trying to talk myself out of it. Now I walk whenever I feel like it, currently on mat leave but used to walk on lunch break when at work. I found some great podcasts to listen to which is another motivating factor- more walking gives me more listening time and I will keep gong until I hear the end of an episode. Hope this helps

FangsForTheMemory · 17/11/2021 22:55

You don't have to finish everything on your plate. I grew up in a household where there were scenes if I didn't finish a meal, and it's taken me a lifetime to learn that it's ok not to eat everything.

DoraTheScottishExplorer · 17/11/2021 22:55

Good planning, I make all my bad food choices when I'm hungry and don't know what I'm making.

cheapskatemum · 17/11/2021 23:09

Give up sugar in all forms. It causes cravings for more sweet foods. Once it's out of your system, you stop craving it & can eat lots of different healthy savoury foods.

Sidge · 17/11/2021 23:12

Get strong. Build muscle. Move.

It’s so crucial for women, especially as we age.

RacoonRocket · 17/11/2021 23:12

Don't eat past 6pm

Boulshired · 17/11/2021 23:18

If I do exercise first thing in the morning I tend to be good the rest of the day. Not that keen on exercise so the fact I’ve made the effort means I don’t sabotage it.

DirtyDancing · 17/11/2021 23:32

Moderation. A little of what you fancy does you good.. only a little mind
