Would you live in a house where there had been a murder?

Just that really… DP and I looking at buying a second property to rent out. It’s underpriced and chain free… because 18 months ago the husband murdered his wife in one of the bedrooms. It’s put me off a good amount but DP is still keen to go ahead with the sale and says there will be lots of people that won’t want t rent it but it won’t put EVERYONE off. Would it put you off?

My aunt paid 1k for a house in hackney years ago....vendor was hanging from the hallway....now worth over 2m...nobody would touch it when she bought it...
Neighbours near me bought a house....didnt know previous owner was burnt to death by husband in it....until i accidentally told them....oops...i got confused by the house and then realised it was theirs i was talking about...not sure if they have looked it up.

PickupaPenguin8 · 16/11/2021 17:38

The energy of the event stays in the house.

StoneofDestiny · 16/11/2021 17:40

I'd have no problem living in it, but would be wary of problems selling it on.
I've lived in houses 100's of years old and had no idea how many people died there, were killed there or whatever other gruesome event took place there.

Tonyschoco · 16/11/2021 17:47

@PickupaPenguin8

The energy of the event stays in the house.
No it doesn’t.
Kanaloa · 16/11/2021 17:52

@PickupaPenguin8

The energy of the event stays in the house.
But then isn’t that all energy? So you couldn’t buy a house where a lonely old person lived in misery for years with no visitors then died? Or a house where the children were removed due to domestic violence? Or a house where someone died in childbirth years and years ago?
Strangevipers · 16/11/2021 17:56

Plenty of people would rent it BECAUSE of its history

SusieBob · 16/11/2021 17:59

@PickupaPenguin8

The energy of the event stays in the house.
Just murders?

Does the energy of shagging stay in a house too? Does the energy of shagging cancel out murder energy, like, I dunno, an acid and an alkaline, or do they co-exist like oil and water?

LoveFall · 16/11/2021 18:08

I don't think it would bother me, with one proviso.

I would want to make sure there was no sign of the event in the house, and there was new paint, carpeting etc. Simply so it would not have any reminders.

XenoBitch · 16/11/2021 18:15

@PickupaPenguin8

The energy of the event stays in the house.
If that is the case, surely you would be able to detect it without prior knowledge about the murder.
PickupaPenguin8 · 16/11/2021 18:17

Yes of course! It depends on how sensitive you are though. Some people would no doubt not feel anything. Others would be really affected.

Splashinginpuddles15 · 16/11/2021 18:18

No . I really believe that houses have negative or positive energies . I liked the “feel “ of my house during the first viewing . It needs so much work , but it feels happy .We had bought our previous house in a rush and I never felt at home . It had a cold and draining energy .

newfriend05 · 16/11/2021 18:20

Would be a no from me ..

Runnerduck34 · 16/11/2021 18:25

I wouldnt want to live there.
It won't bother everyone but be prepared to reduce the rent in much the same way as the for sale price has been reduced.
It may also be difficult to sell on.

Mochudubh · 16/11/2021 18:28

I've just been reading about the background to the new drama Landscapers about the couple who were killed by their daughter and her husband and buried in the garden. They later forged her parent's signatures to sell the house, still with the bodies in the garden.

When the bodies were discovered the new owner said she was happy to stay there as the old couple had lain there years without doing any harm so there was no reason to think they would now.

JurgensCakeBaby · 16/11/2021 18:29

Our house is over 100 years old so I'm pretty sure some dreadful stuff has taken place here, PILs house was built in the 1600s so lots of people have probably died/been killed/abused there. It's a building.

IncompleteSenten · 16/11/2021 18:33

No.

Debsdonein · 16/11/2021 18:52

@Strangevipers

Plenty of people would rent it BECAUSE of its history
Definitely.
thedancingbear · 16/11/2021 19:24

@PickupaPenguin8

The energy of the event stays in the house.
Poppycock. Evidence please.
lovingmysummer · 16/11/2021 19:37

It would not bother me at all.
I don't believe in ghosts or bad energy so I would honestly not lose any sleep over it or even think about it.
If it's cheap I would snatch it up!

breadrollz · 16/11/2021 19:41

Nope

CambsAlways · 16/11/2021 19:50

I wouldn’t live there if it was free no way

RockNRollMartian · 16/11/2021 20:26

If it wasn't a particularly high-profile, unusually horrific murder, if the murderer was dead/in prison, if the house was redecorated, had a nice atmosphere and wasn't in a bad, high-crime area, I'd consider it, but I'd probably expect to pay less for it, if the murder had happened in the recent past.

I'd be more likely to rent such a house than buy, because then it would be easier to leave, if I found it uncomfortable. There's no logical reason the house shouldn't be a good place to live, but my imagination might get the better of me.

Rattle1 · 16/11/2021 20:29

I’d advertise the tenancy on all the goth/ Wicca/ alternative/ spiritual Facebook pages and make a killing.

It’s a Unique selling point! 😁

WildFlowerBees · 16/11/2021 20:35

It would depend on how the house felt when you go inside. For me the feel of any house I'm in is important regardless of events that may have taken place.

Notimeforaname · 16/11/2021 20:36

Wouldn't bother me at all.
