To be a little bit scared now ( vaginal bleeding)

I'm hoping I may get some good advice from wise ladies on what to do next.

I'm 46, started bleeding heavily on Friday night with a woosh while working late, managed to get home but was in a real mess when I got there.

Really bleeding heavily over Friday night and Saturday with big clots, soaking through lots of PJs, rhythmical strong pains ( thought I was having a miscarriage)

Rang 111 on Sunday spoke to a nurse who said I should go to A&E to be on the safe side- I really don't want to go there I work in my local hospital and know you can wait up to seven hours to be seen at the moment. Ok she said I'll book you into a UTC, shortly afterwards get a call from
them saying they can't help me and I shouldn't go there- if it gets worse go to A&E or call GP in the morning if it stabilises. Do a pregnancy test.

Did a PT and it's negative, tried to call GP this morning but all appointments are full till tomorrow, ( have to call back at 8am) therefore I booked myself a private gynae appointment for tomorrow afternoon so I'll guarantee to see a doctor ( ironic as I work for the NHS)

Today bleeding has slowed but over the last two hours I have a pain in my right side( similar to ovulation but slightly stronger) this wouldn't normally worry me but due to the bleeding I'm started to get worried.

I really don't want to go to A&E bleeding and have to wait 6 hours on a trolley to be seen- can I wait to see the consultant tomorrow?

I really don't get why you didn't just go to a&e on day 1. You might have to wait yes but now it's been days and you're still not any closer to being sorted. Go to a&e. Wear lots of massive maxi pads and bring loads with you and just accept it. Good luck.

greenfairy90 · 15/11/2021 22:03

#totallysuper I didn't have anyone to take me and didn't want to call an ambulance Blush

Call back 111.

PragmaticWench · 15/11/2021 22:07

Could you get a taxi?

Embracelife · 15/11/2021 22:07

You were told and e if it s worse.
If 111 think you need ambulance so be it.
Or order a taxi with loads of pads
How will you get to gynae?

Pumpkinsonparade · 15/11/2021 22:07

Have you recently had a covid jab?
I had an awful period the month after the jab. I would still get checked out tbh.

TotallySuper · 15/11/2021 22:08

Taxis. Drive yourself. Call literally anyone. Failing that call an ambulance.
greenfairy90 · 15/11/2021 22:10

I have had the COVID jab about a month ago yes I did think of that too.

Is this really that much of an emergency?

OP posts:
Knickynackynoo · 15/11/2021 22:13

What @Pumpkinsonparade said A) B) And I cpuld be wrong and there'll be ladies who are living it who can better advise but could it be the start of menopause or that you're peri menopausal I know a few people who at the start had really alarming changes to their cycles month long periods or them going insanely heavy.

TotallySuper · 15/11/2021 22:13

OP in the nicest possible way you're being ridiculous. Clearly the fact you work for the NHS in a hospital is clouding your judgement here. Sort it out.

TotallySuper · 15/11/2021 22:15

I sound grumpy because my friends mum put up with horrendous bleeding for a few months on and off. Then it went away for a bit. Then she started feeling unwell in general and after 1 year went to the doctors- it was cervical cancer. Get seen OP.

Helenahandbasketbing · 15/11/2021 22:17

Please go to hospital. Please. Get a taxi. No one here can help. As the nurse advised, the hospital is where you need to be.

DroopyClematis · 15/11/2021 22:17

Just go to A&E

Jubaju · 15/11/2021 22:21

If there is a chance you could be pregnant then you can’t rule out an miscarriage / ectopic pregnancy even with a negative test.

amoobaa · 15/11/2021 22:22

Yup I agree- better safe than sorry. Go and get checked Flowers

HeyDugeesCakeBadge · 15/11/2021 22:26

Go to A&E now OP.

nonettles · 15/11/2021 22:30

yep, A&E. Surely on a Monday evening you would be very unlucky to have to wait 7 hours. Good luck Flowers

1happyhippie · 15/11/2021 22:32

I hope you have gone @greenfairy90
You really do need checked out.
No one wants to go to a&e, but it’s what it’s there for.
Hopefully won’t be too busy either.

WLAH · 15/11/2021 22:53

Best to get checked out

RainbowBriteUk · 15/11/2021 22:59

Please go to A&E.

I suffer the same. It's horrendous and regular. It can last for months. Mine is down to fibroids, cysts, endometriosis and polycystic ovaries. I think it's the endometriosis that causes most of it though.

If you're losing a lot of blood you really need to be seen incase of anaemia.

I admitted myself a few years back and was kept in a few days so they could do tests. It's really the best place for you.

The only thing that's ever kept the bleeding at bay (but not always) is Norethisterone but the GP has refused to prescribe it any longer saying it's not a long term solution. He's just prescribed the pill which also balances the hormones. I think it's called Cerazette and it's a dream.

RattiesAndPiggies · 15/11/2021 23:04

Hope you’re on the way to the hospital

FortniteBoysMum · 15/11/2021 23:09

Would you recommend a patient I your condition stays at home or gets checked out? That's your answer. Surely you would expect them to get seen as they could be in serious trouble if they don't.

NeverChange · 16/11/2021 00:30

I think it's a case of better to overreact than underreact.

You have unexplained vaginal bleeding and unexplained cramping.

If it was a sibling or friend, you would probably tell them to get it checked out as soon as possible.

BookFiend4Life · 16/11/2021 01:27

I would probably go right away just in in case it's that ovary torsion thing which can be quite serious.

ThinWomansBrain · 16/11/2021 01:30

several years ago I went to A&E with really heavy bleeding.
Saturdat night, central London hospital, huge queues - I was triaged, given a separate room in A&E, and moved to a ward a couple oh hours later.
so 111 told you to go to A&E and three days later you're still at home?
