DD not happy at current school - is an Estyn Outstanding out of catchment. Children are just miserable but the results are obviously great.

Decided DD happiness is worth more than anything so rang our catchment school agreed they had a place in reception. Great! Put the in year transfer request in, accepted the place.

Turn up at new school DD has been put in the reception/nursery class! Asked why this was and was told that the reception class was full!

What’s worse is the reception students in the nursery/reception class are summer born or less able!

My DD is a winter baby and very very forward, is reading and doing KS1 maths already. Is there anything I can do now? I spoke to the head who was adamant the reception class is already full, it was filled in September!

I want to move schools again asap AIBU?? or do I see how it goes and have faith that her class teacher will differentiate effectively?

Is this a wind up?

LivingInTheTrumanShow · 15/11/2021 20:15

It’s really not. It’s bad isn’t it?

Your poor child! She is 4 and soon to be on her 3rd school!! She will be fine in that class, let her settle, make friends and enjoy it.

FrenchToasty · 15/11/2021 20:17

You're complaining that your Reception child has been put in a Reception class?

De88 · 15/11/2021 20:17

Chill. She'll be fine!

herestoyoucolinrobinson · 15/11/2021 20:17

It is bad but not the way you’re thinking.

Etonmessisyum · 15/11/2021 20:17

Same as a composite class my kids have been in a few and done fine.
she’s only got until July then year one, and it’s reception not 6th form I’m sure she’ll be fine if she’s happy and enjoying it, give it a chance. You’re more likely to cause her to be unsettled if you move her again.

LefttoherownDevizes · 15/11/2021 20:18

Did you not ask about what class she'd be in when you went for the tour before accepting?

How often to they mix the classes up (ie is she destined to be in that class ask the way through?)

Wormsarecool · 15/11/2021 20:19

Could you find out what their plans are for next sept. If it’s likely that they’ll shuffle them all in year one I’d keep her where she is.

Saz12 · 15/11/2021 20:20

The class for her age is full. So you have a place in the composite class of children 6 months-ish younger. I don’t see the problem?
In a composite class the teacher will differentiate anyway.

Tittyfilarious81 · 15/11/2021 20:21

Just so I have this correct it's a nursery / reception class so the youngest reception are with nursery ? . At 4 I wouldn't worry about this too much the teacher will give her appropriate work for her ability . What happenes when she goes into year 1 will the reception children be merged into 1 class ?

VerbenaGirl · 15/11/2021 20:21

Did you visit the new school?

shouldistop · 15/11/2021 20:22

She's only 4!

Howshouldibehave · 15/11/2021 20:22

This.

Do you have a habit of making really big decisions on a whim?!

OddsNSodsBitsNBobs · 15/11/2021 20:25

Sorry OP your post really isnt clear....

Fernando072020 · 15/11/2021 20:26

Wow...

2020isnotbehaving · 15/11/2021 20:26

It shouldn’t matter at all the 4y old in reception/nursery will be expected reach same targets as those in all reception class.

Plus if you have a birthday aug 31st you count as a reception child but the nursery child could be 1 day younger but you are outraged. It means nothing!

Hoppinggreen · 15/11/2021 20:27

First child?

What happens in year 1? If they are mixed I wouldn't worry at all. I assume there are not two year 1 classes sorted by age?

Bunce1 · 15/11/2021 20:30

I don’t understand your post.

You have a rising 5 year old?

The school had a YRclass which is full and then a nursery/yr split class?

Can you answer that?

Nature20 · 15/11/2021 20:30

She hadn’t even been in her old reception class 2 terms yet?? What made you so convinced to change so early on??

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 15/11/2021 20:30

You come across as a bit of twit tbh.

Just leave her be.

ScatteredMama82 · 15/11/2021 20:31

My kids primary had composite classes. They are both at the older end of their years. They are doing great. DS1 is now yr 7 and in top set maths and English. Composite class with younger ones did him no harm.

DeepaBeesKit · 15/11/2021 20:31

Bloody hell you gave her all of 9 weeks in the first school before deciding she wasnt happy, you've given the second school even less time

If you're gonna be this picky about your pfb you better start saving for private
