I like to think im ahead of the game in terms of being on top of stuff
We never run out of anything
We have a good stock of things like batteries/ light bulbs/sellotape etc
I make sure we have everything we need eg I use an online clothes shopping service. I have parcel tape/bags/labels to return things
Online weekly food shops are booked several weeks in advance and bags stored in the car boot for click and collect
All my cupboards etc are organised
There is no clutter/junk pile
I regularly go through clothes and charity/ book items no longer needed/used
The loft contents are in storage boxes, labelled.
I have a supply of recyclable carrier bags for bagging and disposing the chicken carcass from Sunday dinner
If we don't need/use it then I get rid of it

I've not always been like this. Our last house was full of crap. When we moved I took the opportunity to sort the whole lot and I was ruthless !

Life is a lot easier when things are organised and put away. I get irked when I'm asked where something is by my DH who dumps things wherever. I'd rather not waste time searching for things - everything in its place is a time saver.

FindingMeno · 14/11/2021 20:35

Reasonably so.
I find it incredibly stressful otherwise.

ThinWomansBrain · 14/11/2021 20:41

🏅🏅🏅 well done?

Tulips15 · 14/11/2021 20:42

Pretty organised.
We do have 2 areas that get cluttered easily though- drives me nuts! But one of those areas is my fault!!
I generally feel disorganised though, I always feel I can organise my time and cleaning house (Its quite clean but Im cleaning atleast 2hrs a day) better .
I just bought' The organised Mum method '
book & I feel I can go straight into the cleaning daily as its not hugely cluttered here, so thats positive!

TrudyRuby · 14/11/2021 20:45

Same as you OP - I took the opportunity to be ruthless when I moved last year.

A house is tidier with less clutter. A five minute clear our job here and there adds up and eventually everything is organised.

I want the next time I move to be an easy pack up and not dread it.

spondoolikay · 14/11/2021 20:48

Yes my house sounds exactly like yours op. DH is much less organised than me but broadly fits in with the system. I get stressed by mess, disorder and cannot bear things like running out of milk.

Nonicknamesforcatapillars · 14/11/2021 20:50

I crash through life by the seat of my pants. I’m not very organised, often run out of stuff, have loads of crap shoved in drawers etc. It suits me just fine.

I work full time as does DH, I’m also doing a degree. I have teenagers who have busy schedules. Life’s too short to worry about a bit of clutter Anne occasionally having to use kitchen roll when you’ve run out of loo paper. Each to their own.

Peanutmnm · 14/11/2021 20:50

Mine too! You'd be hard pushed to find it messy if you called in randomly.

freshcarnation · 14/11/2021 20:51

Yes I'm the same. We cleared out PIL house this year as they had died and threw away so much stuff. It spurred me on to get organised.

DoAsYouWouldBeMumBy · 14/11/2021 20:55

Why do you need a bag for a chicken carcass? Do you not use it to make stock and then put the remains in the food waste bin? Apols if your local area doesn't do food waste collection, just wondering why?

Anyway, apart from that, I'd say we are fairly organised in a similar way to you, and yes it feels good, partly cos I used to be a bit skew-whiff GrinGrin

Youdoyoutoday · 14/11/2021 20:56

Pretty much. I do sometimes run out of things but not often.
I do regularly declutter as my house is really small and with 2 adults and 2 kids, I find the amount of stuff we have overwhelming sometimes.

Grapewrath · 14/11/2021 20:58

Not remotely but the shit that needs to get done, gets done. I can’t imagine booking food shops weeks in advance. We’re all W it free spirited and messy here I’m afraid

RedPandaMama · 14/11/2021 20:59

As organised as we can get it, as in I'm very brutal to throw stuff out and we don't hoard anything etc, however we have no storage and very soon to be four of us in a 2 up 2 down terrace means it's always a bit chaotic. My four year old is a whirlwind and me and DP both WFH full time but with no study space (him at the dining table, me on the sofa) so the house is a bit manic with stuff everywhere.

Hoping to move to a 3 bed with a garage and loft, that's the dream!

Djifunrsn · 14/11/2021 20:59

Well I try but there are too many people/animals and too much stuff!

Jumbojem · 14/11/2021 21:02

Not sure what I'm supposed to say YABU/YANBU about, sounds like you just want to say well done to yourself (fair enough, you've clearly worked hard at this).
I'm neither organised nor disorganised, some things are in a better place than others and there's room for improvement, but I'm not obsessive about it. I know very organised people who get stressed and anxious if things don't go as planned. So I don't think either extreme is particularly healthy.
But, I want to ask, what's the point of a recyclable bag for a chicken carcass though? You aren't going to recycle it with a chicken carcass in!

EileenGC · 14/11/2021 21:05

I’m adopting a ‘replace as soon as opened’ motto, so there’s always a back up for everything.

I open a new roll of tape? I add one to the shopping list. And so on.

I like not running low on stuff, but it’s also something that has only been possible since I started earning a little better. When I was skint I couldn’t replace things when they broke/were finished, let alone have a back up in the house.

hiredandsqueak · 14/11/2021 21:10

Yes there's a place for everything and everything is in its place. I'm ruthless though and nothing comes in without me taking something out. I like that it makes life so much easier which is all i need to ensure it stays this way.

Crumblinginside · 14/11/2021 21:11

I'm not that organised that I have a backup for everything but I live minutes from decent supermarkets and I like traipsing around the shops late at night Grin

But I'm pretty organised. There's nothing out on show.
The house looks nice but I'm not going to lie.. there are a few drawers of clutter no matter how many times I do them.

I have the kids clothes passed on as soon as they outgrow them. Sorting toys this week.
I've a level maker and things relatively tidy.

Crumblinginside · 14/11/2021 21:12

Label maker

Passthecake30 · 14/11/2021 21:14

I have a back up for everything (tins, toiletries, painkillers, etc) as it’s easier to stick it on the online shop when the last one is open. I definitely have clutter points though. I try to get rid of dcs outgrown clothes though.

Tumtitumtum · 14/11/2021 21:14

I’d be interested to know if the ones saying they are that ultra organised have a busy job? How many DC and single or useful DH?

If I lived alone, or was a SAHM, or had a semi useful partner I’d be like that, but I simply don’t have the time and it drives me insane as we live in semi-chaos which makes everything worse.

Bathcubesfromthe80s · 15/11/2021 07:29

@TrudyRuby totally get you re the raay pack up. In the last house I was clearing the loft for weeks. When we moved house we were in temporary housing while inbetween buying our new house. All our belongings were in storage and its amazing what you don't need our miss

PegasusReturns · 15/11/2021 07:37

@Tumtitumtum. I work FT in a busy job that at least pre covid involved a lot of travel. I’m an NED and trustee and I volunteer in both an advocacy and sports role. I have 4 DC (1 doing A levels, one doing GCSEs, 2 younger who need a lot of driving around and three of who compete in county level sports). So I’d say I’m at the busier end of the spectrum.

The the only thing that keeps me sane is being ultra organised.

I have lists and schedules for everything; everything has a place and is in its place. I am committed to the principle of “never leave a room empty handed” and finding that 5 mins of organising morning and evening pays dividends overall.

TildaRae · 15/11/2021 07:50

No. I’ve recently started working full time as my 4 year old recently started school. I tend to just muddle through the days at the moment. It gets me down a bit I must say, it always feels like I’m only just about keeping my head above water! I’ve started doing the organised mum method and that does seem to be helping…
