I like to think im ahead of the game in terms of being on top of stuff
We never run out of anything
We have a good stock of things like batteries/ light bulbs/sellotape etc
I make sure we have everything we need eg I use an online clothes shopping service. I have parcel tape/bags/labels to return things
Online weekly food shops are booked several weeks in advance and bags stored in the car boot for click and collect
All my cupboards etc are organised
There is no clutter/junk pile
I regularly go through clothes and charity/ book items no longer needed/used
The loft contents are in storage boxes, labelled.
I have a supply of recyclable carrier bags for bagging and disposing the chicken carcass from Sunday dinner
If we don't need/use it then I get rid of it

I've not always been like this. Our last house was full of crap. When we moved I took the opportunity to sort the whole lot and I was ruthless !

I hate disorganised houses and people. I work with one (30 yr old) and the amount of time she forgets her work swipe card, loses her bank card, loses her phone charger, forgets to call a customer back, an endless list. Often says “no breakfast today, didn’t have milk”. How difficult is it to make a list?

It gets to the point where the other work colleagues roll their eyes at the stuff she cant do. Its beyond ridiculous.

Moonface123 · 17/11/2021 06:57

Some days yes, some days no.
It can end up becoming another pressure/ expectation.

@leafygarden42

Plus - I don't have an 'ironing basket' - thank God.
Where do you put your dry clothes after the laundry? Pre-ironing?

My house is clean and tidy and smells lovely, it’s just not organised!

I'm this person. I do have ADHD though, so the disorganisation is a feature rather than a bug. And in answer to 'how difficult is it to make a list'... you'd be surprised!

I wish I had an organised house or brain. It frustrates me no end that I can't maintain the systems I put in place - every now and then I'll have a huge clear-out and organise and for a week or two, I think "Yes, I've got this under control"... and then six weeks later I'm looking for my work pass and I find it in the wash basket and we go around again, wondering if other people ever drive 100 miles to a meeting 24 hours early Blush

Well.. this thread has inspired me to tackle some of the chaos. I have thirty make up bags and dozens of pairs of summer shores, most of which I haven’t worn in years. Loads and loads of hotel bottles of shampoo etc. It’s embarrassing. I have loads of bottles of sunscreen too.

How can it be tidy if not organised?

Or does it just look organised ie neat stack of papers but actually all mixed up and no idea what’s on it kind of thing?

HarrisMcCoo · 17/11/2021 12:44

Agree with another poster...I have been inspired by this thread and tackling one cupboard/drawer at a time. It's now turned into an addiction though🤦🏻

HarrisMcCoo · 17/11/2021 12:53

Threw out a huge pile of paperwork yesterday. Hideous amount. It's been gathering for years. All stuff that did not need to be in my home. I have much more space now to store items that didn't have a home before.

You need a plan now for future paperwork.

Highly recommend a scanner

I would love to live in an organised home but I can't do it right now. I'm in a catch 22 as my MH is not great and can't sort the house out. But the disorganised house exacerbate the MH issues.

Well we don’t tend to have much ‘stuff’ for a start, so it is never particularly cluttered. It’s not organised in the sense that I don’t have systems for anything like people on this thread do. I don’t have spare sellotape for when one runs out, I don’t have a nearly stacked cupboard of spare lightbulbs, I don’t have a proper filing system for paperwork, I don’t rotate summer and winter clothes. I can’t always put my hands on the right kind of battery needed for a toy etc etc like people have mentioned. I don’t have shit lying around though. Open a cupboard and it might be full of unorganised miscellaneous crap, but my house appears tidy.

This is most of my problem.

I also have the issue of wanting to do the right thing by donating/recycling/etc but it takes so much effort (with my mh as it is) that it doesn't get done. I wish I could just dump the lot of it but the guilt would be too much.

ursuslemonade · 17/11/2021 14:58

I also save clothes from my kids to give to my nieces....but we meet once or twice a year. They really appreciate it as the stuff I give them are in near perfect condition. Obviously this is not the reason my house is messy. It's just so overwhelming.

Mynameisthecatwhogotthecream · 17/11/2021 15:01

A lot better than it used to be, particularly as dd1 is now at uni, that girl create more mess than the 3 of us put togetherGrin

HarrisMcCoo · 17/11/2021 17:41

Oftenithinkaboutit I know, going to now keep it tidy after all the hours I have put in. The big filing cabinet needs reorganised too, but it will wait until next week. Got even more thrown out in the bin today in my bedroom. It's amazing how much useless stuff gathers in drawers!!

DeepaBeesKit · 17/11/2021 22:31

We have a white board where the meal planner is written up.

We shop weekly but are also well stocked with store cupboard stuff (pasta, rice, beans, tinned tomatoes, tuna, herbs & spices, flours, meat etc in freezer etc), so I could knock up meals for a few days without stress.

GTAlogic · 17/11/2021 22:48

I'd like to say yes but no, our house is not organised.

Mynameisthecatwhogotthecream · 17/11/2021 22:51

Well inspired by this I went through the kitchen cupboards today, didn't find too much out of date but 4 boxes of taco kits, about 4 tubs of yeast(I bake bread about once a year) and several boxes of fast action yeast
